Will The Real #LongestDriverInGolf Please Stand Up
Let’s face it…lots of golf companies make claims that they have the #LongestDriverInGolf. The major brands use terms like #17YardsLonger and golfers line up in droves to be the first guy on their block to own one. But when you think about it the company that has more right to market being the real longest driver in golf is KRANK. Year in and year out their drivers produce the longest drives and are the real winner of this claim. That’s because the Professional Long Drive guys who hit the longest drives every single year almost always win with a KRANK driver. In fact they have won the last 3 years in a row.
Using this current year as an example, KRANK Golf in the RE/MAX World Long Drive Events put up the following stats: If this would have been done by a large name brand you can bet your sweet cheeks you would be hearing about it in their marketing story for 2013. Maybe with a twitter hashtag something like #ThisBigThing.
:: Quarterfinals – out of 32 Golfers, 16 used a KRANK.
:: Semifinals – out of the 8 golfers, 3 used a KRANK.
:: Finals – KRANK finished 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place.
VERY IMPRESSIVE…BUT…I’m sure many of you are saying something like this to yourselves right now, “yeah but KRANK drivers are only made for guys with have huge biceps and swing the club 150 mph. Their drivers will never work for me”. You couldn’t be more wrong. But, unfortunately for KRANK perception is often thought to be reality…and perception is just about everything in this industry. Kind of like a Liam Neeson movie. If you’ve seen one… you’ve seen them all. He’s kinda a one trick pony.
But KRANK Golf is trying to change all that. Krank Golf has been known for one thing in the past: LONG DRIVE EVENTS. Which is great if that’s where you want to be, but if you want to appeal to the general golfing public, perception can be a hard thing to shake. In 2013 KRANK is on a mission to crossover into the mainstream and prove that their clubs are made for you too.
Why People Haven’t Tried KRANK Golf – (Consumer Feedback)
KRANK Golf has been around for a good while now and they have an impressive cult like following around the world. But they have not yet bridged the gap between hard core follower and the mainstream. So I went out and asked our readers, golfers, store owners and industry insiders why they think all golfers aren’t trying KRANK clubs. Here’s a few of their thoughts:
:: They’re a Long Drive company, not a golf company.
:: What wins on Sunday, sells on Monday.
:: I thought they were just a component company.
:: Radical designs, crazy colors on their clubs.
:: Nowhere for me to try their clubs.
Why More Golfers Should Try Krank Golf
MyGolfSpy is a brand agnostic, we don’t care what the name is on the bottom of a golf club or golf gadget. We only care about one thing: PERFORMANCE. And at the end of the day that’s all that should matter. Over the years we have shown you guys/gals that there are some incredible products that most of you have never heard of before. Which is one of the things I love to do. I want to level the playing field as much as possible, so no matter what your club is called, if your product performs we are going to shine light on it for all golfers to see. That being said, here is me playing devil’s advocate in regards to the consumer feedback responses listed above:
:: It shouldn’t matter that they have focused on the Long Drive market. If the ball goes long and straight with their drivers that’s all that matters. And many of their followers will tell you exactly that, over the years being in this industry I have read literally thousands of testimonials about golfers who love their clubs.
:: The whole “well this pro plays this club, so it must be good” mentality is nothing more then brandwashing. Just because a product does not have the budget to compete on Sundays doesn’t mean their clubs shouldn’t sell on not just Monday’s but the rest of the days in the week as well.
:: There are plenty of great component golf clubs out there. And just so you are aware, every brand and every club made is made up the same way…with components (head, shaft, grip). So, don’t buy into the whole components can’t compete with name brands in golf. They can, have and will compete performance wise with the big names.
:: Regarding their radical designs and crazy colors. In the past companies like Krank were known for having some attitude when it came to the looks of their designs. It was one way smaller companies used to help themselves stand out from the crowd. Years ago radical designs and colors were not the norm, but now every company is looking for store shelf eye candy and to be honest KRANK was actually ahead of the times when it came to the colors and radical designs.
:: Nowhere to try their clubs. Now this is a valid point. Nowadays golfers want to hit clubs before they buy them more than ever. But KRANK is working on doing just that this year. They are going to be in a lot more stores than ever before. Another way they are dealing with this is they offer a free replacement for an entire year and I promise you, they stand behind that. So, if you have ever thought about giving one a try, there is little reason not to give them a shot to see if they can knock that name brand driver out of your bag. And you might just be surprised. I think many of you will.
Time To Level The Playing Field
Like I always say, “times are a changin”. And there is no better time than the present for a company like this to make a name for themselves on a more grand scale. With social media, twitter, facebook and sites like MyGolfSpy, the playing field has been leveled to a certain degree for companies like this to play with the big boys. And I think KRANK deserves that chance more than most. Their clubs perform well for the tens of thousands of followers and golfers who play them, they have a fanatical group dedicated to customer service, they stand behind their products and for those guys that listen to all those marketing claims being made by the big brand names. Like I said KRANK has the rights to that claim. For the past 3 years in a row this is the #LongestDriverInGolf in the marketing world.
