Just bought the Adams speedline xtd ls 3 wood and have used it for 2 rounds and it goes as far as my Driver! It has driver length with 3 wood forgiveness – what a combo. My point is the fact that Adams have now been able to release a dual slot Driver in the XTD, well I think it has the ingredients to be the longest legal Driver on this planet. Can’t wait for the results and can’t wait to bag one. Love Adams woods!

Cally will be near the top. Hope Wilson’s M3 hits as well as it looks. Best looking driver from them…The Bio Cell looks great again, hope they put a worthy shaft in it this time. Was 20 yards shorter than everything else last year. Everything I read pointed to the shaft, not the head.

The winner won’t be the BioCell+…
      It can’t.
My order just came in on 1-16-14.
I pre-ordered the BioCell+ for the RedTie in purl paint and the 440cc head.
I’m really happy with the shaft.
It’s a Matrix with a slick paint job – awesome!!!
I have a full set of AMP Cell woods and hybrids in the red so, I took the BIO Cell+ In the red to match.
      I gotta tell you …
In person, this club looks like a girls lipstick that fell out of a clown costume on Halloween.
I like color! Color is fun and looks cool (sometimes)
      This club, yikes!! For real.
The BioCell+ feels solid and it’s straight as an arrow.
But!!! It’s SHORT – it is.
20/30 yards shorter than my EncoreZL.
This is all to say, I can’t wait to see the official results will be.
Will they feel the same as me?
It’s an Ugly club that feels good, hits straight and drops short.

I believe the Tour Edge Exotics XCG7 driver will surprise and place high on this list. It’s a great looking club, VERY low-spinning head, and quality shaft options. If testers “loft up” enough, it can be as long as any other driver on the list.

The Big Bertha Alpha really seems very similar to the SLDR in terms of adjustability and CG. The MOI on these new drivers is lower and you can tell they feel dull when you hit the ball. My smash factor went from 1.49 consistently with my TM R7 to 1.45 consistently with SLDR and I really didnt like it.
I have tried over 30 new drivers since I bought my R7, I went to cool clubs and they couldnt put together a better combo, and I tried a local fitting at ADS golf and they struggled to get me a better fitting club as well. Nothing can touch my R7 far as consistency and length overall. The Razr fit extreme with AD DI-6s shaft was actually about 10 yds further for me but not as straight.
That being said the new Big Bertha has similar adjustability to the R7 as far as how you can position the weight on the head. I really hope with a new head design I like and same adjustability the Big Bertha will solve my 5 year quest for a new driver.

I think you are confusing the two Big Bertha drivers. The regular BB is a lot like the SLDR, most notably with the rail on the back. The BB Alpha, is quite different, and intriguing to me, because the “gravity core” allows you to adjust spin and launch independently.

      Reply

      logan

No, the priciples behind the Alpha and SLDR are similar they are direct competitors. That is why the SLDR moved the weight under the driver. They can still adjust the weight from fade to draw but it was moved under the driver to brings the center of gravity down and kill the spin rates a bit. This also lowers the MOI. This is how SLDR is acheiving the same effect as the gravity core from callaway. When you move the tungsten weight from the gravity core to the bottom of the head it is in the exact same place as the SLDR’s weight in neutral. This is way different then the BB track along the back. The BB has perimiter weighting on the outside to increase MOI and forgiveness of mishits and more adjustability for draw and fade to help people mask swing flaws better.

SLDR/Alpha= lower spin allowing for higher launch and a little draw/fade biasing
BB= Lots of draw/fade bias, higher MOI for more forgiveness on mishits. no spin reduction from weights.

I would love to see Ping g25 win this this and prove that relvant improvement takes more than one year.

Question; how will you treat the Alphas weight distribution change? Will each golfer be “fitted” to one setting through trials, or through theory about what they should have, or do they hit both and then you count the best score?

I guess the same question can be asked about all the other parameters as well, but since draw/fade bias through weights and adjustable hosels have been around for a while I would asume that you testers generally knows what works best for them.

We make every reasonable effort to provide the best fit for each tester from the equipment provided by each company. In the case of Big Bertha Alpha that means we fit for flex, face angle and loft, and yes…the gravity core.

To a degree we’re fortunate in that our testers fall into pretty clear groups; guys who generally need more spin, and guys who almost always need less. So for the most part, gravity core placement for each tester has been fairly cut and dry.

The winner is likely to come from the same, one size almost fits all candidates, so the top 3 is probably going to be the X 2 Hot, Jetspeed and the Bio Cell. The others will be split, low spinning models for high swing speed players (SLDR) and the high launch, high spin models for low swing speed players (Adams, Mizuno).
Regardless of which driver is crowned the winner, with lots of data, it is going to be a very good read.

The SLDR will be dead and replaced in March / April this year. It was released early because of Callaway and it sliding weight in the Big Bertha. Having spoken to multiple professionals who have hit the Big Bertha, I would be surprised if anything comes close to it this season.

SLDR by Taylormade is a 2013 club that wrapped around to this season. The fact that it’s getting so many votes in this anyway is just a testament to how good of a club it truly is.

We originally considered treating BiO Cell and BiO Cell+ as one entry, but the reality is that the + really isn’t a pro model of the other. It’s an entirely different driver, with different materials (BiO Cell is all titnium, + is not. Basically it’s more the difference between Big Bertha and Big Bertha Alpha, than say XCG7 and XCG7 Beta.

Thanks for the advice. Funny thing is i used to own a G20 and i did a totally dumb a$$ move and dented the crown. No its not what you think i didn’t tee the ball too high and made my driver into a pitching wedge. haha. I walk all my courses and i didn’t leave enough space between me and my bag when i hit an iron and totally dented my crown on my backswing. I did love the G20 it was probably the straightest driver i ever hit and kind of a dull muted sound. The dent was so ugly i got rid of it and got the RBZ1 which was longer but i had to adjust it so low because of the ball flight height, it opened up the face and i sliced more often than ever. Then came the R1 and after getting fitted my ball flight was so high they tuned it to 8 degrees with a 3 degree closed face to get back to neutral and i got perfect ball flight and the longest i have ever been. I got 105mph clubhead speed with it and straight as hell. Im the only person i know that ever fitted into a 8 degree loft. But i agree with you, its hard to go wrong with Ping anything. TM and Ping are my choices except for wedges i play Titleist Vokeys SM4 which are fantastic better than my Cleveland’s I used to have.
