A really close leader board, Jason Day having vertigo issues, but still playing fantastic, Louis O. on fire, Dustin and Jordan battling. Who knows who’ll win? Should be a great day.

I have criticized the USGA in the past for their ads about growing the game, pace of play etc. Then when the tournament is on we hear of crazy stimpmeter readings. I am pleased that I haven’t heard any mention of stimpmeter readings. Of course, maybe its because the readings change from green-to-green.

Gotta love the Gary Player interview with regards to his assessment of Chambers Bay golf course.
If you haven’t seen this on the Golf Channel, it’s rather interesting.

It’s crazy to see seemingly good putts roll right off the green and into a bunker.
There are some tight pin placements today, really close to the edges.
I find myself sort of rooting for Dustin Johnson. I recall the Whistling Straits PGA Championship when he basically lost it because he grounded his club in the wrong area.
Maybe he’ll get some redemption here this weekend.

the players should just think of the 18th hole as a par 5 regardless of what par is. visualization is key to playing successful golf they should be able to put par out of their minds, make a 4 on the hole and move on.The usga is always turning par 5’s into par4’s for big events. Most U S Open courses are played at par 70 when they are par 71 or 72 all other times

pulling for Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson picked Dustin Johnson to win before tourney started. He should have won at Whistling Straits another funky course

Hope Jason Day is okay to continue.
Seeing him go down with vertigo on his final hole was tough.
Glad that he was able to finish the hole.
I had vertigo once, and it lasted about three weeks.
I hope Day’s vertigo is a much shorter term issue, so that he can continue to pursue the dream this weekend.

Some of my buddies got to play the course back in 2010 when we were working at Bandon and said the course was a goat track. Looks better than they said but the announcers make the greens sound bumpier than my home course the day after aeration.

It’s rough to see putts going to the hole and then the ball jumping around because they’re not as smooth as other courses. Putting is definitely been interesting.

I like the filter effect that shows the undulations of the greens so much better. Those greens punish any timid putts, ya gotta be willing to make a 10′ comebacker.

The FOX camera work is great, but the commentary isn’t as good, but they will get better, I hope.

Usually the networks let up on covering golfers struggling at +10 but because its Tiger we have to see every single gouge. Yeah, I get it, the ratings. But if you aren’t going to watch the US Open because Tiger isn’t always on the screen then just go away. The other golfers who are playing well deserve better, and so do we.

It was really tough to watch Tiger, Louis and Rickie today. Especially when others were not doing so bad. I have to wonder if Tiger had not been in that group how Louis and Rickie would have done? Tiger starts out +4 on the first six while Louis and Rickie didn’t lose a shot until 6… after having to watch Tiger hack it up… It HAD to have an effect on them. It wasn’t a scramble or a team match so sure they didn’t have to play any of Tiger’s shanks but still, we’ve all played with someone who’s terrible that day and it does have an effect on you.

Tiger had to know he was going to stink it up after his last competitive round, Butch Harmon even predicted this… So was it fair of Tiger to impose himself on these guys? Shouldn’t he have just stayed home? I like Tiger, I want to see him get back in form, but if he keeps it up there’s going to be too much scar tissue to heal. Hope we don’t have another David Duval on our hands here.

      Some great prizes shown.
I didn’t get to see the US Open coverage until Friday night, so I already knew the results as far as who was at top of leaderboard.
I got a kick out of Tiger Woods’ comment that “At least I kicked Ricky Fowler’s butt”, which he said jokingly, tongue firmly planted in cheek, as Tiger shot an 80 while Fowler shot an 81.
They’ll probably both get a kick out of that someday, but not right now, as neither is likely to make the cut.
I was surprised to see how brown the greens were. Sergio Garcia commented on it, and I wonder how many other players feel the same way about them not being up to snuff.
Enjoyed seeing Justin Rose first hit an awful shanked bunker shot, but then hit a tremendous “fried egg” recovery shot from a totally different bunker. Those guys are good.

Can’t get used to strange announcers. They can’t say “nice shot” until it stops bouncing, rolling and caroming. Sometimes they move on before we even know if it’s good or terrible.
I’m guessing won’t be seeing Chambers Bay again.
