I don’t really care what brand or model they are, if they feel good and perform consistently in my hands. (Which is becoming more rare as I age) I have owned most of the popular brands and few of the less well known ones too. I play around 250 rounds a year at mostly local courses within 25~35 miles of my home. (As you may have guessed, I am retired) I am old and beat up, so my handicap fluctuates between 4 ~ 7 at my Men’s Association games. I start looking for new irons when the old ones have lost the edges on the grooves, and the balls don’t spin anymore as they should. Yes, I do clean my clubs after every shot before they go back into the bags. Yes, you can wear out your irons and even your “woods”. I am hardest on the wedges, as they see lots of sands and turf shots around the green. I go through two sets of wedges a year, and replace my irons about every 18 months or so. I keep my woods for 2~3 years, as the real changes I perceive in performance are not as huge as most advertising would indicate, and they seem to last longer than irons. I give my old clubs to my son or a local junior golf program if he doesn’t want them. I try the new irons my friends purchase, on the golf course when we play. I go to local golf equipment shows and try new equipment on the range. I try to give all of the better performing brands a try to see which suites my needs best. I then buy the clubs I liked the most, irrespective of brand or advertising. This about the same process I go through when I buy a car. In the same respect, I buy what I like that performs to my standards within my limited ability.

Don’t know why my comment didn’t get past the moderator, so I’ll try again:

I’m in no way affiliated with TaylorMade – I’m just curious why there is so much hate towards TM… I mean, quite a few pros play a TM driver, so they must be doing something right, no?

I’m a cobra guy myself, so like I said – just curious

Yes a lot of pros play TM drivers, even those with equipment contracts w/other companies. But that’s because a lot of those contracts allow for that, say a contract that only requires a player to carry 12 clubs so they can play the putter and driver they want (or get paid to play). Nike wants total adoption in their bags for example. I would be interested to know the value of TM’s tee up money (i.e. driver payola) every week.

I am a low hdcp and hit all the irons that came out last year. I ended up getting Callaway XR pro’s. When I hit the RSI irons (both the 1 and 2’s) I didn’t like the feeling of the ball off the face. Yes I know, the XR pro’s are a cavity back and blade players may not like the feel, but I wonder is the duel face slots take all feel away? I won’t argue the technology probably works, but Not for me.
I think these look really similar to Cobra irons.

MEETING THE DEMANDS OF THE BETTER PLAYER

      SUPERIOR FEEL
We took an innovative approach to providing the better player with superior feel. Our new Dynamic Feel System
consists of a multi-material badge that reduces vibration across the face. Combined with re-designed head
geometries, tungsten weighting in the long irons, and forged short irons, PSi offers a truly dynamic take on
delivering superior sound and feel throughout the set.

THE LOOK PREFERRED BY BETTER PLAYERS
In PSi irons, we combined beauty with purpose. Classic lines and carefully-considered shaping give PSi irons
the clean and precise look preferred by better players, while also employing a progressive spec package that
ensures each iron performs optimally for its specific role. Blade length, topline thickness, and offset increase
gradually from the wedges to the long irons, inspiring confidence at address no matter the shot.

      CONSISTENT DISTANCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Our new cut-thru sole slot and thin, sub-2mm face add impressive ball speed to an iron with such a compact shape,
while protecting ball speed on shots struck low on the face. Face Slot Technology is another mechanism
to achieve consistent distance, preserving ball speed on heel and toe mis-hits. The new 360° undercut lowers
the center of gravity to generate the optimal combination of trajectory and distance desired by better players.

      PSi – KEY TECHNOLOGIES

      • New Cut-Thru Speed Pocket
Provides more distance and consistency, especially for shots struck low on the face.
      • Face Slots
For improved distance on heel and toe shots, with increased consistency on all shots across the face.
      • Multi-Material Damping System with HYBRAR material, plus tungsten weights in long irons and forged short irons.
Gives golfers long irons that optimize ball flight and distance gaps; short irons that deliver the ultimate feel and control.
      • Carefully considered shaping
Clean and precise look preferred by better players that inspires confidence at address.
      • Inverted Cone Technology
To expand the COR zone, resulting in more ball speed and distance on off-center hits.
      • Progressive Spec Package
Blade lengths, toplines, and offsets that gradually progress from 3 – PW which are designed to optimize performance for each clubs specific role.
      • Sub-2.0mm ultra-thin face
Higher COR from a smaller head size and shape provides surprisingly long distance from a compact shape.
      • 360* Undercut
Lowers CG location for optimal trajectory from all irons throughout the set.

“PSi has everything better players demand from an iron, and so much more. Whether you want superior sound and feel or increased ball speed and distance, you no longer have to compromise.”

Worst part about Taylormade irons is it’s to the point that I don’t even know what models fall into what categories. There is zero consistency in their naming convention so every release you have to look up what is the players, game improvement, or super game improvement lines.

Thats because they don’t want you to know the difference. Sort of like buying a mattress. But Callaway is no better as I am looking for new irons and they have just as many mattresses to confuse you …..and make apples to apples impossible.

I have to believe all the negative comments are from people who just bought new irons this year.
