Leading the Charge
Here’s a fun little fact: Prior to 2008, not a single PGA tour player had belts/buckles as part of an apparel contract. Now over 50% do. Coincidence? No way. In fact, what happened was apparel companies realized how many viewers actually paid attention to what players used to hold up their pants and didn’t want this space going underutilized.
It’s been nine years since Trevor Derrheim started and set out to create the most unique and distinctive belt buckle on the market. Here are some pictures of a hybrid belt Trevor sent me. It features a black gloss alligator tip on cognac calf with black stitching. Trevor didn’t ask me, but if he did, I’d call this model the “Black and Tan.”
Trevor never intended for the company to maximize profits by employing a high-volume, low-margin operation. On the contrary, it’s always been more important to hold true to their distinctive styling and pick up consumers along the way. Call it their own interpretation of Laissez Faire economics.
