Adams Golf – What Comes To Mind?

What do you think of when the name Adams Golf comes to mind?

Most golfers would say either Tight Lies or Hybrids.  Well if you’re a regular reader of MyGolfSpy those thoughts have probably changed over the past couple years.  That’s because we have probably shown more concepts, prototypes and new releases from Adams Golf then any other brand.  And almost every one of these spy pics we show of their new drivers and irons seem to be very well received.  And today I don’t think will be much different.  Long gone are the days of upside down fairway wood designs…today Adams seems to be more focused on putting out product that not only looks good but plays great as well.  In 2010 their 9064LS was the “Overall #1 Driver” we tested.  Not too bad coming from a company previously known for making hybrids.

Adams (Blade-On-Blade Design)

Now many of you might be thinking…man….it seems like I have seen a design similar to this before.  And you would be right…what you are probably thinking of is the Hogan Apex Blades.  We actually covered that iron last year in an article written by the man who had a part in designing the 1999 Hogan Apex Blades, Jeff Sheets.  There are quite a few differences in the two designs but one of the common themes is what Jeff called the Blade-On-Blade design (view image).

Blade-On-Blade Design:

“Another Hogan design attribute is the blade-on-blade geometry. I honestly don’t know if this was Hogan’s name for the design but it became an element I clued in on when studying his work. This feature provided a thicker mass behind the face while keeping the center of gravity more heel-ward for easier workability. It also enabled a longer blade length without forcing the center of gravity further away from the shaft axis.”

Your Thoughts?

Have your voice be heard…let the guys and gals over at Adams Golf know what you think about the new Adams MB2 iron design. So what do you think…are these are (Hot or Not)?

Pity they ruined it with that massive IDEA stamp on the back.

It would be nice if Adams offered better fitting options. Ping,Titleist, Callaway all have fitting carts. Adams seems to be lagging behind on this.

Ummmm, sweet! Aren’t golfers tired of the smashed beer can on a stick look that has been the theme over the last several years? I certainly am and these MB2’s are very refreshing. Adams will not be considered a club for the aged if they keep this up. Great look!

Nice, though they seem very similar to some of the older Hogan designs of the 1960’s, especially the PC blades.

Look great. I’m currently playing the CB2s which i consider on of the best feeling forged irons i’ve ever played.

I think that Langer has something to do with the design, and designer being pursued. He has played his Hogan Apex irons for as long as I can remember. Langer is surely an Icon for Adams Golf. Oh yea he still wins a lot of tournaments.

They’re pretty- I love the black on silver look. I also appreciate the simplistic elegance- no real frills, just hit ’em.

I just happened to be looking over GD’s whats in the bag feature and saw that Bernhard Langer not only plays what looks like the 1999 Apex irons, but also plays an interesting set of Adams Pro Blacks that have a blade on blade design as well. Not sure if those irons are unique to him but they definitely fit if he likes the style. Long story short, my guess is he had some input into this new design since it seems to suit him. I would post pics, but am not sure how or if I am allowed. They are pretty easy to find on GD’s website or the wrx.

It sure looks like there are some kind of weights inserted near the sole of the club. There is some wedge customizer that I can’t think of that does this with tungsten. Seems like there are seven spots on each head. Maybe it is a replacement for the more obvious weight on the pro blacks.

Hopefully it isn’t a heavier material than the clubhead it is a blade after all. And they should go low…. I quite liked the weight on the MB’s. I can’t remember now was it for swing weight or to move the COG to the middle like the new TM’s?

They’re close to the Hogan blade-on-blade design but they had distinctive muscleback to them. When ever I look at the Hogan’s I think ‘they’d be amazing without the blade-on-blade bit a really tiny blade’ lol. The Adams look nice I loved the design of they’re MB’s not 100% on the IDEA name though what does it really mean? If you have a blade MB is just fine namewise and people know what you’re selling. With Idea it seems you’re selling some kind of tech which just isn’t there….

think they look great. any idea about the shaft offered?…project x flighted as standard option would be preferred..also top line design with mb2 takes away from the classic blade look. knitpicking though. i will buy.

Very nice. The 1999 Hogan Apex Irons were beautiful. These look really good.

Only suggestion would be to get rid of the “IDEA” branding. Since this is a better player’s iron they probably don’t want the IDEA cluttering up the look of the clubhead. At least this would be my preference.

“IDEA” doesn’t resonate with me and I’m willing to bet if you randomly sampled golfers they couldn’t readily explain it either. Just a guess though.

Love the direction. Adams is really making good moves these days.

These are incredible, the pinnacle of stunning blades. The 1999 Apex was the best looking by far and Adams just took it to the next level. I will buy these as soon as they come out. I am curious as to whether or not they are forged though? One would assume they are but there is nothing on them to say they are.
