MyGolfSpy.com – Spy Footage From (Valero Texas Open)
This footage you are about to see was acquired at an undisclosed location during the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open. What you will see is a sneak-peak at the soon to be released Callaway FT9 Tour Authentic Tour Issue Driver (with hosel).
Packing A Bigger Punch!
In addition to a few cosmetic changes…the Tour Authentic version seems to be packing a little more punch underhood as well. Ball speeds with the hosel version are said to be increased quite significantly. So you die hard Callaway fans keep your eyes out for these sometime soon.

Wow the hosel version looks a lot different than the other version. Its kind of surprising that golf companies are holding out on the public like that.

The FT-9, FT-9 Tour, and now the FT-9 Tour Authentic? I’m sure Taylormade has a hand in this somehow.

Any idea about what the FT-9 T/A gains by using a longer hosel ?
The hosel is counter to Callaways S2H2 and Tru-Bore design philosophy.

It began as a tour players desire. And special designs are always being made and altered for tour players. It gives it an appearance of a more open look and also makes it less of a nightmare for fitting shafts. Crzy to think that the S2H2 has been around for over 20 years now!

One other thing – how many cc’s ?

440cc is what we were told.

Man oh man. Amazing how much better looking that driver is with a hosel. I still think that line that goes across the top of the FT driver series is really unappealing, but at least they’re starting to move in the right direction.

Many people would agree with you Parker…but they kind of have to stick with it until they go with another model.

You do know what FT stands for don’t you???
Freaking Terrible!!!! To boot, they put it to the power of “9″. I can’t stand these drivers – just my opinion.
May 28th, 2009 at 7:23 am
Sounds like you really like Callaway drivers Bogey…lol. What’s in Bogey’s bag right now?
May 28th, 2009 at 10:16 am
I can tell you nothing Callaway other than their golf balls.
TM Burner Driver
TM R7 3 Wood
Ping I3 5 Wood (needless to say the TM 5 wood didn’t last long)
TM R7XD Irons 4-Pw
Vokey 56
CG10 60
Tiger Shark Putter
I know you are saying – wait that is only 13 clubs when you are allowed 14…Just so happens that I’m a magician on the golf course and can make 1 club into 2 clubs. Rendering the need to rethink what clubs I’m putting in my bag. I guarantee you though I won’t be placing a Callaway Freaking Terrible to the 9th power in my bag anytime soon.

Not a good name for a golf magician (BogeyThis)…kidding…just bustin balls Bogey.
May 28th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
With name like Bogey…I’m used to balls being busted MGS…no worries there. I never said I was good magician – why you need a club made into 2? I can do it now…

I have a couple buddies I play with who still play the old school Big Bertha fairway woods because they love the look and feel of them. They’re both single digit handicap players too. We were just talking the other day about how hugely popular the Bertha franchise was when we were in high school (1996-2000). It’s hard to pin point what went wrong after that. Taylor Made seemed to start gaining momentum with the Taylor Made Burner Bubble, and then sort of ran off with the driver market after that. Callaway just never made a really good driver after they moved away from the Big Bertha model cast. I can’t wait to see the direction they go in after the FT cast is thrown away FOREVER!

The Carbon C4 driver was the start of the downfall for Callaway. And unfortunately for them TM was ramping it up at the same time with designs from Priority Design Firm.
May 30th, 2009 at 11:00 am
I agree totally. After the C4, Callaway lost a lot of street cred with their drivers. I played the Big Bertha Titanium 2004 driver with an Aldila NV shaft in it. It was a solid club, but I remember looking at all the Taylor Made drivers and thinking how much cooler they looked than mine.

Well, I will have to let my Callaway friends know of this. I have a couple guys in my normal foursome who loves the FT-9 and I think one of my group would love this driver.

The new tour authentic is a very good golf club. It is a 390 cc head and the feature with the hosel is that the club is now bendable upto +/- 0.6 degrees. The club isnt out yet b/c Callaway can’t decide if they want to bring out the bending device similar to TaylorMade’s wrench and MWT or FCT. I have hit both the 8.5 and the 9.5 with a Graphite Design Pershing and the club is exceptionally hot. It has really good ball velocity and good lauch.
The smaller face is nice to look at, with a slightly deeper face makes the club easier to shape both draw and fade, plus high and low.

Head did feel pretty hot…but I was not on monitors so I could not get data.

i play the tour authentic 9.5 draw coupled with a fujijura z-com. this is easily the hottest driver i have ever hit, and i have hit them all. better on workability than forgiveness, definitely for straighter hiters. launches a little low for my taste, and spin is lower than normal, averaging about 2200 RPM. great for playing here in Texas, could be a problem on softer fairways.

No doubt Mike…it is a hot one.
