Title Production Manager
Job Details
Description The Production Manager is directly responsible for managing all shifts of one or more areas of manufacturing in the daily execution of the production plan and compliance with personnel policies. Responsible for meeting or exceeding daily production metrics including: safety, yields, utilization, product quality and output goals. Responsible for providing leadership to production functions to implement process improvement affecting throughput, work-in-process inventory and operating expenses through the application of critical problem solving techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (All Production Managers)
• Lead, manage and develop front-line supervisors (salaried, non-exempt employees) in the execution of the daily production plan
• Liaison between the SR. Director of Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain and Administrative groups and the shop floor supervisors/employees
• Liaison between the Managers of Order Management, Sales, Distribution, IS, IT, R&D
• Coordinates and ensures consistent safety and systems training and implementation across all shifts
• Regularly audits the systems execution and provides feedback/direction to the Supervisors on completeness and accuracy
• Evaluate the value stream and identify opportunities to eliminate non-value added steps in the process
• Review current “hot” issues and reprioritize and/or assign resources as necessary
• Provides guidance to supervisor’s regarding employee relations issues
• Provide positive and corrective feedback to subordinates on an on-going basis to manage performance. Corrective feedback to be delivered in coordination with supporting HR representative
• Conduct annual performance reviews including updated development plan for the coming 12 months
• Conduct group meetings as needed to communicate key information and to build group cohesion
• Responsible for developing, managing, monitoring and meeting process area budgets
• On occasion may cover duties of subordinates (when no peer is available, overload situations, etc.)
• Other tasks as assigned
Customs & Irons and Woods & Putters
• Management Tasks
o Develop goals, measures, & reports to support key objectives defined by leadership
o Work with subordinates and peers to develop plans to achieve stated goals and objectives and communicate key objectives to subordinates
o Provide summary information to present the impact of these plans (metrics) to internal customers
o Direct supervision of technical resources (Business Process Analyst, MLP, etc) & indirect supervisor of administrative resources
o Strategic plans to maintain staffing levels (as necessary)
Technical Support
o Use technical expertise to identify solutions for problem-solving and improvement opportunities
o Provides design and/or consultative services in support of projects headed by other disciplines such as controls/automation, engineering, sales, & supply chain
o Use technical expertise to identify solutions for manufacturing improvement opportunities such as Theory of Constraints, Scheduling, Process Control, Mistake proofing, & Velocity
Project Management
o Develop Project Plans: Work with subordinates and/or peers to develop detailed plans to accomplish an assigned objective
o Manage and coordinate the effort of those necessary to complete the project.
o Conduct team review of status and communicate project status by providing updates to peers and leadership as required
o Meet with personnel to assign new projects and reprioritize existing projects as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Track record of successful manufacturing project management planning; 2+ years experience required
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Strong analytical skills including the use and application of Six Sigma problem solving techniques
• Demonstrated understanding of industrial engineering concepts/practices and production machinery
• Leadership ability; track record of leading and motivating a workforce to meet production goals
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing including Value Stream Identification, Continuous Flow Manufacturing, Pull Systems and Theory of Constraints
• Knowledge of production scheduling such as MPS, JIT and Kanban
• Strong verbal and communication skills
Requirements Education and/or Experience:
• 4-year college degree or equivalent
• 5+ years manufacturing experience in a supervisory/operations management role
