Business Development Manager – US Sales
Job Details
The Manager of Business Development – US Sales will be primarily responsible for identifying new and significant revenue opportunities within the Off Course, Green Grass, Sporting Goods and Mass Merchant channels. The incumbent will work closely with the Director of U.S. Strategic Initiatives to develop and execute sales plans in support of newly identified initiatives. In this role they will provide Sr. Management with in-depth reporting on retailer sell through data and work with customers to drive increased sales and profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Market expert on retail operations/metrics and golf industry distribution in Off Course, Sporting Goods and Mass Merchant channels.
- Develop account specific strategies to optimize sku assortment, merchandising tools and uncover new business opportunities.
- Gather and analyze sell through data from strategic partners and provide Demand Planning, Manufacturing, Sales and Brand recommendations based on findings.
- Review sell through data with National Account Managers and Customers to ensure all accounts have the appropriate levels of inventory for all products.
- Ensure that all price changes for National Accounts are documented and accurate.
- Utilize sales information from SHOP.Callawaygolf.com to ensure that all strategic partners are carrying the proper depth of products (including licensees).
- Gain comprehensive understanding of all retail market data provided by Golf Datatech, Longitudes, NGF, and SGI.
- Work closely with National Account Managers to review current state of their accounts business and present opportunities to increase revenues and profitability.
- Review current reporting tools and research new opportunities to increase efficiencies and ways to deliver information for effectively.
- Create account specific workbooks detailing performance metrics for both the customer and Callaway Golf.
- Develop account specific inventory par levels for all new product launches.
- Visit various markets to study the retail environment and competition to determine strategies by channel.
- Provide quantitative analysis of current business by customer and propose opportunities to grow future revenues and profitability.
- Lead multi functional team in the discovery of new business opportunities and initiatives.
- Strategize on distribution decisions by channel and identify optimal distribution strategy for each customer type.
- Perform sku rationalization and optimization analysis as needed.
- Provide ad hoc analysis to all departments within Callaway Golf as needed.
- Provide leadership and direction to direct reports through knowledge, expertise and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Complete understanding of all Off Course, Sporting Goods and Mass Merchant channels with knowledge of market planning strategies and concepts.
- Creative ability to analyze market and channel sales data and formulate new and innovative strategies for capitalizing on potential growth opportunities.
- Fact-based in the decision making process with a pragmatic view of the marketplace and the opportunities within it, one who bring recommended solutions to the problems and issues at hand.
- Capable of working beyond functional boundaries to identify opportunities, develop and implement solutions to improve overall performance.
- Self starter that takes the initiative to start and complete assignments without direct supervision.
- Proficiency with MS office software applications (advanced Excel skills)
Education and/or Experience
- BA or BS required; MBA preferred.
- 6-8 years experience in strategic planning/business development in consumer products industry required.
- 6-8 years experience in analysis and interpreting data and project management required.
- Experience with Business Objects or a similar reporting tool required.
- Extensive golf industry/product experience a plus.
