I purchased my X-24’s about 10 months ago and I can offer some really good incite at this point.

First the good…

These irons go further. Because of the stronger lofts and the technology they are about 1 club longer on average.
There is no 3 iron – the set is standard with 4 to PW along with a SW. For my set I also added an AW and have no regrets. Because I carry 4 wedges including my GW I have no gaps in distance and have more options close to the green.
The sweet spot is larger and is forgiving. Even mishits don’t lose much distance or accuracy.
The perimeter weighting is very consistent down the set and this leads to better scoring because you can swing the same down the line.

But the bad….

Forget about the finish on the soles and faces. Mine is gone and down to the stainless. I think Cally could have done a better job on this but it does not affect my view at address so all is not bad.
The Uniflex might not be for everyone.
There isn’t as much feedback as forged offerings. (duh) When you hit the sweetspot you definitely know it because the ball goes further and there is no feeling at all. But otherwise it is hard to tell where you made contact.
For the money the Razr irons are now available and are, in my measure, a superior offering.

I just recently purchased the Callaway X24s irons; the orange color does not bother me nor does the wear of the finish on the sole or club face. I hit the X24s little father than I do my X22s but what concerns me is the lack of spin I obtain with any club above the PW. I have yet to stop it dead or back a ball up with any of the wedges (PW, AW, SW). Any iron above the PW if not hit extremely high will run out 10 to 15 feet. Several times this weekend I hit shots in the middle of the green and the ball runs out to the back fringe or all the way to the bunker (frustrating). It seems to me that the clubs smooth face and less than optimal grooves are a contradiction to what Callaway is advertising as a game improvement club. By the way I’m a 4 handicap so I’m hitting the ball well enough for it to spin.

I’ve read all the comments here and thought I would chime in. I bought the X 24’s about 3 months back and couldn’t be happier with their performance. The orange coloring is a bit much but only noticeable in your bag not when you’re looking down the club to hit the ball. My handicap is a 7 and I’ve played many different brand irons over the years both tour blades and cavity backs. In my opinion the X 24’s are an outstanding combination of feel and balance. They are very forgiving on mishits and soft and pure on well struck shots. The PVD finish does show wear but only where you are hitting the ball. So if you’re a hack and hit it all over the clubface this might bother you. If you hit the ball solid and in the sweet spot you will like the look of the wear because it’s right in the sweet spot. By the way if you are a range rat and hit lots of dirty moist range balls the finish will wear out quickly. If you don’t practice a lot or hit dry clean range balls the finish will stay much longer. Just thought I would add my opinion of what I feel are some outstanding irons, I really enjoy mine.

just got a set x24 hots used them three times and they look like i have played them for three years,really disapointed. clubs are ok the finish sucks

Coming from someone who just purchased a set after 6 years of X Tours these are great clubs. I am older and play to a 6 handicap, I like the colors and the club is much longer and way more friendly thatnwhat I was used to. Off center and mis hits still are accurate and long. I was concerned about the uniflex shaft after years of Dynamic Gold S 300 but they performed the same with less weight. Not sure why everyone compares these shafts to the KBS, the KBS are great shafts but the kick points are completely different there is not comparison from that point. I have never played the X series in cast but these feel great.

Just bought a set of X24s with graphite shafts last month. My impressions after a month of use are as follows: i) Forget about the orange and Hot graphics, they are immaterial during play; ii) the gun metal grey is nice but the sole scratches easily; iii) I hit the irons 1/2 club longer with a lower trajectory than my previous X14 set; iv) The sweet spot is small ! It took me some time to get used to the irons. Generally, they are easier to hit off a tee or when the ball is sitting up (seems to have a higher center of gravity) v) I can’t spin the ball so the “new” grooves don’t affect me; vi) I’ve never tried the X22s but I didn’t like the chrome finish…by comparison, the X24’s grey finish doesn’t reflect the sun at all.
Overall, I really like the X24s but I needed some time to adapt to them. Callaway’s advertising that they are longer and more accurate is true ONLY if hit on the “smallish” sweet spot.

i think that the x24’s are pretty much are just more expensive x22’s; and that callaway should actually change their clubs and make them better more so than just changing the color. (Like Ping).

Black smoke finish is a very cool for the new iron set coming out. Orange has got to go!! Stick with the blue, but in a more subtle way. Callaway made a really good looking iron when the created the x 22 tour backing. They need to stick with modern sophisticated look, not Walmart flash. GET RID OF THE WORD HOT OR WILL NOT BY THEM I !

6. callaway must stop ruining nice irons by getting too fancy, finicky, and gimmicky with the back of their irons. Most of the black clubs that look good have clean lines ad are mostly plain. These new ones, bottom line: I’m sure there good clubs but they like the forged diablos look cheap with the color on an already busy design.

Saw one today. I asked them to bend one. No prob. Longish hosel for callaway. No borethru. Burners and such are impossible to bend. Remember the bumpers on cars from the 50’s? The easy adjustment on loft and lie is a huge plus for me. Put in a KBS shaft and you are ready to go.

Unfortunately people will buy good looks [Skin deep stuff]
So.. I think its a mistake to hype a ‘Hot Iron’ [Whatever that is] with a colour to sugest more than it is.

Hit them today. They played about the same length (maybe 5 yards longer) than my current X-20 tours. Color is ok, orange is a little black but doubt very seriously if the finish will hold up. If you are like me and usually play tour models…no tour versions will be made of these. Found the offset to be excessive as well. I can’t really say that I see any significant differences in the X-20, X-22 or X-24s. If you are looking for a new set to replace an older set, then might be worth it but I would probably pick up the X-20s for about half the price.

Ok, My most recent posting is missing from here so here is a recap after seeing the X24 at a Demo day this past weekend. The question about the durability and wear of the finish has been answered for me. It is NOT durable at all. The demo 6 iron I saw had been to only 2 previous demo days and while the sales rep classified it as heavily hit, one has to question just how heavily in such a short time. At any rate, the sole plate finish was badly worn and obviously will not stand up at all. I found several wear patterns on the face as well and the scratches show up more prominently against the remaining dark background on the face. Same on the sole plate. I had my pro adjust the loft of my X22’s to be 2 degrees strong last year. I hit this X24 and found it NO DIFFERENT IN DISTANCE than my X22’s. Both reps present used significant “Sales Speak” in describing the “Hot Face” of the X24. When several people tried to pin them down as to what makes it “hot” they were deceptive and one actually openly lied in saying it was a “hot” metal. The X24 is made of the SAME stainless steel that Callaway uses in the X22. It is NOT hotter or more responsive than any other stainless steel. Callaway has made this club stronger in loft than a standard set and made the shaft 1/4″ longer so you can simply do the same to your existing set of clubs and you have duplicated what they are doing. Nice looking clubs but honestly no different than the X22.

Hey, I have not seen one in person yet but I like the looks in the pictures. Here are my concerns. First and foremost will the dark finish wear off in traditional contact areas? Second, I spoke with Callaway Consumer Relations and a sales rep at a demo day and I asked about the grooves. The X24 has the newly mandated USGA conforming grooves. These new grooves impart less spin and therefor you will have trouble holding the green on shots from the rough or less than ideal lies. That came from both sources. Since these are game improvement irons and intended for mid to high handicap players, why would they make this change? As for shafts, initially and until late August, the X24 is available in two shaft options only. Graphite Regular flex and Steel Uniflex. To achieve the “Hot Face” and longer distance claims they are making, the loft is 2 degrees stronger than normal so your 7 iron is now a strong 7 or a weak 6 in loft. The shaft length is going to be 1/4″ longer than standard. All of this info came direct from Callaway Consumer Relations……

Newest info……X24 will be available starting May 28th in STANDARD VERSION/SPECS ONLY! You will not be able to order things like upright or flat lies, longer or shorter shafts or any other option considered custom. The dark finish is electrostatic process which bonds the dark color to the stainless heads. While considered very durable, it will eventually wear to silver in the contact areas like the sole and face of the club. The term Hot Face is misleading in the sense that there is nothing different in the metal used between the X22 and X24 clubs. Whey they advertise the club as longer in distance it comes from the loft dimensions being stronger by 2 degrees and the shaft longer by 1/4″ than what is on the X22. There is no “magic metal” or process which makes the ball go further. It sounds for all the world like the X24 is a gussied up X22 made to sound like it is superior when it really is not.

I just tried the x-24’s at a demo day. Very nice club. Higher trajectory than my x-20’s. The ball really jumps off the face. Pretty sure these will be my next clubs.

I just had a chance to try the x-24’s at a demo day. Great club. I currently play x-20’s but plan to upgrade to the 24’s. The ball jumps off the face, with a higher trajectory than the x-20’s. Great feeling club.

The x24 logo is nothing more than a decal. If you remove the decal from the x18, x20 , x22 and chrome the x24 they all have the same visual look. I am sure the if this set does come out it will run 699.00 or higher. Okay, so why in world would you pay 699.00 for this when the x22 will drop in price to around 499.99 for the same looking club design without the black finish.

It will look better without the orange. Design is too similar to x22 so will not make any sense to change to a new set.

Ferrule aside, I don’t see a lot different in the metal itself. Looks like not a lot of functional difference from x22 aside from a new finish and badge.

Guess I’m the minority, but to me the black and orange scheme is a little tired. It’s been in the fusion line for some time and Ping pretty well beat it to death as well.

Maybe I’m just getting old, lol, but after owning 3 generations of Callaway X irons and FWs, and 4 different drivers, the styling choices in the current lineup would have me either look elsewhere or hang onto what I’ve already got.

Agree with comments on the looks – black finish great – orange color UGLY. I play Diablo forged with new nipon uniflex shaft and find them very playable. I am 8 index and like the feel very much. Had X-20 with older Uniflex and did not like. So if they are using Nipon shaft that’s okay… But make them look like golf clubs not Mardi Gras beads!

The black finish is definitely very nice looking and appealing to all golfers. The orange and the “HOT” name has got to go. Remove the huge amount of orange paintfill and maybe have accents of it somewhere in the cavity. Getting rid of the orange all together would be best and simply have an all black and white iron with maybe a little bit of gray to replace the orange. Overall, the iron looks fantastic.

If you like black, I think the Dynacraft Prophet Tours (which you’ve reviewed) are far better looking. These Callaways are too busy and colorful, at least in my view. (As much as I like the black look, I still wonder whether it is for sale mostly. On cast (i.e., aluminum) irons, a black finish is almost certainly going to “wear” to show the underlying metal color–that is, start to look worn sooner rather than later. An advantage of silver/grey colored finishes is that, while they wear, too, they do so in a bit less obtrusive way.)

Anyway, between the exaggerated fins at the toe and heel and the orange, even as someone who (in the abstract at least) likes black finishes (at least when new), I find these as trying too hard to combine too many style trends.

Had the chance to hit the x24 6 iron today and could not for the life of me tell a difference in this or the x22. The rep said they were integrating the “Hawkeye” and X technology, but I’m not buying it…

They look good, I think it’s darker color is very smart, I’m sure they are called HOT because of something they have done to the face to create a higher ball speed regardless of swing speed, Most people think they just chage colors and shape for a change in looks, they have NO IDEA how much the big companies spend and make their changes thru R&D to get better performance from the product.
Some of the other bloger’s obviously think Knock offs are real golf clubs
As for the Uniflex, it again is what they believe fits most golfers, Tempo Tempo Tempo, an X flex player can paly just as well with a softer shaft, just ask True Tempers Shaft Lab.

The irons look great cant wait to hit them I play callaway x forged now but these might go in my bag half of the guys downplaying game improvement irons cant hit a players iron or blade past the 6 iron consistently so don’t knock them until you try them why play blades bu tyou carry 4 hybrids in your bag be real about your golf game callaway irons look good can’t wait to try them for myself

Its only orange to match the x hot golf balls. Black is neat, x looks to cingular wirless like, love the color orange but distracting, maybe just as a border around the x

I have read the posts above and they all very interesting , but until you get your hands on the thing and use it in the real world you can’t comment , like the colour of the paint be, it orange red or whatever does make no difference to if the club is any good.

To me, they look like the exact same iron with different badging. They remind me of a Chinese knock-off of the X-22 or the like. I do like the PVD finish, but this series of irons is really pushing the boundaries of decency when it comes to the badges. Maybe a nice PVD finish with more muted badges using blues or greys would look a little more sophisticated. For the price that these irons will be sold at, it becomes important that the irons not only feel good, but that they have a look equal to their price. These irons probably feel fine for a SGI set, but the look makes them seem really cheap and adversely affects the reputation of Callaway in the process. I know many players who recognize Callaway by their “cheap” look, and shy away from their products for that reason.

Overall, really like the look of the look & color scheme of the irons. Used to be a former golf professional and was with Callaway for a number of years. For good reason. They are always pushing their R&D department to the maximum limits. Just wondering what the lofts for the irons are and steel shafts options and at what prices for up charges???

They look fine….not much on Technology changes over the 22’s but lots on looks.

I went from Callaway Fusions to Fusion Wide-soles…..very dumb mistake.

These look realy good and I may try them out.

I like the idea of hooking up with the orange color used with the HX-Hot series balls. Curious about the specs, wondering if they have strengthened the lofts over the 22’s. Also agree with those who ask for shafts in other flexes. I think a soft regular would boost sales to those with slower swings who do not want graphite, and regular and stiff options would allow Callaway to regain the lead they once held in iron sales. All in all a good looking line.

The club looks good as the recent X series have, but I still wonder about the heel/toe X design like the X-22’s. Doesn’t this tend to pull the weight up and into the center of the clubhead versus the X-20 which promoted greater heel/toe weighting?

i give these a 6.98, the colors are good but the orange might be better as a darker shade of orange. If there was also a version that had a very small offset, that would be awesome. Nice job guys at Callaway. Usually a nike guy but these definitely catch the eye.

I used to carry a whole bag of Callaway equipment but no longer do. Like others, I dislike the fact that they offer 3 flexes of graphite, yet only one uniflex steel shaft. Uniflex is too stiff for those that play regular and not stiff enough for those that play a firmer shaft. If you want anything other than uniflex, it’s an upcharge. Why would I pay extra for another flex shaft when I have my choice with other manufacturers?

These look great. I currently have Callaway X-20 and they are the best irons i have ever had. I am a 5 handicap and love the distance and feel. I love this color scheme, Cleveland and taylormade already do all black you don’t want to look like everyone else. I want irons that stand out from other irons and these do If you need someone to test them out i am more then willing.

Irons are sure becoming hideous, between the new Nikes, new Taylor Mades and other “Mega Cavity backs” it is just getting silly. There is no real evidence to suggest that these are any more forgiving than other irons, they just jack up the lofts to show that they get more distance than previous models so your 6 iron is actually a 5 iron, etc.

I don’t agree with you in your entirety. Cavity Backs seem to be much more forgiving for the amateur golfer based on my own amateur use (12 handicap).

Uniflex shafts come standard . . . I agree, they need to upgrade the standard shaft to KBS Tour or KBS Tour 90 for starters. The paint scheme doesn’t bother me so much. I wonder if the smoke finish will fade with use. My Cleveland CG12’s finish wears off, the Taylor made burner finish can wear based on my abbreviated testing and I would guess this would be the same. . . .Don’t know that I like that and that is part of the reason I currently use Mizuno’s. Nothing not to like about the looks there.

I love the smoke color of the irons! The orange paint in the center is distracting and actually makes it look cheap. Leave the the white X with the all black background.

I’ll give it a preliminary 7. I’m not a huge fan of the orange, but the black finish is neat. I’d be interested in knowing in which ways these aren’t just painted X-22’s, because the body shape looks identical to me. The vertical center of gravity on the X series has slowly been creeping upwards… I think Callaway would be smart to not let form completely overtake function. Lower those wings down a little to get the CG deeper while still having good MOI. Lastly, I applaud finally getting rid of the bore-thru head.

BIG ORANGE has got to go. Like the black finish. I still play X-14 and hav been waiting for soming thing that can really beat them, you have done it yet. I think the wings could be a little lower as well. I have never minded the bore-thru head always thoght it lept club stable. Uniflex shaft always worked well you guys should not knock it, those who must not know how it really works, it benifits your game. Stop trying to be better than you think you are.

I think it still has a bore-thru head although it doesn’t show here . . . .
