Carnahan Golf – Burnside Prototype Putter

Introducing: Carnahan Golf

The Carnahan brand is becoming a familiar name with quite a few of the MyGolfSpy readers.  We actually introduced the wedge and putter line-up last year at the 2011 PGA Show…although I have known about the head designer (Chris Carnahan) since 2007.  For those not familiar…Carnahan Golf is a boutique golf brand located in Portland, Oregon whose designs are all about vintage, clean, classy and timeless lines.  They offer customized builds, fast lead times, very competitive pricing and flexibility in terms that support green grass pro shops.

“The basic idea was to design products for elite performance and a timeless look,” says Carnahan. “We designed the clubs from a player’s perspective with a focus on quality and playability. We wanted a line of products that would showcase that vintage look and allow pro shops and head professionals to really fit their members and players.”

First Look – Burnside Prototype Putter

“We let the industry talk to us on this new model. However we have been longing for a double stripe alignment on one our flat sticks.  The Burnside takes its name after the Burnside bridge here in our home town of Portland Oregon. We kept the face in a gunmetal finish to create a visual contrast with our white head. Custom limited edition burnside head cover comes included.” says Carnahan.

The CNC precision milled Burnside putter is an authentic blade style made popular in the mid-1970’s.  Its flare tip hosel allows you to release the putter head freely after impact.  Putter comes equipped with a custom Winn AVS putter grip.

Available in 32″, 33”, 34” and 35” lengths.

Ok Chris I know I am late to this comment party but I though I would “pipe” in
You have a really good looking product there.
The classic lines of TP MILLS/ SCOTTY CIRCA 62#3 are very evident.
You have managed to make the lines even more flowing and sexier! KUDOS mate.
I would keep that style for a while…even after the black and white phase passes.
The contrast is amazing and I would definitely keep the black face going forward, when you decide to go to another color or more traditional metals.
If I could suggest a few things it would be the following:
You already have your name on the product quite a few time so putting it on the bottom of the putter is overkill, and takes away from the styling. I would only place the number of putters made on the bottom and close to the toe.
The limited I would place on the bumpers. along with weight of putter.
on the hosel I would allow for initials for the buyers.
the name of the putter I would place on the rear of the putter, I would shorten the font for your name.
I would not touch your logo as the initials. Its beautiful and could be done in a multitude of colors to contrast future putters of this design as you move away from white.
      There my two cents…

      cheers mate

mate great putter…your design needs to do a little more work on the style aspects especially where to place logos and names…but you are getting there.
and trust me …hopefully my last email went through…I know how hard it is to be stylish with the CC initials. I might just be tempted to buy this putter because of that logo.

Chris – I just ordered my first Carnahan “Broadway”. I am a putter collector which mostly consists of Original Bobby Grace’s, Tad Moores, Scotties, Bettinardi’s, Curries, and more. Your putters seem to be beautiful, and for the prices you sale them, its an easy decision to give them a try. If you are looking for Putter Styles, my favorite besides Anser and B60 styles are: Ping Zing, Bettinardi BB16, Ping My Day, 8802, & Anser with No Lines.

Tippet- Thanks for sharing your favorite putter styles. Feel free to email me directly at [email protected] if you would like here about my favorite styles. As you can guess, I am really drawn to the timeless styles but some might surprise you…

Thanks for buying the Broadway, I am sure you have dropped a few putts by now.

The putter is ok. This putter is just like a million others. These type of putters have not changed in decades with the exception of face technology and weight inserts. Boring. Wait a year and get it on eBay for 40 bucks. I wish these putter designers would try being a little more inventive in their putter designs.

Whats you favorite putter of all time?

The finishing touches are being crafted on our “proto” forged irons that have been in the works for some time. Will post a few sneak peaks on the forum soon….

Chris- I like the classic sleek look of the burnside. However, the white paint ruins it for me. Maybe offer it in white and black? Or maybe custom paint options at an affordable price. You get to choose the color of the sight line, the words, and an option for white or black head. But still keep it under $200. Custom putters for under $200 = best seller. Also, I really like the idea of the raised toe, I happen to own a Scotty circa 62 no.3 and I love the raised toe. Just looks nice at address.

Chris, I like the look..Subtle, understated, elegant..If the feel matches the looks, you’ve got a winner..I would like to relate my experience with Carnahan Golf, as I’m sure most of the MGS audience knows of CG only through the banners on MGS, or possibly visiting the site..During the winter of ’10-11 I was walking through a local sporting goods store to pick up some balls when I passed the wedge rack & saw a wedge whose markings I did not recognize, though @ first sight, it was beautiful..I picked it(56′, TT DG S300) up & was immediately struck by the weight & feel…It was marked “forged WEDGE” with a “CG” initial & the loft towards the heel..Subtle, understated, elegant..Someone, or whoever the hell “CG” was, got it..They didn’t feel the need to put 2-3 design benefits on the back & 1 on the sole..No, these wedges looked incredible, unlike any that I have seen in some time..I found the 52′ & the 60′ & purchased all three..went to the practice tee the next day…The head felt fantastic!..I had Mizuno MPT-11s in my bag, so I’m very particular about what I hit, much less put in my bag..This was not meant to be a review, so I’ll leave it @ these are great wedges..If you’re looking for a forgiving, game improvement wedge, this isn’t your club, though if you want a well machined, forged instrument that will allow you to optimize your ability, you owe it to yourself to hit these..Oh yea, the best part, better than the wedges was the guy who answered the phone when I called Carnahan Golf..It was Chris Carnahan..We talked for about 20 minutes & he was a gentleman & class act..No sales BS, just down to earth…How many OEMs have ya called lately where ya got to speak to the Chairman/CEO or owner?…I see alot of readers who write about how they hate how these big OEMs just roll out clubs & regardless of the quality, that’s watcha got & that’s whatcha gotta buy..Well, this is a guy who’s gone against the grain, in the worst economy since the friggin Great Deprssion, & he’s not only still here, he’s growing..And he’s moved into pro shops..There’s alot of big talk on this site, though how about not just writing great comments on this post but picking up the phone & ordering a club..You’re getting a first class product & you’re helping the “little guy” take on the idiots!!..The best to ya Chris, we’ll be talking soon..Fairways & Greens 4ever…..

I was all set to whine about yet-another bling putter. First I checked the web site. No, not another bling putter. These are VERY reasonably priced putters in classic styles. If Carnahan is adding updated technological value to these putters they should put some emphasis of that on their site. I really like that fact that you can order them in lengths from 32 to 35 inches.

Thanks for your comments on our Limited Edition BURNSIDE putter. Our goal is to produce a more modern look on our LTD models vs. the timeless and traditional look of our C.Carnahan line. In effort to reach two different audiences… What style would you like to see next from us Schuyler, Seamus O’Reilly, Brian, RT?

enough already with the white head!
gag me with a spoon, when will there be a selection of different colors- lets get back to basics in the area of club head color .
I will not purchase a club that has a white head. It’s distracting.
What is so great about a copy of an older model? A new name, metal is different?

RT, since white is not your choice for a putter, Carnahan Golf has a nice selection of traditional black Putters…I’m sure if you spoke to Chris Carnahan, he would be very accommodating in fitting you with a nice looking & great feeling putter….Fairways & Greens 4ever…..

Not doing much for me, very light milling reminiscent of Mr. Cameron (provides a clicky feel – not a soft feel from a deeper milling job) and outside of being white, I just don’t see the hype here. Nice looking….sure. Big departure from Cameron, not really. For me this falls under “more of the same”.

Scotty Cameron’s are great putters, and many of their models bear similarities to the numerous Ping models that existed many years prior. It is possible to suggest the Scotty looks like the Ping models, however the quality and craftsmanship are both very different. A Scotty and a Ping are hardly comparable.

By the same token, this putter clearly pays homage to the Circa 62, No. 3 as you suggest, however, it plays very different. The weighting is heavier, and the white finish brings the design current and relevant in the newest trends of golf. It might be worthy to note that you can be generous with this putter, by purchasing two extras for friends before reaching the retail price point of the highly revered Scotty Cameron rendition.

I’d agree with this statement, but probably for much different reasons :) All I’ll say is that I’ve never seen an sloppy weld bead on a PING putter hosel…

Umm… Is it me or does that putter look identical to a Scotty Cameron Circa 62 no. 3 with a candy white finish. With the exception of the name and color, it is the exact same thing.

Scotty Cameron copied the Ping Anser. You’ll notice that a great majority of putters are copies of copies of copies. The Odyssey #9 (White Hot XG, Tour, Black, etc.) series, SC Del Mar, Snake Eyes Tour Platinum 7805, Tour Edge Exotics David Glod Tour Proto V 3.1 and Acer i-sight San Miguel are examples of copies of copies. It’s not that big of a deal.
