Contest! – Win this Edel Clyde W. Hand-Engraved #ThePimpList Wedge

Contest has Ended

Congratulations to our Winner – Julie

Julie wants to name this stunning wedge The BellaDonna. We love the simplicity, and the way it represents everything that this Edel Masterpiece is; Beautiful and Deadly.

Check your email Julie, we need to know how to get you your Edel #ThePimpList Wedge.

Yesterday we rolled out #ThePimpList – a collection of 19 of the sexiest custom wedges you’ll ever find in one place. Today we’re taking it a step further. We’re giving away one of the most popular (based on your votes so far) Pimp List wedges.

This stunning deep-blue torched Edel Wedge, hand-engraved by Clyde W. can be yours.

MyGolfSpy Pimp List-21

Seriously. We’ve been so overwhelmed (in a good way) by the response that we’ve decided to celebrate the success of ##ThePimpList by giving all of you a chance to own this stunningly beautiful wedge.

If you missed The Pimp List yesterday, you probably should check it out right now.

Once again, here are the details on this one-of-a-kind Edel Golf creation:

Loft: 56°
Grind: Driver Grind 18 degrees of Bounce
Finish: Engraved by Edel Master Engraver Clyde W., finished by torching to a deep blue color
Metal:  Carbon Steel
Stampings (significance): Hand engraved by Edel Master Engraver Clyde W.
Designer/Grinder: Hand Ground by Neil Oster, Hand Engraved by Clyde W.

How To Enter

1. If you’re not already a subscriber, subscribe to the MyGolfSpy Newsletter (We’ve made it easy…here’s a form:)

2. Name this wedge. Every stunning work of art deserves a name. The Mona Lisa, Michelangelo’s David, or for the sake of a solid popular culture reference, Seinfeld’s Golden Boy…not that a t-shirt really qualifies for what we’re going for here, but you get it.

Be Creative, Be Brilliant

And on the off chance you don’t get it; let me spell it out for you. Leave a comment with your original name for this Edel Golf/Clyde W. masterpiece, and if you want to make it a bit more interesting, let us know why you chose the name. Be creative, be funny, and most of all, be brilliant.

They MyGolfSpy staff will review the entries and choose our favorite. They guy who came up with it, he wins the wedge. It’s that simple.

PIMP List-1-3

Hurry up and enter before we change our minds!

We do have very specific plans for a few of #ThePimpList wedges, but a few of you have suggested that we auction of some of these fantastic wedges for charity. It’s an idea that we’re kicking around, but there are certainly no strings attached to this giveaway.

We Can’t Force You, But. . .

If the eventual is so inclined, we would certainly appreciate a donation to The First Tee, or some other organization of the winner’s choosing dedicated to growing the game of golf.

Contest Rules

1. Contest ends Friday, May 9th at 8:00PM Eastern Time. Entries posted after that time will be disregarded.
2. Limit 3 Entries Per Person. That’s right…you get 3 tries.
3. Winner will be chosen from qualified entries by the MyGolfSpy Staff. Decision is final, and 100% at our discretion.
4. Must be a resident of planet Earth. Sorry, no Martians or Moon-dwellers.
5. As always…VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

      Rilievo or “Relief”

Relief, or relievo rilievo, is a sculptural technique. The term relief is from the Latin verb relevo, to raise. To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane.[1] What is actually performed when a relief is cut in from a flat surface of stone or wood is a lowering of the field, leaving the unsculpted parts seemingly raised.

Also – relief is what you feel when you’ve got such a powerful tool in your hand when you need to escape from trouble.

Possible Names for EDEL engraved wedge:
      1. S.-EDEL-E.R. (( It’s a play on the SLDR marketing. ))
      2. Edelicious (( It’s delicious looking. It’s Edel. It’s Edelicious. ))
      3. Edelweiss (Edelweiss is a perennial plant of the aster family native to alpine areas of Europe and South America. It has 2–10 yellow flower heads in a dense cluster. Below these flower heads, 6–9 lance-shaped, woolly, white leaves are arranged in the form of a star. It is also a wonderful song from the film the “The Sound of Music.” . . . like the sweet “music” you can make playing this wedge. Edelweiss root word meaning; from German, from “edel” noble + “weiss” white.

Edel’s Iced Inferno or Clyde’s Fire & Ice. You can attack old man par and your opponents with two powerful forces simultaneously. Fire at the flags with ice in your veins. The words Iced or Ice captures the wedge’s blue finish and the words Inferno or Fire captures the the free flowing flair of the engravings. Dante’s inferno was said to inspire Robert Frost’s Fire and Ice poem-

Some say the world will end in fire,
      Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
      Is also great
      And would suffice.

…….. The destruction of your opponent and old man par by fire and ice.

I would volunteer at the first tee and make a cash donation if I won.

Looking at this beautifully crafted wedge, I see many symbols that form the basis for a name. First, the border design looks like a laurel wreath used in ancient Greek games (Olympics) to award the winners. Second, the inner plant like design seems to depict nature, the movement of the wind and even a the rhythm/tempo that could be applied to golf. This movement seems random, but purposeful. Third, the color blue is often a symbol of the sky, water, a since of tranquility and confidence. Again, this relates back to nature and the enjoyment of being out on the golf course. (At least it does when you are having a good round) Lastly, the winged Edel logo communicates the force or tool that helps produce flight or propulsion. My names include:
      1. The Medal Stand- celebrates victory and symbolizes success and accomplishment in elite competition.
      2. Crown of Victors- celebrates player accomplishments by using the laurel wreath symbol of victory from ancient Greece.
      3. Wings of Victory- celebrates player success and recognizes Edel for their purposefully crafted wedges that help facilitate player skill/effort into victory.

      Ecarus

Wedge of Clydalus who dared to fly too near the pin on wedges of carbon steel and engravement. Clydalus had been imprisoned by King Thepimplist of Forum within the walls of his own invention, the 56Labyrinth. But the great craftsman’s genius would not suffer captivity. He made two sets of winged wedges by adhering feathers to carbon steel frame with engraving wax. Giving one pair to his caddie, he cautioned him that flying too near the pin would cause the wax to melt. But caddie became ecstatic with the ability of Ecarus to fly and forgot Clydalus’ warning. The feathers came loose from Ecarus and caddie plunged to his death in the sea.

      The Wolfsbane-
A beautiful blueish purpleish flowery plant, is one of the most poisonous plants in the world known for being used by the japanese to tip arrows in battle. If ingested by a human death is coming with 2 hours. The wolfsbane wedge is also a beatiful piece of art but deadly to its match play opponents. Some matches can end in less than 2 hours.

      [ in déermənt ]

1.expression of affection: an expression of affection, especially a spoken one
2.act of being endeared: the showing of affection
-This wedge represents the endearment one gentleman has for the game of golf. To take the time involved to hand etch this wedge is astonishing. If I won this wedge I admit I would not keep it. I would auction it off to help with my rising medical bills. Seven years ago I beat colon cancer and today I found out I have lung cancer and I’m a non smoker. Golf is a passion of mine but my love for my wife and children are truly what drives me. Being that I’m only 39 yrs. old I have no choice but to beat cancer again so I can create more golf course memories with my family.

“Back in 1835, when Halley’s Comet was overhead, same night those men died at the Alamo, they say Samuel Colt made a gun. A special gun. He made it for a hunter. A man like us, only on horseback. Story goes, he made thirteen bullets. This hunter used the gun a half dozen times before he disappeared, the gun along with him… Somehow Daniel got his hands on it. Suggestion 1: Lividus Laurea

Latin for “Black/Blue Victory” . Lividus is the description of a dark blue/black tint in latin and the word Laurea means victories, but it’s also the word for the Laurel plant that the romans used to make wreaths of to crown the victor. So the name would represent the colour, the engravement and the victories the club will bring.

Necromancer – For I envision this wedge talking to the ball that is ‘dead’ deep in sand or rough and helping me talk the ball out of its insistence to lay dead!

Slightly morbid, but pretty aggressive and true to its qualities. The dark engraved lines add to its mystery and aura.

A necromancer can ‘summon and use the dead as weapons’. This wedge will help me do that to the ball

      Following from wiki:

Necromancy /ˈnɛkrɵˌmænsi/ is a form of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge, or to use the deceased as a weapon, as the term may sometimes be used in a more general sense to refer to black magic or witchcraft

Remember that magical teenage night with your first girlfriend in the backseat of your Dad’s 79′ Buick?

That special night when the possibilities seemed endless–until the freaking porch lights came blazing on and her Dad came running out of the house with a flashlight in one hand and his Ben Hogan Metalwood in the other?

Remember how you felt laying in bed later that night and thinking about a hell of a lot more than just that bulge on your head and the unfortunate fact that he had opted to install the 135 gram True Temper extra-stiff steel shaft in his driver?

Well, that’s exactly how I’m going to feel if I don’t get my dirty, grubby hands on this gorgeous Blue Wedge from Edel Golf.

it’s more than a sculpture, painting or architectural design engraved on a piece of steel, its a bit of an engineering genius who accepts nothing but perfection. Do you realize how difficult it is to engrave on a non flat surface? Sad thing is, it’s a piece of art that I wouldn’t dare hit a golf ball with.

“American Eagle” should be the name of this wedge. Who doesn’t dream of holing out from the bunker for an eagle. Besides, the beautiful engraving on the wedge looks like an eagle’s wings in flight. Just beautiful.

This is a species of blue flowers that grow around the world. They are also known as Widow’s Tears which goes along with the term “golf widow” or lonely wives crying because the men are playing golf while they are lonely at home.

      Mercury’s Jigger

Mercury, as in the roman god with the winged sandals which symbolizes the winged logo, and as in mercury the element, which is what the color and shine of the club kind of reminds me of.

And Jigger, as in the old school name for a wedge that is no longer really used (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsolete_golf_clubs)

I think this wedge would be waaaay to pretty to actually play with, given my woeful skillset.

      Anyway… here’s my 3 suggestions

      1 Clyde’s “Dale”
      2 Winged Wunder (Edel’s logo)
3 “Eve” of Garden of Eden (so nicely engraved on this beauty) … blissful continued existence with a chunk & run… versus temptation of that risky flop shot.

“Gunsmith” – the engraving reminds me of a custom made shotgun or rifle with very nice engraving, the torch also reminds of the nice blueing on a barrel

“Shooter” – like I said, it reminds me of a custom made firearm, and you can shoot at the pins with this wedge

“Shotgun” – same as the other descriptions

      1. “Edel’s Easy Rider”, because the exquisite intricacy resembles a classic custom bike, and it is destined to be a one-of-a-kind classic just like the movie.

      2. “Edel’s Oster Clyde Blue Wing”, has all the names of those involved in its creation, the color, the engraved wing, and it will give your game a wing like no other wedge can.

      3. “Edel’s Oster Clyde Blue Artisan”, has all the names of those involved in its creation, its color, and because it is a classic work of art.

      LONGCLAW

Every great blade should have a name, and what better name than the name of a Bastard Sword (size of the Sword) given to a Bastard Son. That’s right I’m going there. Jon Snow the Bastard son of Eddard Stark, who receives this blade from Lord Commander Jeor Mormont the head of the Brothers of the Night’s Watch for saving his life.

And how many times will LONGCLAW Save your life, Ok maybe not your life but your game!
I know every time I hit my Wedge, I pray to the Old Gods that if they will only grant me this favor I will owe them greatly. And when I strike the ball with my blade, I feel the powers of the Old Gods running through me. I look to see the graceful prayer filled stroke as it heads to the green. Well Crap, another ball in the water.

And in this game of Steel vs. ionomer resin I feel like I’m a bastard son and this game is my Father, teaching me that simple prayers to an Old God doesn’t Stand up to the Test of The Golf Gods.

-It’s groovy, as in cool with charisma and swagger.
-It’s flat out beautiful, more so than the freakin Monalisa but you where I’m goin.
-it’s got grooves all over the thing… As in engraving, face grooves, it’s the other non-groovy groovy too.
-if a piece of metal with a shaft can be called delicious, well this would be that…
Toss all that in a ball washer spin it till your wrist hurts and out comes the one and only on earth ****Groovealisa-licious****

      “Noble”

The word edel translates to noble in Dutch. The etchings also remind me of a fine firearm, such as were made by the Noble Firearms company from 1950-1970. Very similar engravings to a Noble shotgun my grandfather had.

      Et tu Brute

For a few reasons. (1) The leafs on the outside of the design remind me of the leafs that Roman folks would wear around their heads. (2) It’s just fun to say “Et tu Brute” already. Now imagine saying it to your buddies after you just stuck a wedge to 2 feet.
