Well-known electronics manufacturer Epson America is entering the sports wearables market. Golfers will want to pay particular attention to the company’s M-Tracer MT500GII Golf Swing Analyzer.

We Have a Winner!

Congratulations Duncan M., you’ve just won the Epson M-Tracer Swing Analyzer.

For those who may not be aware, Swing Analyazers are small electronic devices (often they clip to your shaft or glove) that collect and store key bits of data that can help you analyze (and improve) multiple aspects of your golf swing.

Epson M-Tracer empowers golfers to improve their swing in an easy and intuitive manner, ultimately resulting in lower scores and more fun” – David Ledbetter

While Swing Analyzers can work hand in hand with professional instruction, they’re an extremely popular choice among those for whom the golf swing is a do it yourself project.

The m tracer has been out for a month now and I can’t find a single review on the internet. I want to know, is this thing accurate and reliable? I had the swing byte I, and I liked it but I couldn’t really trust the numbers because the sensor moved a lot, and it only worked half the time. Thinking about getting the swingbyte 2 or the m tracer.

A good idea, but Epson’s product isn’t ground breaking and they are jumping into a sea of electronic gadgets already flooding the market place. Secondly, cheaper isn’t always better, but at $299 Epson may want to reevaluate that price tag. Anything over $200 should provide a wow factor at this stage.

      Consistency!
We all know when we swing well, and when we don’t. I personally can remember every shot after a round, the good with the bad. I would like to see if I could page through every shot I made during the round, and see how the good shots look compared to the bad ones. I would like to see shots that I tried to draw, but then actually faded, and see if I can see enough detail of shaft travel to show where things went wrong. Conversely, I would like to see swing paths of perfectly hit balls, and then compare between good vs bad swings to see just how different they are. I’m guessing it’s subtle, and I’m not sure this thing would actually be able to show minute differences.

This past year I have played more golf than I have for the past 21 years. For my 36th birthday, my wife bought me two one hour lessons from an assistant pro at a local prestigious course. I took these lessons at end of July and this has led me to drop my average score from 95+ to my best all time round of 82 on September 12. Golf is now my obsession. I enter all of my scores into a GPS. I read books, watch videos, scour the Internet and talk to others about how I can improve my game. The Epson M-Tracer would help fuel my obsession, at home, when the weather permits. This is important to me as I have a smattering of kids laying around this house, who I have been introducing to the game. I want a product that would provide me with solid data analysis of my swing, and show me how to improve my path and help them to love the game as I do. I was planning to purchase a simulator to gather data this year, but my indoor space isn’t adequate unless I raise the ceilings, or sell this joint. After looking at their website, M-Tracer provides much better data than the simulator and seems to be an easy set up. I have two goals this year. I will work to reach a par 5 in two, and break 80 for the first time. With M-Tracer I am positive, with my ambition, I would be able to accomplish both. If you select me for the sweepstakes I will provide you with a nice review of the product and updates to my quest in 2015. Thank you for the opportunity!

I’m a practice junky. Living in the wintry East coast, working full-time, and having several kids I’m relegated to hitting balls into my custom built archery net on a retractable curtain rod hanging in my garage all winter. Setting up my P3pro is outdated and takes time; my aging cell phone and tablet slow motion video apps don’t give me a wide enough angle nor enough frames per second to truly analyze swing; the wider angle gopro distorts the images; and my video camera needs to be uploaded to the computer before analzying–just too many steps for quick feedback. I’ve been looking to get an item exactly like this and have read your reviews on swing trainer/analyzers several times but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

The hardest thing in golf, for me, is to keep the feel for shots and possibly this could help with full swing, half swing, and chip shots. Sounds good in theory anyway. Thanks for the opportunity guys.

I believe the strength of these devices is the ability to gain consistency or find the lack of consistency and pair it with instruction to learn new “feel”. It is the ability to gain input on tempo and club path. I did GolfTech before and that was a little too data intensive and a pain to harness up for and what I have found is that tempo and feel are the keys along with athletic preparation. This seems like it may fit fight into that groove.

I am going to have more time to work on my game this year. I would like to work on the following areas with this device.
1- club speed..what move helps increase club speed to regain some of the length I have lost over the years.
2- path. Working the ball. I am a fairly good player (index 5.1) but would like to work the ball better.
3- short game- this is huge…path and smoothness in chipping and pitching .
4 – mid irons. Need better more reliable contact with the longer irons. Spent my whole life having 8, 9, or wedge to green. Now older I am struggling with hitting longer approach shots. Need to compress the mid irons better.
5- wouldn’t hurt to groove the putter now and then too!

This is cool technology that I’ve been interested in checking out for some time now.
I’d be particularly excited to compare my range swings vs. my playing swings.
Understanding that difference would be a huge benefit to my game right now.
Should I be the lucky winner of course!

I would use the M tracer to establish a feel for specific ball flights. At times feel is not real and I’d like to know what my face and club path are really doing. With this knowledge I can make corrections for my desired ball flight.

This device would be a great addition to something like Arccos so that you could track your swing and your progress on the course in combination. To have the ability to see real-time swing analysis is such a nice tool for someone like me who tries to be self-sufficient when it comes to their swing.

I think I would use the M-Tracer in many ways, but especially to check my tempo and impact position on the range before each round, so I can make adjustments, or at least know what swing I’m working with for that round. Looks like a good tool.

With my slower Swing Speed (90-97 mph) the M Tracer would identify areas of my swing that could be improved so that I could regain lenth.

The M-Tracer securely attaches to the golf club grip to capture and send data to an iOS or Android smartphone in real-time via Bluetooth® at the rate of 1,000 frames per second. With a built-in Inertial Measurement Unit developed by Epson for industrial applications, the M-Tracer tracks and records the swing path of the club, club-head speed, club-head path, face angle at the time of impact, tempo and more.

Once the data has been collected and stored, the M-Tracer smartphone app shows the golfer’s full swing path in 3D and offers the ability to rotate the view and compare their swing against that of a pro-level golfer or their own previously recorded swings. The app also provides comprehensive graphical analysis of the impact zone, shaft rotation, club speed and swing tempo. It even has a built in freeze frame option for the critical “halfway back” and “at the top” positions.
