POLL: If This Was A Scotty Cameron Would You Be Buying?

Scotty Cameron Is One Of The Best…BUT

Don’t get me wrong…Scotty Cameron is a super-talented putter designer…BUT…and this a big but…the man uses his fame to sell some f-ugly putters.

I mean come on…seriously…when did it become popular to own a putter with sloppy welding jobs? Or better yet…when was it cool to own a putter that looks like it was left in a room filled with 30 toddlers armed with a stash of flourescent crayons. It really baffles me what people will buy with this mans name on it.

So…That Got Us Thinking

We were looking over some spy pics of a new prototype putter from F2 Golf over the weekend. Yeah…the same F2 Golf that made those wacky looking wedges that you all had nightmares about because of all the late night info-mercials they bombarded you with on the Golf Channel. Anyway…we were looking over this new prototype putter from F2 Golf for a sign of some actual useful technology that could really help golfers get the ball in the hole quicker…but we all said, “typical odd shaped mallet putter with some more useless 4-gram MOI weights…just another disappointing prototype putter” Right? Well maybe not….if you look at it like this.

Take Another Look…But This Time From A Different Angle

Take a look at this putter again….but this time imagine it was designed by the famous Scotty Cameron. (Cue the Yoga music please) Imagine now that the name Scotty Cameron is so elegantly engraved in the sole and on the back cavity. Now visualize some of those beautiful crazy stampings that Scotty loves to insert pound all over his limited edition prototypes. Now remember folks, this is a “limited edition” these will only be available for a very short time. So act fast…before they are all gone and you’re chance to own a classic is gone forever.

SEE! WE CAUGHT YOU! YOU WERE ALREADY REACHING IN YOUR WALLET FOR THAT CREDIT CARD!

Your Honest Opinion…Don’t Worry We Won’t Tell Scotty

So you tell us…do you think you would feel more compelled to purchase this putter if it had the Cameron name welded on? We really want to hear your honest opinion…chime in…hell start a fight. I think the Cameron Collector Cult (AKA: Cameron Crazies!) are very interesting. Scotty’s putters have become to men what BeanieBabies were to women

I am sure that a few “Cameron Crazies” would purchase because it has Scotty’s name on it, but jeez…Did Scotty run over your dog??? Why all the hate? By the way, does Tiger putt with the Big Luv??? Didn’t think so. “nuff said.

You seem to have a huge distaste for Scotty? What did he ever do to you?

I love Scotty’s putters, but not all of them. What you are forgetting to tell your, probably 20, passionate readers is that Cameron has the highest quality machined work out there. Many of his tour putters are still hand made BY HIM.

Me thinks, you are just jealous ;)

Well if you had studied as much as I have about putter design and designed as many putters as I have you would then understand where I was coming from.

Scotty is a great designer…but overhyped would be an understatement for his design work. He became famous for 1 reason and one reason only. If it was not for Titleist Scotty would still be in a garage like 99% of all other putter designers. I think Scotty does high quality design work…but having high quality machine work is worthless if you don’t have a good design. Many designers use similar machinist as Scotty first of all and secondly EVERY big putter manufacturer HAND MAKES the tour players putters.

The main reason is because they need minor adjustments that can be made on the fly…that is why milling is so big on tour to begin with…it is much easier to makes changes to a milled puter over a cast…with casts you have to make an entirely new mold every time you want a change made.

Oh…and just so you know…we have 50,000 monthly readers.

Love your passion for his work…but from the looks of it being a collegiate golfer has not taught you one thing….do your homework before you challenge the teacher.

I am sorry but for you to say it is simply because of Titleist that Scotty has become what he has I think downplays how good he is. Even before he was signed by Titleist Scotty’s putters were played on tour. Bernhard Langer won the Masters with a Classic one Scotty Cameron putter before he was even on Titleist’s radar.

He may be a little over hyped as a pure designer but his simple tweaks of designs that have come before him are much better than what I believe anyone else has come up with. I mean heck there is a reason that %50 percent of the PGA Tour plays a Cameron putter. I bet it is also the same reason why his putters consistantly have over 40 wins a year and this year had 78 worldwide wins. You can’t argue with that, especially since a large amount of those wins come from people who are not even on staff with Titleist or Cobra.

      GolfGirl,

You are Scotty’s ultimate customer! And are Beanie Babies still popular?

Scottys only ever made about 3 original designs in his life and they all flopped. The Futuras and the Detour.

I will admit though the Detour does intrigue me

I agree with you…but people definitely buy putters for other reasons. If not Scotty would not be selling any of these wacked out putters.

I quite like that putter, not quite as much as I liked the DeLaCruz but I;d bag the F2. I buy putter because of the look and feel. I’ve bought putter from anywhere between $1 and $200 because I like the feel. Name/brand be damned. The name doesn’t make the ball get in the hole
