If Sergio wins, I’d be curious to see what percentage of the the drivers Taylor Made gives away are the R9’s versus the Burner and R7L models.

It’s a win win situation for Taylor Made. If Sergio wins (which he probably won’t), then Taylor Made gets a ton of publicity, and also a ton of buzz and press about all the drivers they gave away. Obviously they’d lose money on the free drivers, but it would be a lot less money then they’d have to spend in trying to develop an ad campaign to reach as many viewers as Sergio winning the Masters would. Obviously, if Sergio doesn’t win, then Taylor Made just suckered a bunch of people into buying drivers that they probably didn’t even need in the first place. Marketers are an evil mind controlling group of SOB’s. God bless consumerism!

I don’t think TM has caught onto the fact that they are starting to drive more and more consumer’s away from their constant product releases. Don’t get me wrong they make good drivers. But do they really have to make 6 versions of each. No new model will go any further than the other unless it has fitted properly.

I don’t think it will entice many people who are not in the market to buy a Tay;or Made driver. Those that that like them will buy them anyway. Even thought the odds are almost like the lottery, if your buy one you might as well send it in. What will it matter?

Taylor made has never been a friend to green=grass retailers. Now, they are in cahoots with Golfsmith, making an offer that no pro shop could afford, or reallly (if they were in their right minds) offer. Having said that, If a golfer comes into the shop and wants to buy Taylor-Made, and if the only way he”ll buy is if there is a little wager on the side, I might be inclined to say if you buy the driver, fairway woods, irons, putter and adidas shoes and if Sergio wins the Masters it’s all free. But then, being a golfer, I am a liitle crazy, but not so crazy as to think that Sergio has a chance at the Masters. I’ll give you a Taylor Made hat if he makes the cut.

Not to mention, if Sergio sees the ad and thinks anything of it, it could add more pressure on him winning. He always seems to buckle under pressure.

TaylorMade is a shady company. I bought the R9 today and the R11 comes out tomorrow. The new R13 comes out in April. I hope they have to eat this. You will never see Nike with this becuase they know Tiger can win…I don’t know too many people who will pick the Spanish Whiner to wear the green jacket. It’s a desperation attempt to boost sales in this economy.

Well, it is definitely an interesting promo. I highly doubt Sergio will win the Master’s, but you can’t completely rule him out. He has a chance, but he needs to nail down a couple of things before he gets to Augusta. All I can say is good luck Sergio!

I can certainly say I do not hold the same opinion as Golf Girl, now that is out of the way…I have to agree with Kiwi. I like Sergio because he can hit a 3 iron as far as most of us hit our drives…they should have given away a putter of your choice – that would have been the more suitable (Ironic) scenario. Until Sergio can putt…he won’t win a major.

Not sure if anyone has caught it or not, but there’s no purchase necessary. There’s a form you can fill out and mail in… if Sergio wins they send you the club you select on the form.
