#MyEdel – Your First Design Decision

A few weeks ago we announced a first of its kind; the world’s first crowdsourced putter design. And it’s right here on MyGolfspy.

We’re talking about a putter designed not by a major manufacturer, not some famous putter designer either. Instead we’re talking about a putter designed by you and produced for golfers.

MyGolfSpy has partnered with Edel Golf to offer you, and other golfers, the opportunity to be a part of something special. MGS wants to empower and inspire you to design a product you can proudly say that  you were a part of creating.

We call it the #MyEdel putter.

How It Works:

Today’s decision is just the first step in a series of #MyEdel design decisions that you will be making. Since this putter is 100% crowdsourced, our readers will be involved in every aspect of this putter’s creation. What that means is that we’ll have several more exciting choices to make as we build our putter.

Today, we’re starting with the very foundation of the putter; the head shape and hosel design. The team at Edel Golf has given us 4 very exciting design option. They include traditional blade and mallet design; each with elements that make them distinctly Edel. We’re going to use one of these designs as the basis for something distinctly yours.

To get the ball rolling, we need you to choose the head shape and hosel design for the MyGolfSpy #MyEdel putter.

Here are your choices:

Umpqua with Hand Twisted Hosel

      Mr. deLacruz,

As you well know, this can be a brutal business with many highs and lows. Thank you for one of those highs, and coming from a great club maker as yourself, one of the greatest compliments of my career. I would relish the opportunity to meet you and share our experiences.

      Thanks again,

      David Edel

PS. Thank you to everyone for your posts and interest.

When the real blade is available (homage hand milled-by David Edel) I will buy one. I presently use and old KZG just like that, about 15yrs. old.

      GOOD LUCK

I had the opportunity to check out a number of Edel putters at the PGA show and fell in love with the Homage. That was the one, that once I held it and took a few strokes, I couldn’t stop thinking about.

I have been a successful golf club designer for the last 40 years. My designs have sold
      in the millions of units.
I just want to say I am very impressed with the work of David Edel. I have the experience and knowledge to make this statement. I would some day like to meet this unique craftsman.

In my opinion, the Umpqua with Hand Twisted Hosel, would grab the attention of people that have zero idea that fun, functional and fantastic putters are made in Texas and available for purchase. That putter is a conversation starter and from what I hear “an ace maker”.

I like the E-W Proto Mallet with zero offset flow neck but I would like to see a more “squarer” head shape. A symmetrical square shape is naturally easier to align.

I am pleasantly surprised that my choice E-W Proto Mallet with zero offset flow neck – is also what most of the voters chose. Only thing I feel should be added, is a sight line, and we are good to go!

Oh yes, one more thing… choice of material plays a part too. Damascus steel for premium offering, then you can have other grades of carbon steel / copper for cheaper models.

Do that right, I think you are going to have a hot seller!

Don’t like any except first one with funky neck. But my preference is a mallet with offset.
The only mallet has no offset so not a great choice for me in four models. Reluctantly voted for 1st based on cool neck alone.

      What he said ^
Would also like to see a line or dot(s) to show the sweetspot.
      Thanks.

I’m sure the lines and dots are coming up in future votes, but I see how they might influence your decision here. I was torn, like Shark. If it was up to me, I’d want to see the twisted neck on the mallet. But I guess we can’t complain to much. Still a really cool idea and project coming from MGS. I’m excited to see where this goes, especially if they put finishes and stamps, and engravings into the mix.
