Wow Jon. You sound very offended. Am I not allowed to offer an opinion? I’d think that as an avid reader, and even if I wasn’t, the MGS crew would like to know how their subscribers feel. I have no dog in this fight. I’m not the one on a mission to change the equipment industry – they are. And kudos to them for that. But obviously to do that they need readers, and donors specifically.

I personally find myself frequenting GolfWRX and The Hackers Paradise, since you asked. I like the blog and equipment forum aspects of both of those sites which are similar to what MGS does here. I find however that the others offer up to date breaking news, tour reports, and much more equipment pics.

I don’t mean to discourage here but to encourage.

I appreciate the feedback Jonny. While I could not disagree more I do value constructive criticism.

But here is some food for thought:

      1. Breaking News – none of those sites are breaking news. They are simply providing you with copy and paste versions of press releases given to them directly from manufacturers. These manufacturers control the message 100%. The journalists on even sites as big as Golf Digest and Golf.com much bigger than THP admit that they are not allowed any freedom with what they write anymore. They are allowed to put a sentence at the top and the bottom of a PR and that is it. Far from breaking news. The type of news we deliver runs contrary to what the manufacturers want you to hear often times. That is why it looks different. Our content is original, original content take a lot more time to produce then clicking control-C & control-P.

      2. Forums – the sites you mention use you and others for their content farming. Meaning the content most you read is far from vetted or from talented writers with years exp. in the industry. Typically they wait for you to produce the content in forums and they copy and past from that content. Once again no original content being produced.

      3. Shotgun Approach – this is once again diluted content generally speaking. What they do is use their size to say, “hey come write for us and get recognition!” But they don’t pay the majority of their writers. So if you ask their editors, here is what you get at WRX. A guy that has to field a barrage of mostly junk content submitted from random readers. They love this model because once again it is free and abundant. We prefer the quality over quantity model. We totally understand that perception is reality and that some people like yourself seem to feel that more must mean better. We disagree. We don’t like fluff, and I personally consider what 99% of the golf industry is producing nowadays is complete and utter fluff.

      4. Tour Reports – Greg (WRX photographer) is a workhorse. They should pay the guy 1/3 of what the site makes. Because they turn his pics into 1/3 of the content they publish. But that being said. WITB of pros is useless to consumers. Yes I could pay a guy to go shoot pics for you. But I am here to provide value to the consumer and help educate them to the best of our ability to what actually is valuable to them and their games. A driver Rory is playing is the last thing you should be playing 99% of the time. It is an overhyped part of the business that is no different than a People magazine using celebrities to sell mags.

Once again OUR MISSION is to help get golfers get the most out of their performance, money and time. We empower our audience with truthful and reliable information that serves their game and interests.

BEFORE WE PUBLISH ANYTHING WE NEED TO ASK

Does this story educate, entertain, encourage or elevate the golfer or game?
We are here to raise the level or play in everything we do.

That is one of the things that sets us apart from the other golf media outlets. And I and no one here is goijng to give that up for some so called Breaking News or WITB pics.

I wish you the best of luck. I see a future road fraught with challenges for you. Taking on the status quo and the biggest names in the industry will not be easy.

Before I donate, I’d like to express one concern. There just seems to be a lack of material published on this site. I only see a new article is published about 2-3 times per week. There are other golf blogs that publish 5x that amount of content. The name of the site is “my golf spy” but I routinely see other sites getting images and specs of new equipment ahead of you guys. Look, I don’t know what the details of your operations involve, or how many staff you have. I’m sure its not easy doing what you are trying to do with no ad dollars. I don’t know how you pay for anything on just donations alone. But from my perspective, a follower of your site for the past few years, the content has got to step up in volume. I’ve seen a decline in it recently, and I don’t know why, but I won’t be a donor until I see you guys stepping up your efforts to publish new material more often.

are you serious? Just because other sites are producing more articles does not mean the content is actually good. Most of the stuff that is out there is subjective click bait. The process to create articles like these takes actual time and effort to produce results that are actually backed up by data.

I challenge you to name these blogs, and point out specific articles that you feel are superior.

I am new to this mygolfspy thing, but I am an old MG customer, (more than 20 years) especially the gloves. I keep about a dozen my bag – and I have a few of the “Big Name” gloves, gifts from friends – they stay in the back of my SUV

Color photo’s of the putters would be nice to see. I’d love to see alternate views of the Berkley. Berkley wins for best clandestine marketing strategy. Website? We don’t need no stinking website. Their twitter account was last updated in 2011…………………..2011! Am I missing something?

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but my question in indiegogo wasn’t listed.
      So here goes.

For those choosing the $25 perk, a $12 has to be added to the donation.
How about those choosing the $100 perk? Also 12$ or?

      And what if I choose both? $12 x 2?

You want to really annoy manufacturers, put the Golf Spy category winners from the previous year into the newest test. Those claims of more yardage and greater accuracy will really be tested.

YES. THIS. I love the testing MGS has done on comparing current clubs to each other, but that’s limited in its value. Only those who know they are going to, or at least plan to buy a new club that year really can use the information (the rest of us just like reading it!). If you start a database that will historically list all the data for previous seasons’ clubs and automatically update the ranking, then you really would achieve #powertotheplayer. If I’m not sure if I want to replace my 3w with one of this year’s models, it would be great to know if the new “it” clubs really perform better than the one I’m bagging… and if that increase in performance is substantial enough to warrant an upgrade. I’ve donated in hopes that this is where you’re going in the future. I have no doubt that MGS will be a true player in the golf industry very shortly.
