Nike’s 2015 Leaked Lineup is Seriously Legit

Nike’s 2015 Leaked Lineup is Seriously Legit

Written By: Tony Covey

Nike Golf has lost contain.

Every last Nike cat is out of it’s proverbial sack, and there’s no stuffing them back in now. Leaks are flowing at such a rate that we’re starting to believe Nike Golf is doing this on purpose.

You’ve seen the Vapor irons. You’ve seen the meaty part of the Vapor driver lineup and by extension you should be able to figure out what the Vapor fairway woods and hybrids look like too. If you can’t, no worries, we’ve got more details on that stuff as well as your first look at the upcoming Method putter lineup and the new Engage wedges.

Click on any of the images to enlarge, and be sure to read to the bottom when I discuss what I believe is the single most important takeaway from this leak.

Let’s get to it.

Nike Engage Wedge

engage-wedge

Never has so much fuss been made over an accent color, and so given the inclusion of Nike’s electric volt in the metalwoods and iron lines, its absence from the wedge line is at least moderately interesting. Some of us may have to order some paint.

You can see the full specs in the chart below, so we won’t talk about that too much except to point out an apparent emphasis on customization. Laying out exactly how much the wedges can be bent is a new step for Nike. In fact, from end to end there’s at least the suggestion that Nike is finally committed to a real custom fitting program (more on that in a bit).

Last season’s Toe Sweep grind is joined by new dual sole option, which was apparently inspired by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. The grind suggests an extremely versatile high lofted wedge.

As a guy who’s generally classified as a digger (steep angle of attack with my wedges and irons), I’d like to see a bit more bounce, but with many of these grinds effective bounce differs from measured bounce, so I suppose we’ll have to wait until Nike gives us a little bit of a deeper dive.

Nike is going with a raw finish this time, which in addition to cutting glare, should appeal to the traditionalists who are currently wailing over the inclusion of volt in the rest of the lineup.

 2015 Method Putters

24-d8b2e7d46a

Quite frankly, I’m baffled by the 2015 putter lineup. With the company going full force with this volt thing, it’s particularly odd to me that the putter line retains the previous several generation’s Victory Red scheme.

What the hell, Nike?

Obviously that’s not a big deal (or any deal) where performance and playability are concerned, but given the cohesiveness of the rest of the 2015 lineup, the total lack of inclusion of volt (for better or worse) in the putter lineup is a noteworthy anomaly.

method-putters

The really cool MOD series continues on and will be joined by the new Method Converge and Method Matter line line. The Converge line is partiucularly interesting because of the inclusion of two Counterflex models.

Counterflex is Nike’s take on counterbalanced. What really stands out is an adjustment screw which allows the golfer to more precisely position the counterweight for presumably maximum benefit.

converage-spec

Once again, I’d like to take a moment to point out an emphasis on custom fitting that we’ve never seen before from Nike.

Nike Vapor Drivers

By now you’ve seen just about everything the driver lineup has to offer, but for the sake of all-inclusiveness, here’s another look at the 3 drivers Nike will offer in 2015.

The Most Important Slide in the Catalog

swing-weight-chart

A swing weight chart? Big deal, right? In an of itself it probably is not big deal, but one of the things that stood out to me at the Vapor Launch Event was a passing reference to Nike bringing out a Best In Class fitting solution.

Is this a hint of things to come? I sure as hell hope so.

Let’s put it out there right now. It would be wholly inaccurate for me to say Nike sucks at custom fitting at the consumer level, because that would imply Nike actually made any sort of effort at custom fitting consumers. It really hasn’t. Despite an outstanding selection of upgrade options at its disposal, Nike isn’t simply behind the fitting curve, it’s off it entirely.

That needs to be fixed.

Nike hasn’t provided any details yet, but should the company actually follow through and deliver a real fitting solution, we’ll be sure to bring you the details.

Shafts and Grips

Nike’s previous shaft upgrade policy was basically, if you want it, we can probably do it. For 2015 the company is doing a better job spelling things out. Here are the slides that cover shaft and grip options.

Nike’s 2015 Lineup is Legit

While some would probably argue it’s not saying much, Nike’s 2015 lineup is without question their best full line to date. Apart from a dwindling number of narrow-minded traditionalists who will revolt against volt, there really is something for everyone here.

We’ll have plenty more for you from Nike in the coming weeks and months as we believe the company is poised for a breakthrough year in the golf club market.

Am i the only one who’s noticed the ridiculous shaft lengths in the fairways? Who here wants to be hitting a 44inch 3 wood off the deck from a tight lie… seriously? Thats the first custom fit option sorted… please saw 3/4 of an inch of my 3 wood and reswingweight it..
Is it a bit silly aiming such long clubs at amateurs?

The consumer is his own worst enemy. The companies know it, the engineers know it, fitters know it. Nothing has led to more bad choices in equipment than indoor launch monitors.

      A. They are wrong. Period.
      B. Every player sees higher ball speed and swing speed, and that’s all they care about. As one of the best (if not THE best) wood designers currently working told me–we know that shorter and heavier is better. Good luck explaining that to a guy shooting 90-100 who sees the speed numbers go up on a LM indoors. They all say the same thing–“This year I’m really gonna practice. Go to the range, hit balls, take some lessons. The added length will be an enhancement.” No, you won’t practice. You won’t take lessons. You won’t work out or eat right. You won’t show up early and warm up before you play. You are a terrible golfer for a reason. The added length will only make it worse.

And now, we have to pay for the stupidity of the majority of golfers.

I’m not sure calling 90% of all the golfers stupid is fair golfercraig. Maybe naive or ignorant, but stupid? Everyone has “New Year Resolutions” when it comes to golf, whether it be lessons or more range time or fitness. Being a 10-11 hcp i am one that could really benefit from lessons because im honest with myself. Sometimes my fade turns into a horrible slice or sometimes my spin is way too high because i get too steep on my swing. But i also am lucky to golf 4 times a month. So forgive me and the majority if we would rather be outside hacking away then spending what little free time we have at lessons. I will never argue that lessons don’t help, but lets be real here. Lessons cost more then one round of golf usually and even if im not playing well, i still get great relief playing golf away from everything in my life. Its like fishing just because you don’t catch anything doesn’t mean you didn’t have fun. I don’t have to get a hole one, or drop it 3ft from the pin every time to enjoy golf. I think a lot of people think this way, not every golfer is trying to get on tour, sure everyone wants to be better at anything they do, but there is a certain amount of ROI to consider. Whether i took lessons or not i still have fun at the golf course. I don’t need to win money or break even or whatever, i will never have the time to get good enough to play consistently so why spend $500 on lessons when in reality it doesn’t get me ahead in life.

      So–my current gamer is a 12* R11s, with an Oban Tour Prototype v430 x-flex tipped 1/2″. I’ve found nothing better. 112-115 swing speed. It’s straight, it’s long, it’s forgiving.

I spent 36 holes with the Vapor Pro. Holeeee sheeeite. The R11s is a goner. The Vapor may not be measurably longer, but holy cow is it forgiving. Crazy forgiving. And the ability to tee it down, barely above the ground, and rip it down the middle waist high is something I’ve missed. I love this driver. I never thought I’d change. I even have 2 backup 12* heads in case I break my gamer. I’ve gone through 2 heads already. I’m seriously blown away.

A little surprised to see that there’s no Vapor equivalent of the Covert Forged line, which I thought was hands-down the best forged game-improvement head out there last year. For my tastes, anyways, it kicked the Mizuno JPX Forged’s butt, and edged out the Apex and AP2 on forgiveness.

I’d have picked a set up, but getting properly fit proved to be pretty much impossible. They really can’t be taken seriously by anyone but high and low handicap Rory wannabes until they get some fitting carts into stores and clubfitters’ shops.

I really like the line up, at first glance the wedges reminded of a futuristic version of the ping gorge wedge. I really hope the putter have a nice solid feel. To me the versa insert is the best feeling putter on the market but I love the ideal of the counter flex and had kind of thought after ping did the adjustable shaft length that we might see a weight bolt for counter balance (bravo nike). I read the earlier post about TM and Cally delusions, funny because ive been a cally guy for some time but am done with them starting next season. I will be testing the 915 and Vapor pro first then the wedges of both titleist and nike. I doubt my versa with my boccieri grip will leave my bag or my hex chrome plus balls (but I will test the RZNs im sure)

This is the first time to see a manufacturer’s swing weight guide. People should pay close attention to what they do to their clubs. Up until this year, I would choose a grip that was comfortable for me and go out and play.

Earlier this year, I started to notice that my driver didn’t have any snap to it so I measured the swing weight and low and behold it was at C5 when it should have been around D2 – D3. I replaced the grip with a Winn Dri Tac grip which was lighter than old grip and it brought it back to a D5. Needless to say the club now has more snap to it.

I don’t think most people (including myself) are not really aware of the impact changing the club’s grip or shaft length can do to the feel and playability of the club.

Hi I am in Australia, Queensland Gold Coast. I do tend to change my clubs often, I believe that I have found the set that I am currently using, however since looking at these beauties I would love to have or win a complete set of the Nike Vapor series. I am part of a big Kiwi social golf where people ask me about clunbs and the gear that I have on or using. I am not a pro so I don’t get sponsored, lol. If I waswas to have a free set of the Nike Vapors I am sure people that I play with once a week would definitely be encouraged to change. Until then if I am lucky to ever win a set of golf clubs, I will be content using my current set. Well done Nike on a fantastic looking set, I wish I could only afford to change again, but I can’t. My current set is all mixed with Ping G30 driver with after market Materix shaft, Titleist 910 fairway wood, Cobra bio cell irons on their way from US. Scotty Cameron Putter and Titleist Vokey wedges,

Kudos Nike – especially with the wedges! This line-up looks fantastic, and really hoping that you’re right about the focus on fitting. It’s really difficult to find Nike clubs here in Hawaii and I hate buying ‘sight unseen’, hoping maybe that may change.

I’m really excited about the wedges in particular… now to save the pennies.

NICE line! I really like the way there are three levels to choose from across the board. The look is great for the woods and irons. This is a very new look. For 6 years I played Nike Forged Blades and they gave me the purest feel at impact, I loved them and made a big mistake switching to cast clubs…I may have to dump my Callaway’s and go back to Nike for this new offering.

For Nike it looked more like one line of product. Their line up is considerably smaller than TMAG and CALLAWAY, think if TMAG only released Tour Preferred irons (CB, MC, MB variations) and SLDR driver (430, 360, Mini variations this year) and not SLDR iron, SpeedBlade, Jet Speed, etch.
