(Odyssey White Ice Putters for 2010)
A New Face Insert
Odyssey is known for making a great insert. Even for golfers that don;t like inserts…most likely Odyssey has made one that will feel good to you. But times are a changin’ in the golf equipment industry. And one of the big changes is in the golf ball industry. Because of the new changes to be made for grooves in wedges…golf ball manufacturers are going to be making the covers softer and softer to allow for better spin rates. This is great for the guys swinging the new wedges but not so great for the putter makers. And Odyssey seems to be one step ahead. They have made a new face insert for the White Ice Putter Series that will compensate for the changes in golf ball design…to allow for a more responsive feel.
A New Finish
The Odyssey White Ice series is sporting a new finish this year…it is a black nickel finish with a medium to heavy beadblast. The color is pretty rich but I am not a big fan of the beadblast. I would have preferred to see a lighter beadblast that does not produce such pits which can cause too much reflection coming off the surface of the putter. But the black and darker finishes are the in thing right now…so I get where they were going with the new finish.

Will the price point be more like the Black Series or the XG?
September 24th, 2009 at 7:31 am
Starting prices for the White Ice will be $129 as far as I know Jim.

This looks like the same stuff they’ve been making for years, just ice instead of hot….not impressed….
September 24th, 2009 at 7:32 am
I do agree Matt.

So, if ball covers are getting softer, does that mean that the Ice putter faces will be harder?
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Price will be closer to the current White Hot Tour line. I really like the direction they’ve taken with this… they moved away from the cross-hatch pattern on the insert, made it a little firmer for a more solid feel… and kept the weighting similar to the very well-made white hot tour line.
I’m excited for these to flood the market. Will be the best selling line this year. BY FAR.

Thanks for the pictures, MGS… hadn’t seen the sabretooth yet.

Thats what we are here for Chris
don’t sweat it.

I go back to DogBreath’s comment. So it has a “….more responsive feel” to compensate for softer cover. I assume that means harder insert. Sort of like, er, ah, stainless steel??????

The Ice #1 looks just like my DFX 3300 putter, but the ice sparkles.
September 25th, 2009 at 6:38 am
Bling…Bling.
September 24th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Like the looks but don’t expect me to run out and buy one, just not quite enough to sell these XG designs for a steeper price
September 24th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
same s**t different name? are odyssey jumping on the t/made bandwagon of renaming something just to make it seem new? I have a white hot #9 and seeing the new ice white doesn’t make me want to go change it.. the design is the same, the insert is diff… wheres the originality in that???

What happens if you get on a hot streak? Will your putter melt? From White Hot to Ice White weird…
September 25th, 2009 at 5:02 am
…will they release a Ice White Cube putter? They look nICE thou…
September 25th, 2009 at 5:42 am
Well, I like the finish on them, but I would like to see some updated designs from Odyssey. Maybe that will be in the future with the other models.
September 25th, 2009 at 6:41 am
I would as well CJ. I am surprised these designs continue to sell without the public demanding something new.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
I would take the lefty number right now if mygolfspy.com would like to give it a good home? I play 3 times a week and practice for 2 days so lets just say it would would have plenty room to run and I would never let it go hungry from lack of birdies or eagles
thanks for the always great posts MGS!!!!!

Your more then welcome Andrew. We have a bunch of new stuff coming soon so keep checking back. So much so we cant get it all up here for you guys to see. So we are having to launch a forum to get it all up.
September 26th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
I’m surprised how many of you guys are excited about these putters. It’s the same putter heads from the last generation with a slightly different face insert and some sparkle paint. With all the awesome putter companies MGS has promoted on this site, I would have thought these putters would have gotten harsher reviews. *shrug*
September 28th, 2009 at 10:42 am
As always it seems like I agree with you 100% Parker.
September 28th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Got to agree with you guys….Makes me feel like I want to go back to my Cash-In.
