Callaway Golf – New Driver Patents
Posted June 17, 2008 by GolfSpy XTrying To Change The Game Again
It has been a while since Callaway had as big of a hit driver as the Big Bertha. I still remember like it was yesterday when they released the Bertha and then the Biggest Big Bertha. Growing up I was always known for winning long drive competitions, winning more then I lost. But all of the sudden I found myself having a tough time beating some of the guys that were nearly twice my age and ones that had never even competed before. Why? Simple… at the time I did not have the money to buy a new driver and they did, and the driver they were all buying was the Callaway Biggest Big Bertha. And where most golf companies promises of extra yardage went unfulfilled the Callaway Biggest Big Bertha made good on their promise.
For the first time in golf you could miss a spot bigger then a dime on the face and still not lose any distance. It looked huge! Everyone made a big deal about how big the head was in comparison to the old (last years model) heads. Funny when you go back now and look at it, but at the time it was revolutionary. If you ever wonder why they started lengthening golf courses and making rough as high as the weeds in your back yard, look no further then the one club responsible…the “Big Bertha”.
Callaway Moves A Lot Of Weight
Well by the looks of all the patent activity coming out of Callaway, it looks like they are trying to get back to those glory days. And there is a definite trend among all these new driver patents being released…WEIGHTS. Big ones, small ones, moveable ones, slideable ones you name it they are moving it. Below are pictures of some of the recent patent applications Callaway has applied for.
