INTRODUCING: “Your Own Personal Golf Stylist!”

Allow me to introduce myself.  I am Kara.  Just about everyone calls me Kara Koo, Koo Koo or simply Koo.  It’s a family name, and yeah, some days it certainly fits.  You may have seen me around Twitter (@KaraKoo) or read my blog, Fairwaythreads.com.  If not, it is nice to meet you!

Let me fill you in on why I am here.

I am a men’s golf apparel guru.  I know what is new, hot and worn on tour, but I can also tell you what is new, hideous and to be avoided at all costs.  I have teamed up with my friends at MyGolf Spy to help save you from bad choices when it comes to golf apparel purchases.  Yes you.  You need my help in putting a great looking outfit together for the golf course because you are either clueless, too busy to shop, or you need to freshen up your look.  Either way, you need help, and there is no one more qualified to help you in this area than me.

Once again, it’s nice to meet you too.  Wink.  Now let’s get down and dirty before the majority of you tune me out.

Something For Everyone

In a few days, MyGolfSpy will be launching its first seasonal golf apparel buyers guide.  As your new “Personal Golf Stylist”, I will be hand-selecting 10 fabulous entire winter golf outfits with two choices each for five different styles of golfers: Bold, Classic, Trendy, Athletic and Traditional.

Huh?

Listen guys…in short, there will be at least two complete outfit choices for each one of you.  We will be selecting and showing you photos of all these options on a model from every angle so you don’t even have to try it on.  Oh, and one more thing.  You can click to immediately buy these entire outfits from our online retail partner FairwayStyles.com, without ever having to go out and shop.

Boom!  Love me yet?

Sitting around bored and want to know more about why we are doing this, why you should listen to me and also crave more of my wit and charm?  Read on…

Life can get hectic can it not?  Constant commitments, full workloads, busy social calendars and so many important games to catch that the DVR is about to explode!  Even our homes are so chaotic that we have to leave our “haven of rest” to get some peace.  I get it.

Life Is About To Get Easier

At this very moment I am at the local public library.  Yes, the library.  Doubtful that many fashion bloggers frequent the library, but I had to write this somewhere I could think.  So here we are, and I must say, it is quiet.  Anyway, speaking of mass chaos, how about shopping areas on the weekend?  Fun huh?  Traffic, kids everywhere, clueless sales associates, inadequate inventory and confusion.  Like you even know what looks good anyway, right? Want to avoid that mess?  Sit back.  Let us do the work for you.  Life is about to get much easier my friends.

As a man, you likely hate shopping for several of the reasons I listed above.  However, as a golfer, you know it is important to look good on the golf course, which requires shopping. Please tell me you know that what you wear matters?  I know that you probably pay more attention to how you perform, than how you look, but come on, men still love attention.

The fact is, you will get more attention by putting some effort into making sure what you wear looks good.  People see the clothing on your body before you ever open your mouth.  Snap judgments are made.  The reality is people will automatically respect you more if you are dressed sharply, whether that is fair or not.  If you reflect pride, confidence and style, others will be drawn to you.  Plus, a fashionable man is instantly more attractive and well-received by women.  What you wear matters.  Period.

In that case, why DON’T you care more about what you wear?  The truth is, most men (I said most) are lazy and don’t want to take the time to put a nice looking outfit together.  They find a comfortable style that they like, and they stick with it.  It never crosses their mind to wear something different and unique.  Men usually hate the process of shopping and they don’t like a lot of choices.  They tend to shop at the same retailers and purchase the same brands, whatever it takes to end the task of shopping as quickly as possible. “Dammit she has me pegged!”

This is why I want to take care of two problems for you, all at once. I will put entire great looking outfit choices together for you each season that will compliment your style, and allow you to purchase these outfits from home.  I know…I truly am amazing.

The Winter Buying Guide is Coming Soon

As I mentioned above, starting this winter, MyGolfSpy will be creating seasonal golf apparel buying guides for you to simply “click and choose” your golf wardrobe.  We will be partnering with FairwayStyles.com, one of the finest online golf retailers, and offering the best brands in the industry.  You will be able to see how each outfit will look before making your picks, because we will try it on for you.  Yeah, I am helping you avoid the dreadful dressing room too.

Sound good, or do you need a few solid reasons to trust me first?  Why should you listen to me, when it comes to golf fashion?

Here are just a few reasons to ease your mind:

:: I am a woman- I probably have a better eye for fashion than you do (I said probably)
:: I am a woman- no offense, but do you want a man telling you what will make you look good?
:: I am not afraid to give you my opinion, tell you the truth or call it exactly as I see it (hold on tight)
:: I know golf- what you need on the course, what will perform and what will not
:: I know the golf apparel industry – the offering of apparel companies and what makes each unique
:: Basically every guy I know, asks for my opinion on what to wear – they trust me and you can too.

kara-3

So, let’s do this!

In just a few short days, the “MyGolfSpy Winter Golf Apparel Buyers Guide” will be released.  Starting to breathe easier? You will soon feel that life is a little less complicated.   Now all you will have on your “to-do list” is setting up that weekend tee time.  You can handle that of course.  I can’t do everything for you.

It’s always fun to observe the commentary on MGS, especially for this post! As an old soldier who is most happy when wearing functional clothing, I’ll probably stick to my “style”…but I’m glad to see Kara’s willingness to expand our horizons! Besides, in my experience anyone wearing dogtags is usually okay.

Guys if you have a sense of style, and no interest, then don’t read it. It’s like anything else in life. If you’re unsure, then follow the conversation and read what everyone else says so you’ll have a variety of opinions. I’ve golfed in many, many tournaments and some guys (same goes for women) are clueless. Some want help. Some don’t know they need it. And some dress for success. It couldn’t hurt and it just might help.

Dude, if you are a guy, please don’t say “we” because a rude, insecure clown like yourself speaks for no one else on this board, except yourself. And I don’t recall seein your posts in any other threads either in the blog or the forum, so please believe me when I say that if your number of future posts mirror your past, well, everyone would be better served.

And speaking of Grandmothers As I was raised by my Grandmother and she impressed in me early that if I did not had something nice to say to someone, ESPECIALLY a Lady, then to keep my mouth shut and extracate myself from the situation as quickly as possible as a Gentleman would.

You would be best served to think about that.

You obviously think that your reponse was clever & witty, however it was nothing more than insecure, mean spirited garbage.

As the computer provides protection to cowards like yourself when in fact if you were to walk into a room and Kara and her friends from the pic above were in that room, you are like perfect example of the little guy who stands against the wall with your other nerdy little man friends, staring at Kara & wondering what it would be like to talk to Attractive women like Kara and her friends, LMAO.

And I’m just curious, what kinda man knows about warmer softer hair streaks and Robin Hood’s blue slippers?

Nah Dude, your pathetic little post will eventually end up where it belongs- burried in the bowels of MGS.

However, just as your last sentence had a request of Kara, so too does mine of you-

Please, and no I’ll will intended, though, would you please make yourself as scarce in the future as you have in the past?

Let’s see, fashion advice from someone who seems to be wearing black baggy flared rain pants a size too big with a summer top that doesn’t fit in the shoulders, dog tag necklace on a too thick chain and tortoise shell glass frames like my grandmother’s that don’t fit the face. And what are those shoes? Robin’s egg blue slippers? And some low lights in your hair for a warmer softer color would really help.

We are not all 12 year olds here, seems like you are talking down to us, be more professional, please.

Thanks for reading Dean! Just a note on my look in the pict of me at the WGC Matchplay in AZ. Black J-Crew flared leg chinos, gray Anthropologie capped-sleeve top (cut to fit that way), Ralph Lauren sunglasses that were fitted for me by a stylist actually, and the shoes were silver Sperry Top-Siders. I wear Sperrys when I go to golf events because they are super comfy and won’t rub blisters. As for a necklace, I am not wearing one. I am however, wearing my Daddy’s AF issued ID tag and chain. Have worn it daily since his passing. It ALWAYS goes with what I am wearing. :)

I have to agree with those comments that find this offensive in the manner presented. Having successfully been able to dress myself since early childhood and having successfully selected my own apparel for work, leisure and all other purposes for my adult life, I do not think I now need Kara Koo to dictate what I wear based on her prejudices. What age group, body style, budget and other factors do you plan to consider. The pro tour is not the arbiter of elegance or design. If you think otherwise, you are either deluded or caught in the if I dress like one, I’ll play like one fantasy. My style is dictated by my tastes, my age, my body shape, where I play and how I play. There are adequate retailers to accommodate everyone’s taste, budget and personal style. Frankly this sounds strictly like a shill for a specific retailer. This is strictly a case of creating a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist except in some marketer’s mind. Just curious, but what is the relationship between Kara Koo and the Golf Spy. It sounds very much like trying to make points with a person of interest..

NEF, I truly believe, as Kara stated, that her post and comments were said with humor and in a light hearted manner. Though I too dress myself, I most certainly can use a larger selection to choose from than my club or the three or four others that I play in a season’s time.

And while I have absolutely nothing to do with MGS, having been a forum member here for 2 1/2+ years, never once, not a single time, has Golf Spy X ever brought in an individual or company that conducted themselves in any way other than the most appropriate manner. He’s good people, as are the other other spys, the sponsoring companies and I have no doubt Kara is also.

All MGS does is give ya choices and options. Ya wanna take advantage of em, great, if not, that’s ok too. Kara, nor X, MGS or anyone else on this site is in any position to “dictate” anything to you, much less what to wear.

I could care less, as I’m sure most of the guy’s who’ve posted here, whether Kara’s one of the Spy’s wife(relax, I know she’s not). Doesn’t matter. You don’t wanna utilize her or her services fine. That’s your’s and every other individual’s choice.

Like Zinger said, she’s good peeps.

It’s hard ta tell from your username if you’re male or female, however if you’re female, Kara would definitely be the individual to go to. If you’re a male, and to just expand on Kara’s comment, there are a few viariables involved. #1, whether there is a distinction between a “casual” round and a “business” depends on how you dress for both.

#2, would be what type of business round, as in who’s in your group? Are your playing partners co-workers? line or two up superiors/supervisors? Senior mgt(Sr. VP’s, CEO, COO, etc)? Or are they clients or potential clients?

The simplest and safest wardrobe selection regardless of whom your partners are is traditional. While a navy blue, black or grey pair of golf slacks or bermuda shorts(when in Rome, dress as the Romans, so if you’re an employee & if the Sr. execs where slacks, my advice would be to wear slacks, cuz the simple fact of human nature is that we tend to gravitate to, befriend and work with those that are like us, and yes, this includes dress) and a nice contrasting solid or striped shirt may not win you any dress awards, I can promise you that it won’t cost you a job, promotion or potential business.

Business is money, money is serious, and Sr. executives, business owners & clients like to suround themselves with serious people. If you wanna make a statement, stand out or show that you’re an individual and not a corporate sheep, wait until ya don’t need the corporation & own you own company, cuz then you can dress however the hell ya want.

      Great point G4L!!

And ya opened my eyes with the comment about another opinion, and not so much for the “other” opinion, cuz when I want that, I just look in the mirror. However another set of eyes would be great cuz really, 80-85% of my shirts come from either my pro shop or those of the other clubs that I visit with the swats.

Let’s face it, #1, that’s a pretty small selection of shirts compared to what’s on the web and #2, it also has limitations style wise. While I would classify myself as more traditional, obviously with pink shirts, I can stay “traditional” from a design standpoint, yet add color to my wardrobe.

Thanx for openin my eyes, lol!

I saw it as a light hearted article and even chuckled a few times. I have just started wearing decent golf clothes, and to be honest, I could have saved myself a lot of money by focusing on style first. Yeah, I was one of those guys wearing basketball nike shorts and a t-shirt on the course. Now I have like 15 golf shorts that I rarely touch because they dont match with anything nicely. I’m still buying, and buying, and buying. to sych an extent that my wife is now asking me to throw stuff out (that I may have worn once if at all!). So I commend the effort. I’m awful at dressing myself. I’m colorblind and happily married. I stopped caring when I signed my life over to my wife and son. It’s fun to dress in bright colors when I play golf and that’s the only reason why I pick the shirts that I do. I look for stuff that I’d enjoy wearing or something that would start a conversation and I go with that.

I say, if you wanna dress like a clown to get some laughs out of people then go for it. If you wanna dress to the nines to impress the ladies, then go for that. She’s having some fun giving us some apparel considerations, and her selections actually look really good. I had a chance to preview some, and she does a great job with this. We’re lucky to have her on board, and she’ll really bring some value to the apparel content.

To be honest, I am as perfect as you’ll find in a man. Just ask me. But, her ideas on clothes have had sense to me. Things I would never buy on my own, but look good when paired. Granted, with a temple like this as a foundation, I can’t really screw it up. Regardless, she really has a talent for men’s clothing.

With that said you are correct in the fact you always want to more than likely get a women’s opinion when it comes to fashion.
but i think vice versa work when it comes to women want to know a man’s opinion.

Randy. You are one of my best friends so you A) Know I have great style and B) Know I think you always look great too…so hush! :) (Plus when do I ever man bash?! I am such a tom boy that I would be bashing myself in so many ways if I did attempt to do so!)

I’m thinking I’m going to be in the minority here, but I’m almost offended after having read that. This was the most condescending article I’ve ever read on MGS, I had a hard time forcing myself to actually read through to the end.

Look, I appreciate the assist on the sense of style and outfit choices, but if you really want me to pay attention then stop with the man bashing. You make it seems like 99% of us have NO clue what we are doing when we put on clothes in the morning. It’s really not that hard to match a shirt to a pair of shorts or pants.

Hopefully the follow up contributions can be written a little more positively.

LMAO, Bro, I’m right there with ya in that satorial minority, though I do like Kara’s wit & light hearted style. I love to shop, be it for a driver or a shirt, lol. While I will wear shorts on the practice tee/putting green(Bermuda, not cargo, lol), I wear only slacks on the course and 90% of them are cuffed. If I wear them, they’re in style :). I favor navy or black the majority of the time though I will occasionally wear khaki.

My fave color is pink, and I have 44 pink shirts, from solids & thin stripes to foulards and soft paisley. Other than pink, I’m not into the neon look, favoring red, blues, Greg’s & black. My “go to” final tourney round/big match pairing is black slacks/pink shirt. HaHa, not to encroach into Zinger’s territory, though whatever my choice whenI hit the course, I make the clothes look good, lol.

However I’m sure that there are quite a few guys that can definitely use your expertise, and I hope that they’re open minded. I’m amazed at what I see show up on the first tee and there’s no way in hell their wives/significant others saw em, cuz they’d never let em outa the house much less walk onto a tee. And I’m sure more than a few looked in the mirror and said, “Damn, I look good.” LMAO

Well Kara, I wish ya the very Best

All I can say to Kara is that you’ll be in my prayers. Good luck trying to make us look presentable – that will be a challenge.

This is a great idea – I’m going to put one of these outfits high on my Christmas wish list.
