PING G20 Driver – Raw Data

From the time we cooked up this ULTIMATE REVIEW system we’ve talked about not only the importance of actual data, but the importance of actually being able to show that data with our readers.   What you see below is data for each and every shot that our 6 golfers took during the testing process for the PING G20 Driver.

You can move from Raw Data to our driving range map by selecting the Shot Map tab.By now many of you are aware that hovering over any point on the map will give you all the pertinent details of that particular shot.  Raw averages were compiled for each and every piece of data we culled from our simulators.  If the screen looks a bit cluttered for your taste you can simply de-select any golfer to remove his data from the charts.

On each of the bar graphs, we include two reference lines.  The dotted gray line will always represent the average for all golfers for whom we collected data.  The dotted black line represents the averages for only those golfers you select. This way you are able to quickly see how the numbers from an individual, or sub-set of testers compares to both each other and the testing group as a whole.  We also include sliders which allow you to filter golfers based on driver swing speed and handicap.

What to Look For

Apart from the raw distance, a couple of things really stand out about the PING G20. Comparatively speaking spin numbers (both backspin and sidespin) are significantly lower than what we’re accustomed to seeing from the drivers we test. If you need to reduce spin, the G20 absolutely has to be on your short list.

We also observed that the G20 produced slightly higher average ball speeds, and better overall launch conditions. As the chart shows, the consistency score was dragged down a bit because two of our testers struggled to produces the same result. For the other golfers in our test group, however, the consistency numbers range from above average to outstanding.

Finally, as you can see from the shot map, Tim hit a drive that traveled only 115 yards. While the high and low shots are always removed when we calculate scores, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t have a little laugh at Tim’s expense. If we look at Dan’s best, and Tim’s worst, we see that Dan outdrove him by 184 yards.
