NEW! – Ping Putter Patent (Guess The Name?)

Posted January 13, 2010 by mygolfspy

ping-patent-banner-1

Another Wack-E Design From Ping?

Ping has never been known for having the sleekest looking putters.  Even when Karsten first came out with the Anser and many of his other popular putters…golfers were sometimes taken back by how strange they looked.  But they worked…they helped golfers get the ball in the hole quicker and that was all that was needed to change peoples opinions about how they looked.  Now the Anser is looked at as one of not only the best performing putters of all-time but also the sleekest looking.  Amazing how results can change ones mind about looks.

Guess The Name Of This New Putter

Ping has had some pretty crazy names to go along with some of these crazy ideas they have for their putters.  They range from the Wack-e to the Craz-e to the Zing.  But this putter in my opinion is the wildest one I have ever seen from them.  So maybe they will name Wild-e…who knows.  So I thought you guys might like to try and guess the name they use for this putter if it makes it to the stores…never know the Ping guys who read this might just use it ;)

P.S. – (So…what do you think the name will be?)

Just what we need in the shop. More gimmicky, stupid looking junk pushed on us by the OEM’s. How about the OEM’s come up with something that works for a change. I don’t mind spending money on bringing products that WORK… but to spend money on worthless junk has to stop by the OEM’s. I see it from a business point of view as a waste of money. I will be going to the PGA Show and half the stuff being showed there should be put into a dumpster.. right with this abortion

you gotta feel for people like garry that work in retail and have to carry garbage like this in their shop., and dont even think about giving a discount on a ping product no matter how bad of a seller it is because.ping will suspend your account in a new york minute. my old shop had it happen. hopefully this joke wont make it to production.

I couldn’t sleep last night, thinking about this one. Just imagine if this putter sinks putts… The answer to making putts has been in the bottom of the hole for atleast 100 years and in 2010, it was realized. The answer was right under our noses every time we bent down to pull our ball out of the cup. Dang, that just burnz…

Comment by mygolfspy

January 14th, 2010 at 10:29 am

Well I hope you did not really lose sleep Burnz.

I guess they assumed the visual of a mallet looking like the cup as an alignment aid would be of value.

I think this suckers going to be called the PING Wack-O, just like the designer… I wonder if the shaft will be black and yellow and have a little flag on the grip as an alignment aid? I see this putter in Miguel Angel Jimenez’s and Lee Westwood’s future LOL! It’s going to have a massive headcover.

Drain-O which is what you’ll be drinking after your opponents laugh at you. It must have O in the name. We complain about all the anser models I knew PING wouldn’t let us down LOL! It looks a cross between a bio-hazard warning, a film reel and a cup. With the Odyssey Backstryke models it’s going to be a good year for crazy looking putters.

Comment by mygolfspy

January 19th, 2010 at 3:21 pm

I actually have used and like the technology that will be used in the Odyssey Backstryke putters. Do you remember the Pool Putter?

mygolfspy or chris-
alright you got me ,what is this odyssey backstrike and what’s it look like. i’d thought i’d seen callaway’s 2010 line which included the black tour series and stupid white ice putters. we’d love pictures if you got them!

Comment by mygolfspy

They have a few models of the BackStryke’s but they have all have the same theory of the shaft coming in to the back of the head. The best analogy I can give is similar to shooting pool. When you shoot pool you are behind the ball and can see the whole landscape better and also visualize your shot better then if you had your head directly above the cue ball and tried making shots. There was a PoolPutter that came out about 10 years ago that had this concept which was designed by a guy in Sweden just never made it mainstream but I putted great with it.

I will try to get some pics for you guys.

U.S.G.A. RULES- APPENDIX ll #4a/PLAIN IN SHAPE= THE CLUBHEAD AND/OR IT’S PARTS CAN NOT BE MADE TO RESEMBLE ANOTHER OBJECT. does this design look like anything to you! i still dont know how callaway/odyssey got the 2/3 ball putter approved and im not going to speculate but how can this thing be even close to conforming. it’s damn near a training aid!!!

The only thing that comes to mind us “Ug-le” ! I also have my doubts the thing would be easy to align. The “blade” of the putter seems to disappear into the circle. I, for one anyway, would feel like I was trying to put with a baseball bat.
