New Futura Putters from Scotty Cameron Have Even Bigger Heads
“It’s innovative, it’s elegant, it’s high-tech. It’s everything put into one” – Scotty Cameron

Scotty Cameron fans, particularly fans of Cameron’s Futura X family have cause for celebration today as Titleist has announced 3 new additions to the Scotty Cameron putter family. Along with the allure that often comes with just being a Scotty, the new designs feature several bits of technology that should make these new mallets particularly intriguing.

FUTURA X7 Key TECHNOLOGY

We’ll dig into the specifics of each model in just a moment, but first, let’s take a quick look at some features that are common to each of the new models.

Larger Club Heads – Bigger heads mean higher MOI, which translates to more consistency, even on off-center hits.

Multi-Material Construction – No, we’re not talking about the first un-metal putter. Multi-material doesn’t always mean composite. This particular incarnation of multi-material construction refers to what Titleist calls a Face-Sole Core (aluminum) surrounded by a 303 stainless frame. As you can probably guess, the design helps push weight back and to the perimiter for increased stability.

According to Titliest, the five connection points between the aluminum core and the stainless body feature vibration dampening technology, which helps make these new models the softest feeling in the Futura X family.

Easy Alignment – The larger head sizes of the X7 and X7M provided Scotty Cameron with more alignment options than previous models.

“X7 and X7M are more forgiving, better sounding, better feeling and better performing products What we are building today was not done five years ago. The technology, machinery and computers to design and the milling machines to create are limitless. Now it comes down to sound, feel and performance – and we’ve got it. The best players in the world are going to the X7 and X7M.” – Scotty Cameron

Individual Models

FUTURA X7

Back_FX-7 HERO_FX-7

The shape of the X7 is what Titleist and Scotty Cameron call a wingback mallet. The shape is actually identical to the Futura X5, but it’s 10% larger. That extra size allowed for the addition of both vertical and horizontal sight lines.

FUTURA X7M

x7m-back x7m-laydown

The X7M is a bar-back mallet designed to push even more weight to the back of the putter. Alignment is achieved through a new “pop-through rail system” that’s that’s made possible by the face-sole core.

Actually, I really dig the Scotty’s. Yes, pricey, but very well made. They also hold their value. However, I’ve heard that he is arguably one of the most arrogant, self-centerd turds to his fans. One local fan, the manager at my neighborhood driving range, has 10s of thousands of dollars in Sotty Putters, headcovers, etc. Needless to say, he’s a big fan. Well, during a trade show he asked Mr. Cameron for a picture and told him he was a big fan. Scotty responded, “I don’t do pictures.” while walking away and never acknowledging the guy. Gotta love that from a guy who routinely gets near a hundo for a damn headcover. Could it have been a bad day? Sure! Sadly, however, it’s not the only story I’ve heard. Plus, IT WAS A TRADE SHOW! It wasn’t like Scotty was approached while trying to piss.

Anyway, despite the stories, I still buy the occasional Scotty because they are superb putters. It’s just disappointing when someone who believes in “The art of putting.” forgets what helped “make” him…CUSTOMERS. Perhaps review “The art of customer service” Now that is a lost art.

I’ve had many over the years, and am still a fan. I’ve gotten to meet him a few times, and he was very personable and made time to discuss golf and putters, beyond the normal chit chat. That’s been my experience anyway.

I play the Futura 7 after playing the Newport milled among most Odessy styles. The mallet for my body style, 6’4″ is a consistent accurate roll. Been playing for 57 years and this Scotty is the best balanced and touch conscise feel that I’ve had the pleasure of placing in my bag. At 68 I am a 3 handicapper. The new 7m is interesting. I am anxious to give It a try. Yes, pricey but I’m not worried about taking it with me. :)

Love to have one, but I am not paying $300 to $400 for any putter.

I felt that way about the price too, but when you realize that almost half the strokes of your score come from putting, why wouldn’t it be worth the same amount you would pay for a top of the line driver, which will only account for at most 14 swings per round?

they look great and i’m sure they’re great putters, but there’s no way i can justify the price tag. i don’t think i’d putt 2 or 3 or 4 times better by paying 2 or 3 or 4 times as much.
