Tested: Bruce Sizemore ‘MORE’ Wedge
Bruce Sizemore offers up a hyper-adjustable wedge, but does it perform?

Bruce Sizemore, most recently known for SuperStroke’s putter line, is back with his latest creation, the hyper-adjustable MORE wedge. The MORE wedge is among the most unusual… hell, let’s call it what it is, the most unusual design we’ve ever tested… and let’s not forget we tested the PowerPod II.

While its distinct look will surely grab your attention, it’s the wedges unmatched adjustment capabilities that really set it apart.

SIZEMORE-HERO

There’s little doubt that the MORE wedge is the most adjustable, and I suppose most customizable wedge on the market today. To say there’s nothing like it would be the understatement of the decade.

Here’s a rundown of what makes the new Sizemore wedge inarguably unique.

MORE Wedge Features

IMG_7706

Adjustable loft – Three distinct hosel adapters allow you to adjust loft from 47° to 61°. The Sizemore wedge’s unique ball and socket adapter design allow allows face angle to remain constant even as loft is adjusted.

Adjustable Bounce – Primary bounce angles can be adjusted from 4° to 14° with both vertical and diagonal adjustments.

Interchangeable Sole Grinds – Swappable flanges will allow you to select a grind that works best for your swing and the current course conditions.

Interchangeable Faces – Replaceable faces ensure you can always have fresh grooves.

The multi-metal wedge is built from Stainless Steel, Aerospace Grade Aluminum, and a Copper-Tungsten Blend.

Sizemore vs. The Competition

sizemore-feature-chart

Apart from adjustability, what does all this Sizemore technology get you? Bruce Sizemore is making some fairly bold claims about his new wedge.

Here’s what he’s saying his MORE wedge brings to the table.

The Most Spin – Bruce told us the MORE wedge can achieve upwards of 2000 RPM more spin that other wedges.
Higher Launch – For some this is desirable. Others may prefer a flatter, more-boring trajectory.
A Properly Centered CG – It’s not unusual for wedge Center of Gravity locations to be a bit heel-centric. Bruce Sizemore claims the CG locations of his wedges are in the middle of the face.

How We tested

sizemore-vs

To determine if the Sizemore MORE wedge lives up to its billing, we hit a prototype of the wedge side by side against the following wedges:

sizemore-FACE

For each each tester we recorded 12 good, full-swing, shots with each wedge.

The Data

sizemore-data-1

Focusing on the areas where the most notable claims were made, we find that the Sizemore wedge was not far off the leader, and the peak trajectory was the highest. Spin was the lowest for the 4 wedges tested.

For those concerned with wedge distance, the MORE wedge produced the most head and ball speed, which translated into 3 yards of additional distance when compared to the next longest wedge.

sizemore-data-2

For our second tester, the MORE wedge again failed to live up to its promise of higher spin. For this tester, launch was the lowest, while peak height was one of three that hit 27 yards.

The wedge was again the longest, producing an additional 3 yards of carry and 4 yards of total distance over the next longest.

Suffice it to say, while there’s an argument to be made supporting higher launch, we most definitely didn’t experience significantly higher spin.

Additional Observations

sizemoe-heel

  • During our test, a higher percentage of shots hit with Sizemore wedge started and finished right of target. We’d need to dig deeper, and look at things like face and lie angle to determine the root cause.
  • When soled on turf, the Sizemore wedge has a tendency to roll open. We believe our testers may have altered their setups while trying to compensate.
  • The design features a notch of sorts cut from the heel side of the club. The resulting lower edge from the cutaway has a tendency to catch on the turf as the club is being taken away.

Final Thoughts

SIZEMORE-FACE-CLOSE

For $400 we’d expect a wedge to show a clear performance advantage. That wasn’t the case here, though we should note that we tested only a single shot type (full swing), and our sample still qualifies as a prototype. Final tweaks remain, and with some smoothing out of rough edges (both literal and figurative), the final version of the Sizemore MORE wedge will certainly get some additional looks and a more thorough test to determine if an abundance of adjustability is worth the abundance of extra money.

Is this thing even legal to use in competition – There are those who say the grooves have to be parallel ?

      yeah….. no thanks.

It can’t be adjusted mid round, that is illegal. So spending 4Benjamins on one club that can not replace all my wedges, even if it wasn’t hideous and worked like a charm, just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Thanks for doing this review – this is the type of information we care about. I was pretty disappointed with the introductory article that just talked ‘manufacturer hype’.
It confirms what we all suspected – it’s NOT worth the extra money – adjustability or not.

I’m afraid whoever his investors are will be VERY disappointed and found they gave away a lot of money for nothing in return – except some overstocked clubs.

Looks like one of those adjustable irons from Brookstone and an exoskeleton from Avatar had a love child.

Is there a particular reason we’re supposed to give a rat’s ass about extra distance in a wedge?

I liked Steve S idea, find a Mizuno MP-T10. No chance that I would buy the $400 odd looking ‘More’ wedge, but I went on eBay and looked around and I was able to find a brand new (LH) Mizuno MP-T10 56* for $43.19 delivered. Looking forward to trying it out. Thanks MGS!

Sorry but it’s just too ugly to even try, add to that it’s price tag, makes it a loser. The false marketing claim of 2000 rpm’s puts the stake in it’s heart.

All clubs are built to a tolerance, they are all built as close to these perimeter as they possibly can be…the spin a wedge generates is also tested to a certain limit, so it’s not like your going to find it performing massively more dramatically than any other on the market!

I wonder how Sizemore determined the 2000 RPM increase? Robot testing? I also wonder how it would perform if all the wedges were set up the same for loft, bounce, grooves and grind (or at least as close as possible).
Yes this thing looks like dynobot, but with all of the different shapes, grooves, and even wedge shafts ( hi-rev or spinner maybe?) it’s kinda hard to compare them directly.
Yes it’s $400 and i could buy a whole set of clubs for the cost, but setting that HUGE ISSUE aside, these wedges are almost too different to compare.

He tried to force that same aesthetic with his putters that failed. It’s too strange. Strange can be good and end up changing the market, but his aesthetic style was already tested with his putters and it failed.

I can’t even imagine someone purchasing this wedge. You can buy 3 Vokey SM5 wedges for less than the cost of this extremely hard to look at contraption. A club should instill confidence, this thing would haunt me in my dreams!

That is the ugliest wedge and for 400. Wouldn’t put it in the bag. However, the adjustable wedge with a hosel adjustment only would be better.

Yep. There is no value here at all unless it costs the same (or barely more) than a Vokey. I’m not paying $400 for a club I can only use as one wedge per round. The reality is that it doesn’t replace all wedges, but just one – the one you choose. Yes you can change that each round, but really, who’s that good where they could get value out of changing bounce each round? Anyone that is, already had fitted wedges.

I wouldn’t play this wedge if they give it to me and paid me 400 to play it. Looks give me confidence in a club. This wedge would have me having none.

Nice work. Different bounce for conditions is a nice idea but for the money I can just buy different sets. More spin and height on full shots that I don’t need and the club doesn’t deliver thanks for data backed research. I would love to see vendor reply.

This wedge is the same as marrying an ugly lady that can’t cook or clean! If you give up looks there needs to be some inherent benefits. The only reason the wedge is longer is because you get less spin.

Hacks, with money love to be the first in the club to have the latest regardless of how it looks, whether it works or not, just to be first. Usually the expensive clubs and accessories are beyond their lack of ability, but no problem, I am the first to have this toy.
