      Hi Tony,

With al, the ranting and raving going on I believe an idea for a new article has been born. Does an upgraded shaft make a difference in club performance and how much?

You could do the testing in the same manor you do the “most wanted” series. I would love to know if a $700 shaft will get you more distance and or accuracy.

I have never used anything but the stock shafts, because I simply don’t know enough about them to make an intelligent decision. I did at one point own a Krank 5 driver which came with an upgraded shaft. But that driver was replaced this year by Cobra Fly Z with a stock shaft.

      Thanks for all you do!

undershooter 30 he was referencing to the shaft being better than other shafts out there with the this driver that you or I can get lie a diamana , I know a 700 dollar or any expensive shaft plays better than the crap 10 dollar shafts TM puts in their heads. He mentioned it when he responded to me , I know he didnt say it in his post you idiot. You mentioned the drivers are maxed out thats true, but how come I hit my 1997 titleist titanium driver just as far as my currant callaway ft9 tour driver which came out in 09, and that driver is maxed out just like the ones today, and my freind hits his old cally great big bertha farther than his new TM r11, with by the way same shaft, lets see you dance around those facts. Your the clueless ASS that buys into all this crap. The only thing you said that made sense is that you wouldnt buy an 800 dollar driver.

Why are you so bitter? You just rant all over the place, we’re all here to talk about golf equipment and the latest products. It’s supposed to be fun, we’re not trying to cure cancer here. Take it easy and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Tony covey if you think any shaft is worth that than you need help , that shaft will not make you play any better than a diamana or fuji shaft real ones that is you go on and on abt this crap being worth the money they charge and the simple FACT is its not even close to being worth what they charge, I know WAY more abt golf equipment than you will EVER know, Ive been around it and worked with it my whole life so dont tell me what you think is worth it . All golf equipment is way way overprised to what it cost to make and what you accually think its going to do to help yr game. A good player can use irons that came out in the 70s and still play just as well with todays over priced irons which cost practically nothing to make. I know without a dought in my mind and I would bet my condo that a titleist titanium driver from 1997 with an E i 70 SHAFT THAT CAME WITH EM BACK THEN WOULD PLAY NO DIFFERENT THAN THIS 800 DOLLAR JOKE, And you just cant except that those are the facts abt golf clubs, you just want to show off and describe how great and different these new clubs are cuzz thats yr job, WHY DONT YOU JUST WAKE UP TO REALITY THAT ITS TALENT NOT THIS CRAP. I come on here to read and laugh and roll my eyes at this crap you feed to these guys and I get a kick out of it otherwise I wouldnt read this stuff, and also warn people abt the racket that is the golf equipment industry just like are wars are country gets in nothing but a racket.

Did you even read Tony’s post? He never said the shaft was or wasn’t worth 700. He just stated the fact that 700 is the retail price of the shaft. That is a fact not an opinion. This shaft is also not available for the R15 regularly(fact). At no point in Tony’s article or post did he say he thought this was a good deal or that we should all go out and buy one. The whole point of the article was asking what we thought about it. Personally I don’t care because I won’t ever pay $800 for a driver. And Ron you would 100% lose your condo on that bet. They hadn’t maxed out the COR in 1997 so physics say you would be wrong. Get off your high horse…. You may or may not know a lot about golf equipment but your post makes you sound like a clueless ass.

I would like to see this type of stuff expanded much further. More in mind with the Titleist 915D4 Driver. There are no stock versions, can only order specially. The head is supposed to be made to fit a small % of people. I would love to see that type of club making in the future.

Not any crazier than Rory’s putter selling out. Especially since the driver isn’t different from the others including mine. Minus new paint. Then again it does have that tour wonderfully expensive aldila shaft lol!

I think it is a very nice driver, my friend has a R15 with an upgraded shaft, I can say that the driver is great even though I use a different one. The driver looks really cool, very patriotic and a nice thing specially with 4th of July right around the corner. Regarding the price, I would say is a fair deal, the driver has a lot more details to it and an upgraded shaft, which they are rather expensive and it is limited edition. So it is a nice club and a nice piece for collectors.

Actually its not the “same as the other R15 drivers”. It is a decent deal and the little add ons are a nice touch. Being a usa themed driver along with the individual numbering is pretty cool. That shaft alone is big money! Hating just to hate huh?

It’s actually a pretty good deal with that shaft, which costs around $700 on its own.

Just proves some people have more money than common sense . the driver head and shaft ids no different than any other r15 , this is who TM feeds on morons of the golf world and i certainly have ZERO respect for. I dont know why i bother looking at this crap my god I must have more time on my hands than i thought.

Ron, while I always appreciate your rants, there’s a bit of an inconsistency to them. Usually you rail against stock shafts and what not, and yet here we are…a case where TaylorMade is using a shaft with a retail price of $700 (quibble about that bit if you’d like) in a driver with an $800 retail price tag. Seems to me what you’re largely paying for here is the shaft, and more to the point, to say the shaft “is no different than any other R15”, is 100% factually inaccurate.

I like limited edition. However, majority of those that take them (due to small quantities) are resellers or collectors, so in reality, the people that would get them and use them more on the course have no access.

If it sells then absolutely, the public are saying they want that type of thing.

I’m surprised it doesn’t have a Star-Spangled Banner trailing from the back of the shaft and a noise-activated speaker in the grip that screams “Merka! Yeehaw!” every shot.

Limited edition’s are fine. The problem is the companies will want to take advantage of a new sales opportunity, our wallets and ultimately our gullibility. Sooner or later the buying public will catch on and then buy the gear they really need.
