SPY PICS! – MIZUNO MP-5 IRONS

We love the Open Championship because it’s THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP, but also because it means we get our first look at the latest from Mizuno. This year is no exception as the company has started trickling out pics from inside the tour van, including the first public shots of the MP-5 blade.

As you can see from the photos, the latest MP blade is basically everything we’d expect from Mizuno. No frills, clean lines, and absolutely beautiful.

Loved me some TP-9 irons back in the day. Pure musclebacks they are. Changed to MP-32 about five years ago. Shame MP-5 doesn’t come in lefty.

Currently play the MP-32. Love them. Have been hard pressed to replace those babies. Wilson FG62 is next on the list but these new mizuno’s could do it.

I play “MX-17’s” Mizuno irons and, love them. I only wish I could afford a newer set of Mizuno
      irons like the “MK-850”

Great…another $1500 set of beautiful irons most golfers will never be able to afford. However, with middle America disappearing and gofers leaving the game by the thousands each year, maybe Mizuno is going after the only gof market that can afford new irons!

Just bring us a re-worked 29. Why the need to go all wavy and flow-y? Just make it sharp edged, sharp toed, thin top, solid muscle. Please.

To me it seems that they have adopted the Ben Hogan kind of design with two steps in the muscle. Or is it just my eyes and that shiny chrome finish? If this is the case I would prefer some older design. To me it is the minimalistic form of MB club like recent MP-68/69/4, that gives the club its timeless elegance. Start adding stuff like corners and other features to it; sure it may help hitting the ball but as surely you loose that elegance that came with the well known price.

Are Mizuno reinventing their blade design and if so, why? That is the question to be asked IMO.

They look just as good as my MP-69’s.. Although less beat up.

I’m sure they’re not any easier to hit, and just as rewarding when a great shot does happen. Some say only low single digit caps need apply… I beg to differ. If you play for money they might be a bad choice, but if you play for the joy of it, very hard to beat any Mizuno blade.

Play for money is a common occurrence with my MP 69 setup. It is the “intimidator” and rewarding when the ball releases from the club face with a solitary click; well flighted and on target.
These MP 5s are a interestingly beautiful and full – on Mizzu (a muscle-bound Blade).
