Survey – What’s In YOUR Bag?

Survey – What’s In YOUR Bag?

Because You Paid For It

What’s in the Bag? Or WITB (if you’re down with abbreviations). It’s the quintessential question asked by every golf site ever created. More often than not though, they’re talking about what the pros play.

Who cares? Yeah, I get it. It’s cool to see new gear, but if you want the simple answer to the question of what the pros play, I’ll give it to you straight. The pros play what they’re paid to play, with very few exceptions.

Rory’s driver – paid. Tiger’s irons – paid. Phil’s wedges – paid. Spieth’s shoes – paid. That doesn’t interest us in the least. What we really want to know is what golfers such as yourselves have chosen for your bags.

What brands are you playing? How long have you played them, and of course, what new gear are you planning on purchasing this season. We want to hear from the guys who pay to play, not the guys who get paid to play.

While you’re here, feel free to use the comment section to tell us exactly why you play what you play.

I play a Titleist driver, fairway wood, and hybrid because I was able to get the correct hosel settings and shaft options. Without needing a custom order. I play AP2 irons because I like the feel. I run XP95 shafts in them. As for irons I could easily play mizuno or Bridgestone. I would have preferred to get the dual pocket Bridgestone irons but the AP2 had a better shaft option for me.

Driver– Cobra AMP Cell – Stock Stiff Shaft (Blue) Likely to be upgraded to a Fly Z or Fly Z plus later this year. Still happy with it, but I do not get the roll I would like on some shots.

3 wood- Purespin 3-70 series with a Penley Stiff shaft – finally replacing this year, bagged since 2003. I have to be the only person still playing this club….at least on these boards.
Hybrid – Cobra AMP 4 hybrid Stiff
Irons- Cobra S3 Stock Graphite Regular shafts 4-PW, GW
Wedges- Cobra S3 PW, GW, SW -Cobra Tour Trusty 56* Black, LW Cleveland CG 10 60*
Putter– Odyssey, Sabertooth Backstryke. ( I hate this putter and am getting it replaced soon)
Ball– Srixon Z star XV, Titleist NXT Tour, Bridgeton E6. I like to also play these in Yellow.
Shoes- Asics – Gel Linksmaster I believe, from late 2012. They are literally the most comfortable shoes I own.

Bag a bit of a jumble sale at the moment, will be some streamlining coming soon, as it has gotten a bit disjointed – not just in terms of brands but in terms of the way it all fits together.

      Driver: RBZ, stock 10.5* R
      4W: Wishon 919 on Aldila Proto 80 R
3H: Cleveland 588 on Aldila low torque L flex shaft leftover from a transplant of iron heads for my wife. Tipped it to play stiffer, but it hasn’t had it’s first run yet. See how it plays, may end up being re-shafted again, time and range balls will tell.
5H: Wishon, can’t remember the model. Bought on eBay and plays well for me. It’s on an Aldila for Adams shaft.
      4-P: Cleveland 588 MT
Wedges: 50, 54, 60 Maltby on KBS shafts
      Putter: Cleveland Classic Black Pearl.

That totals 15 clubs, so one over what I am allowed….the new 3H took me over, currently thinking I will just leave 4 iron out and use the 5H in its place, but as I said in the beginning, in a kind of experimental, pre-streamlining phase with my bag at present. I may find myself driting toward an all Cleveland bag, starting with replacing the wedges, but we will see….

Pretty mixed up bag for me at present, will likely be some tweaks and streamlining forthcoming soon.

      As it stands:

      D: RBZ stock 10.5 R shaft
4W: Wishon 919 on Aldila proto VS 80 R flex shaft
3H: Cleveland 588 head on L flex Aldila shaft had leftover from wife’s custom set, tipped to play hopefully-sorta R-ish. New to the bag, gets its first outing next week. Fingers crossed cos the 4W hates me off the deck….
5H: Wishon something (can’t remember model). On an Aldila for Adams shaft IIRC. In office now, can’t check. Ebay purchase that I seem to get along well with.
      5-PW – Cleveland MT 588, R flex steel.
      50, 54, 60 – Maltby wedges on KBS shafts
Putter: Cleveland Classic HB Black Pearl.

For my driver, I play the TourEdge Exotics XCG7 with the Matrix shaft that comes standard with the Beta version of the club. It is the only driver I’ve played that I can manipulate my shots with. I stuck with TourEdge for my 3 wood and hybrid. 3 wood is a cb4 tour and the hybrid xcg6. Solid and very long.

My irons are the Wilson Staff FG Tour V2’s. As to why I play them, they are longer than the Taylormade Burner 2.0’s while not using “jacked up” lofts. Other reasons include an incredible feel. I researched extensively and could not find a legit bad review of them so I had to try them out.

Wedges are the Callaway Mack Daddy 2 set. I went with them after trying them out and getting well over 10,500 spin rate. They also have the same kbs tour shafts like my irons.

Putter is the Never Compromise Gambler limited. I basically wanted a $300 putter without having to pay $300. The putter has a Superstroke mid slim 2.0 grip, looks incredible at address and feels perfect. Will be holding on to this for a looooong time.

Everything I bought was second hand. I cannot afford new equipment and can barely afford to play. I come to this forum because I trust the people behind it for it’s legitimate reviews and fantastic forum.

I buy and play older models of Cleveland clubs throughout my bag except for my Ping putter. I wait for the prices to go low so I can basically afford “new” clubs that are at the end of intro periods. Saving hundreds of dollars that I can put towards greens fees is just fine with me. I know guys who just can’t wait to jump at the chance to have the supposed “latest and greatest” gear is, to me, foolish to say the least. I play just as well with old clubs as my buddies with the newer stuff. The clubs can be the greatest thing since sliced bread but if you can’t hit them, so what. I also bought a brand new Titleist bag at a closeout event, saved over $100 dollars and I smile every time I’m asked about it. I keep all my equipment in mint condition and people are amazed when I tell them how old they are.
