Club Testers Wanted – SCOR4161 Scoring System

Does Your Short Game Need Help?

The team at SCOR Golf has asked us to round up 5 MyGolfSpy Forum Members to test their 5 club scoring system.

When it comes to wedges…excuse me scoring clubs (because SCOR is about a lot more than wedges), SCOR might not be the household name that Vokey and Cleveland are, but as positive reviews build, and word gets out, it might very well be a matter of time before the golfing consumer starts to put his money behind the idea that scoring clubs are more important than the 10 more yards fantasy. When that happens…say goodbye to wedges, and say hello to the scoring set.

Why SCOR Golf

In the “arms race “for more distance, club manufacturers have sabotaged what SCOR believes is the most important part of your bag – the scoring part.

The scoring end of the set either hasn’t evolved with the modern game, or has evolved poorly.  Golfers everywhere have been forced to choose between 60 year old wedge designs and cavity back scoring clubs that make it more difficult than ever to control trajectory and distance with the high loft clubs.

The SCOR4161 scoring system, with patented SG3 progressive weighting design, proprietary shaft combinations, and dynamic V-Sole, mark the first meaningful innovation in the scoring game in 60 years.

Combined with SCORFit – SCOR’s proprietary online fitting tool – SCOR delivers the complete scoring range package:  A solution designed both for the modern game, and your individual game.

What You Get, What’s Expected

The 5 readers chosen by the MyGolfSpy Staff  will receive a 5 Club SCOR Golf Prescription (8 iron – lob wedge). Those same 5 readers will be asked to provide other MyGolfSpy readers with a comprehensive review of the SCOR system.

Thorough is what we do, and we ask the same of our readers. Please don’t apply if you’re not willing to do the work.

  • Can a 5 club scoring set replace your current short irons and wedges?
  • Does the SCOR4161 deliver on its promise of lower scores?

I don’t know.

It’s your job (at least it could be) to find out.

Requirements

:: Must be a resident of North America (USA, Canada, or Mexico)
:: Must be a MyGolfSpy Forum Member in good standing
:: Must be able to string sentences together in a coherent fashion (wit and humor are a bonus)
:: Must be capable of producing quality photos of golf equipment
:: Must have willingness, time, and ability to thoroughly test a matched set of 5 SCOR4161 Scoring Clubs

How To Enter

Check out the MyGolfSpy SCORFit Pro Website.

Use the SCORFit Short Game Analysis Tool to determine your 5 Club Prescription

To enter, leave a post in the SCOR Testing Thread (click link) that contains the following:

  • Your current handicap (or your average 18 hole score)
  • 1 original photo of one or more of your current scoring clubs (8 iron-LW)
  • Your SCORFit 5 Club Prescription.

*The Final Tester will be chosen no later that Friday, August 30th at 5PM Eastern Time.

When is this review going to get done? I’m in the market for wedges and have been wanting to see a more current review of them before I decide what I’m going to do. I like the reviews done here as they seem pretty honest, so I’ve been holding off. The SCOR clubs are interesting.

I would love to have a chance to test out the wedges because I only have one old 60* Cleveland wedge. I have about a 15 handicap right now and would like to see if these wedges would lower my score a couple shots. I am right handed. I am looking for a wedge that has better accuracy and a good distance and hopefully these are the wedges that I have been looking for. I have plenty of golf courses that I can go to and two of them are under thirty minutes away so I can put these clubs to use.

I carry six Scor wedges, 41* through 61* in 4 degree increments and wouldn’t trade them for any other club.

I was playing the Titleist 775CB with the Nippon shafts when I got theses. Since the front end of my bag went to hybrids starting at the 6 hybrid I decided to replace my 775cb 7 & 8 irons with AP1’s shafted with the KBS Tour shaft which is essentially the same shaft as the Scor. Couldn’t be happier. The half wedges I can hit with my 41* are unreal, certainly not something I can do with consistently with a traditional 9 iron and this just translates through all the lofts. I don’t get those shots that used to climb the face and come up short that I used to get with my 588’s. Thin shots just seem to turn out better as do those hit closer to the toe than my old wedges.

I feel every aspect of the club’s design contributes to an overall superior wedge. The only two things for me to look into is whether I would benefit from a flatter lie (even though their lie is flatter than industry) and do some serious gapping work to see if I could get away with 5* degree increments so I can add a fairway wood to my bag for certain course layouts.

I should add I was a very early adopter buying these the first summer they were out so I’ve had them for sometime. I pray that people realize the benefits and quality of these clubs and make the switch to Scor because I need them to be there for me when my wedges wear out (knock on wood).

Love the idea of a scoring set and would jump at the chance to test the new SCOR golf offerings. I have had my handicap down to a 10 but I am currently playing to a 13. Things are looking up though as the kid starts full time Kindergarten in the fall.

My current scoring set consists of: two Cleveland CG 15’s, at 58 and 54 degrees respectively as well as a 52 degree Cleveland CG 14 bent to 50 degrees. I didn’t include my 8 iron through PW because I am not sure my Adams A7’s qualify as scoring clubs!

Living in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and being a shift worker would afford me the opportunity to thoroughly test these irons. I currently play twice a month and pound rocks at the range once a week at a minimum. Thanks to the public school system those numbers will only go up. My Scorfit recommendation is below:
      LOFTS
      41° 45° 49° 53° 57°
      152-156 136-140 124-128 109-113 96-100

I enjoy reading tests from mygolfspy.com and would love the opportunity to contribute.

This is a great, great offer I have looked at SCOR wedges at my local shop. Golf MD here in Kansas. My SCOR fit was 42,46,50,54 & 58. My current set is some Cleveland 588 DSGs 52, 56 & 60 I would have bought some but I had to choose between buying clubs for me or buying a new set for my granddaughter who has outgrown her first set. I hope that brings a tear to your eye. I shoot in the 80s sometimes low sometimes high. I’m not too bad with my wedges mostly wild with my driver. I find it interesting that they brought my lofts down I’d love to try them out and see what they can do for my game.

I would very much like to be considered for your club testing. I am in need of something to take my game to the next level. I am a 16.4 handicap and I am preparing for the club championship at the end of September. I want take my game up a notch or two and I have heard from a friend of mine that your wedges might just do the trick. If I had the money I would have them and not have to enter a contest. Thanks for considering me.

Can you guys comment on the feedback given from the scorfit system at some point. I’m curious what your thoughts are on wedges that don’t match your mid and long irons. Does the “smooth” transition between these clubs make a difference or does it just look good in the bag and allow one manufacturer the opportunity to sell you two more clubs in a set. I’ve never owned matching set irons wedges in shaft or in the head and had reasonable results. Chosen or not ( entry on forum post) i’m very interested in the results and hopefully the winners approach with with scrutiny and objectivity which i’m sure they will. Specifically I’d like to see the standard shots from all lies, feel, dispersion…etc but i’m interested that transitions from Mid irons to wedges. Starting with the 5 iron take a two shots then two with a wedge and comparing those in results and subjective factors to the gamer sets they have. The thing i notice most going from a mid iron to wedge in my set is the grip feels bigger on the mid iron as the shaft OD is larger and the swing weight seems a good bit higher. The fact that I do notice this in my practice swings or waggles makes me think there is some merit to their claim. At any rate I’d like to hear thoughts on that from the experts at the shop.

HI MGS! The forums site won’t let me reply to the topic so I can post my info there. Any ideas? Here are my stats for the club tester promo, and I’ve got a pic of some of my current gear!

My current handicap is 6.8. I play with Vokey’s (46 bent to 45, 52 and 56). My irons are Titleist AP1’s. I think cosmetically the Scor wedges look incredible and I’d love to try them out. My perscription is as follows:

      49
      53
      57
Genius 12 firm flex shafts w/tour velvet grips

These scoring clubs knocked the Vokeys out of my bag. Last year I was fitted with Ping i20 irons, but didn’t get any extra wedges. This April I decided to give the 4161’s a try and got fitted with a 54 and 58. What a difference on approach shots and around the green! I have been thinking about adding a couple more, but not sure if I want to go as far as the 8-9 iron. I might be a little biased.

Sadly I’m in the UK so no good for the testing!…I do though have SCOR 52 and 58 wedges and been playing them for the last 2 months, they are incredible! Wish I had the funds to bag a set of 5 but 2 kids under the age 2 mean this is not currently possible.

Looking forward to seeing your reviews as I think the testers will be blown away by these clubs.

Keep up the great work MGS

Why should I be picked? Because I more than exceed the ‘bonus requirement’ stated above. a sample of my work, “Poster ‘Joe’ or as called by his Indian name, ‘Chief He-who Use Metric’, 160-165 with your 9i. REALLY? Sir, overstating how far you can hit the ball is not allowed at RocketBallzWood CC.” Thank you, thank you. I currently play around a 12 -14 handicap. That number is this high because of my horrible putting!! Maybe a wedge game that got me closer to the hole would greatly reduce this number!
My lofts and distances you created for me is as follows:
      43 @ 140-144
      47 @ 126-130
      51 @ 112-116
      55 @ 99-103
      59 @ 87-91
I am currently in product development for a living and think I could give great insight to the average player from and average player when it comes to this product. Real expectations and not a sales gimmick!
