The Odyssey Toe Up Surprise

The Odyssey Toe Up Surprise

By Dave Wolfe

Under Wraps…

If the new Odyssey Toe Up putter line tells us nothing else, we now know that Odyssey knows how to keep a secret.

It seems like the recent PGA shows have been all about showing us the new gear that we have actually already seen months prior.

You already snuck a look at the present in your mom’s closet, now you must fake surprise when you unwrap it.

Well, Odyssey must have kept the Toe Up putters at the neighbor’s house, because their unveiling came as a total surprise. This PGA show was really to be all about the unveiling of the new White Hot RX line, and it was mostly. I even had a piece on the White Hot RX line this week.

However, that stealth release of the Toe Up may have stolen a bit of the RX spotlight.

Toe Up: What We Know

So the Toe Up is out there now, sort of. There’s still not a ton of information about these putters, but I will share what I have as of right now.

Rest assured that more will be information and depth of coverage in the coming months.

Here is what Odyssey tells me so far about the Toe Up line:

Stroke Balanced For More Consistency

Odyssey Toe Up - 1

We’ve engineered our Stroke Balanced technology to reduce torque during the stroke for minimal twisting, so you can keep the putter on line. And we engineered the shaft axis so that it’s specifically aligned with the Center of Gravity. By putting all this into the Toe Up, we’ve made it a lot easier to get the face back to square at impact. And that promotes a much more consistent stroke.

Precision Crafted Metal-X Face For A Pure Roll

Odyssey Toe Up - 2

With our Tour-proven Metal-X face, we’ve used a fly cut to make the face perfectly flat and a chemical etching, which leads to a pure roll. We got it right down to the last detail.

Hi-Def Alignment

Odyssey Toe Up - 3

The 3 white lines that worked so well with our Marxman family are now in the Odyssey Toe Up, and the lines absolutely pop off the Charcoal PVD finish. This hi-def system lets you setup perfectly to the ball.

SuperStroke Flatso Grip With Counter Core Technology

The Toe Up comes standard with the SuperStroke Flatso 1.0 grip design that allows for even pressure in both hands to eliminate tension in the wrists and forearms. The grip includes SuperStroke’s new counter core technology. Weights can be purchased at your local retailer.

More To Come

Odyssey Toe Up - 4

At the risk of repeating myself, we will have more info on these in the coming months. The Toe Ups are not the first putters to have the, well, Toe Up toe-hang. Edel putters have it, and so did the venerable PING Cushin. Odyssey is the #1 Putter in Golf though, and that makes it different.

I’m not being sarcastic, they really are, and it really does.

When a big company like Odyssey does something, it’s going to have a larger impact on the market than it would coming from a small, boutique shop like Edel.

As for that scope of that impact, analysis begins April 15th.

The putter in the video looks like a blade putter?

I’d give it a roll if they can push the head weight to 400g.

One of the more interesting new “innovations” I’ve seen come around in a while. Always been a fan of the Metal X face. Might be giving one of these a try.

This technology is very real, harkens back to Odyssey Backstryke putters which were practically fool proof. Very interested in these….

The usual scenario: Manufacturer brags about how their tour pros just had to put the new club in their bag before it’s officially released.

Toe up scenario: Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No tour pros. In no bags. Nothing.

It’s just a gimmick. They’re pushing the limits to see what they can sell us.

This is a copy of Edel Torque Balance putters. There are tour players with that in there bags. Bryson DeChambeau is killing it with one, I hear Ben Cran is now trying one. Nick Faldo also.

And edel is copying the design of yar golf, the positive putter, and some other practically unknown brands that have done low moi and toe hang putters for years now. So you can’t knock callaway and praise edel at the same time

The toe points up when balancing the club? Wow, wish there was a picture of that.

Wow! I love my Edel Torque Balance putter but wished there were more design choices. This could be big.
