Looks cheaper than the 909 line here in the US, but the headcover looks nice
January 25th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Looks too cheap too ever consider hitting? I almost feel insultied buy having Titleist clubs in my bag. I hear Adams is doing good thing and with MIzuno??? Might consider a change!
January 25th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
Very different from the 909 series. Why so different for the Japan Market?
January 25th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
It’s a nice driver. I like it. I don’t know if I like it better than the 909 series though. The key would be how it plays!

Wow no kidding genius
January 25th, 2010 at 6:48 pm
i agree it looks very cheap. You can definitely tell its not something titleist would release here in the U.S. If only the whole club looked as good as the head cover then we’d be set.

if you have a look at other japanese market clubs (drivers in this particular case) you will notice that the style of the drivers sold there are of this style. They believe and prefer a cleaner looking, minimalistic driver. Just take a look at their Callaway Legacy.

Well you can always count on a dissenting thought and you can chalk this one up to the I like it category. I have always been a fan of tall faces and this has one. That shape, through trial and error, is one feature that I consider when buying another driver – lol
I would have liked to see a picture of the crown from address to get a better idea of its shape.
Guys – can you tell me why you think it looks cheap ? I’m not that familiar with the Titleist aesthetic. I can be convinced by a strong arguement

It looks funky–but the key for me to like it would be how it sounded when i hit it. I love the dull, muted almost persimmon-like sound of my 909 D2. the headcover is nice- they like those flashy colorful things in Japan.

with the lack of cosmetics this almost looks lilke a prototype. like it or not i wish i had one so i could stick it on ebay. it would cover my trip to spring training!!

Looks like a Tour Edge Stamped with Titleist name
July 27th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
Probably made in the same foundry…
July 28th, 2010 at 2:49 am
Justin
These clubs are Forged, no Foundry is involved. A foundry makes cast (Ping, most “forgivness” irons) products. In Japan there is a long tradition when it comes to forgings.
There are however some large Forgers such as Endo that are subcontracted by several brands to forge their designs. But Endo has a very good reputation when it comes to precision manufacturing, and the products are being produced in Japan. So if your japanese Bridgestone clubs for example, even the J38s available in the US and EU, are made by Endo then that is a good thing. I have also seen TM R9 TP irons in a forged edition, and a smoke colored Forged version of the TM Burner Irons, not cheap but holding them in your hand will for sure give you GAS..

Hi Justin
Sorry, it seems that Endo IS a foundry after all, since they MELT the raw metal and THEN forge the clubheads…My bad
January 26th, 2010 at 10:25 am
Wow, that looks like a ton of Roll on the face. I don’t like that.
January 26th, 2010 at 10:26 am
My first thought when I looked at the sole was that it reminded me of a Diamond Tour driver. But since the only time you see it is when you pull the headcover, to me its not a deal breaker.
Would still like to see the head at address.

‘Bulbous’ and really quite ugly IMO.
January 26th, 2010 at 5:16 pm
Well Say What You Want, But Hupla never get it done… If you look at the John Nakashima line, you’ll see Titleist just copied the design of J N, this marks my 50th year in golf and have seen everything, all the new or not so new designs, just wouldn’t sell doesn’t mean it’s not better, many years of testing different designs and metals or a combination of metals, has produced golf clubs that out play golf courses…, Hense the Grove Law… Dispersion is everything period !!! You are most likely thinking I work for J N But I Don’t, Just a Player and a master student of the game. With removable shafts… I think It pretty much says it all, It’s all about Combinations, just because you have all the high end goodies in a Race motor doesn’t mean it goes faster !!! Look at Callaways first, not S2H2, But Big Bertha ugly but true game improvement, over the top, way inside… ball still went straight HUM. enought said. KEEP IT IN THE FAIRWAY, TRUE GAME IMPROVEMENT.

looks a lot like the ft-5 from callaway i think it will be really good
January 27th, 2010 at 5:29 am
I think this club is designed for the serious ’senior’ player in Japan as they don’t have the COMP version. I quite like the sole very understated. I guess we’re getting to used to busy sole design of the NIKE VR and TM R9 if people don’t like it lol! I wonder if we look at flat sole we think they now loook cheap?
January 27th, 2010 at 6:59 am
I love it. I hated Titleist drivers for the past 3 years or so. Nice to see them coming out with something a little more traditional again.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:41 am
really like the head cover, the actual driver could use work. not bad though if i can hit it.
January 29th, 2010 at 12:01 am
The way Titleist have been branding their drivers for the last 5 years or more has been very distinctive. IMHO this is a knock-off. The VG3 logo looks hand stamped and on the other hand Japan is FAMOUS for flawless identical knock-offs.
January 29th, 2010 at 12:15 am
plus the fake screw thing on the 3rd pic is making me more skeptical.
January 29th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
absolutely love this driver.
comes as a very clean and stealthy looking club.
too bad the price tag is 899.USD and it doesn’t come out till march in japan.
January 29th, 2010 at 6:27 pm
actually it reminds me of the ADAMS GT363 from way back in the early 2000’s. ADAMS also made a non-conforming version too. I would hope if Titleist came to the US market they would do away with the high polish look. Not bad, but definately a very calm sole design in comparision to others on the market now.

MGS – thx for the links to the various companies. Was surprised to see Fisher putters still hanging in there. Always liked the look of their stuff.
Glad to see that you’re having a great time – its definately a “kid in a candy store feeling”, huh ?

Looks cheap hu? This is a serious high quality forging, made in Japan. The quality easily exceeds anything in the EU/US market, by far. In Japan people are ready to pay for good equipment, and so, they have super high quality stuff that is totally superior in every way (finish, manufacturing tolerance, materials) to the equipment sold in other markets.
How about a forged CG15 wedge? A set of forged Machspeed irons? Or perhaps a forged set of TM burners?
Shafts? Don´t get me started, the versions sold in the US from UST for example is not the best quality shaft UST makes. That´s the AXIV shaft, Asia/Japan only. The axivcore? It has a bit of AXIV fibre in the butt section, thats it.
July 27th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
Never heard of that. Does make sense, though: AXIV, AXIV”core”…
