The Making Of The Slighter Snubnose

Step 1 The Snubnose starts from a solid block of steel.

Step 2 Here is where I am shaping the toe and heel.

Step 3 Milling the Snubnose face to 4 degrees.

Step 4 Here is the finished face milled at 4 degrees.

Step 5 Now the bumpers have been shaped.

Step 6 Milling the cavity and shaping the bumpers of the Slighter Snubnose.

Step 7 Milling and cleaning the cavity and shaping the putter to weight.

Step 8 Here is the front view with custom hand stamping on the face.

Step 9 Rear view with nearly finished cavity and backside of the Snubnose.

Step 10 Top view of the nearly finished Snubnose.

Step 11 And…the bottom view of the sole…the Snubnose is nearly finished!

I can only speak from experience of dealing with Tom, but he is a top notch guy. The putters he makes are just as good if not better than a majority of the competitors out there. What Tom gives you with his putters is extreme craftsmanship and superior service that you will get nowhere else.
I got a Slighter Seattle model about 2 years ago and it is the best putter that I have ever owned. I would recommend Tom’s work for anyone. If you want a solid putter this is your company, but you will also get the best customer service in the business!

Tom is really a great guy. Not only he’s willing to share his experience, but is always listening to your own desires. My Tacome is in the bag since quite a time, and I can’t see it going for the foreseeable future!

Tom has plenty of models. Go to http://www.slightergolf.com and you can see all of his models. He also has a gallery of all the putters he has done. The gallery is great as you can see all of the different finishes he offers and all of the other cusom options he has.

Spy I really like the inside scoop on guys like Tom…true craftsman that deserve to have their work seen…I really like the looks of the Michael Manolides model. I would love to take that out and test drive it. Does Tom have any dealers in Massachusetts or is he online only?
April 2nd, 2009 at 8:04 am
Hey Blueprint…as far as I know he is only online.

Wow… That is cool. I have never seen a Slighter in person, but I’d love to try one out. It would be exciting to go through the whole process of ordering one, and having the finished product arrive at your door. Drooooool.

I know when I got my Slighter it was one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had. Just building my own putter and getting it exactly the way I want was outstanding. Tom makes everyone feel like they are his only customer.

This reminds me of the show on the Discovery channel “How its made”, and they show exactly how its made, thats what the photos reminded me anyways lol.

Hey Boris – thanks for stopping by and leaving us a comment.

Now that is a great looking price. Tom makes great putters. They are pretty pricey but I don’t have a problem with that, because after all it is fully customizable .
I’m loving that head shape as well. Imagine it in your favorite finish out of the other post a few days ago.

Agreed. They aren’t dirt cheap, but who would expect it to be cheap when you are getting a putter that you want with your specs. I got my putter finished in Seattle Mud. If you go onto his gallery search for Chauncey Bush and you can see my putter!

Thanks….I absolutely love my Slighter!

Absolutely beautiful putter and in all my years of golf internet particpation I have never, ever heard one bad comment about Slighter. – That says a lot to me.
I am a Bettinardi guy – still have my Big Ben – and I thought that in terms of workmanship, Bob is at the top of the game. I would add Tom Slighter to that list.

This is awesome look inside the art of milling of a top notch putter keep up the great looks at the stuff us average guys will never see.

Thanks again Layne.

I always love seeing the putter making process, but the lettering and big red dot is very Scotty Cameron. Aside from the milled face, this model looks like the SC Squareback putter that Titleist has been pushing in all the retail golf mags. Regardless, it’s still a gorgeous looking club.
