TOP 10 FINALISTS! – “MyGolfSpy Tour Staff Contest”

Finalists Announced!

With the entry round of the MyGolfSpy Tour Staff Contest behind us, it’s time to announce our finalists. One of these guys is going to win a huge prize packaged valued at over $5,200. The guy who finishes 2nd walks away with a pretty incredible prize valued at over $3,500.

Remember, just because you weren’t selected as a finalist doesn’t mean you can’t walk away with a pretty sweet prize of your own. The 3rd place prize winner (valued at almost $1700) will be selected at random from everyone who votes in the 2nd round of the contest. Each vote it good for 1 entry in our 3rd place drawing, and you may vote up to once per day for the next two weeks.

>> VOTE NOW <<

Basically…in almost every other contest, the 3rd place prize would make an awesome grand prize. In case you’ve forgotten, here’s what the 3rd place winner gets:

3rd Place:

(1)TaylorMade Driver
(1)TaylorMade Fairway Wood
(1)Adams Hybrid
(2)SCOR 4161 Wedges
(3) – Dozen Bridgestone Golf Balls
(1) – Golf Outfit from Sub70USA
(1) – Pair of TRUE Linkswear phx Golf Shoes

Prize Value: $1,675

Now that we’ve got that squared away, let’s have a look at our 10 finalists in the MyGolfSpy Tour Staff Giveaway.

The Staff Pics

Just because you don’t have 1000 friends, it doesn’t mean you don’t have good ideas. After reviewing every last one of the contest entries, the staff has selected our 5 favorites. Like the guys who coasted through on votes alone, these guys are also through to the finals.

Will D. wants us to provide you an opportunity to give better feedback on our reviews.

One thing that is missing from the reviews is a rating of the review itself. A poll at the bottom would provide great feedback to you guys and be well in line with your goal of not censoring anything.1) I bought the item right away!
2) I will buy the item within the next year
3) I liked the review, but will not buy the item
4) The review is biased or is not thorough
5) This is the worst review I’ve ever read.Plus, the results could provide market data you could use when selling ads

Eric H. wants to see more head to head reviews.

Overall I really enjoy MyGolfSpy. But I would like to see more club shootouts, instead of one at a club at a time. Have people test 3-4 and give reason why X is better than Y.

Will P. suggested we bring in some professionals to help with instruction, fitting, and fitness. We’re trying Will, we’re trying.

Establish a new Ask the Expert forum staffed by professional golf instructors, fitters, physical therapists, and mental coaches. Experts will answer questions on the forum at designated times each week. Each Expert has their own reserved time to be online. Times are reserved so forum participants know when the Expert will be online. Experts are not paid. They may be starting their career or may be established. They are recruited and benefit by establishing credibility from forum activity to build a customer base for their professional services. Make GolfSpy the site where golfers go to get expert professional instruction.

Brian P. wants to see more life style articles, behind the scenes coverage, and broader coverage in a general sort of way.

First off, I would never say the site sucks, but are there some places that could use improvement, maybe.. I would like to see more articles about the sport of golf itself and the golf lifestyle. Most of what we see is about equipment (which I love), but I would like more on how the pro’s train, what their lives are like off the course, behind the scenes of some of the smaller manufacturing companies, how are courses maintained, what goes into course development. Basically, I want a place to talk about everything golf, not just equipment…

Finally, Drew S. wants to replace those “get in the hole guys” with people who can actually help spread awareness of the MyGolfSpy Brand.

The way to improve (bcs i am a genious) would be to get some shameless plugs in the mass media. Maybe pay some poor sap a couple bucks to yell “MYGOLFSPY.COM!!!!” right after someone tee’s off at televised tournaments. Think of how many hits you would get if yelled after Tiger hit his shot! NO paying for national advertising and every golf fan would hear your website every weekend if a few guys yelled it out a couple times per tournament. A GREAT and FUN way to plug the website!

The Automatic Qualifiers

Maybe these guys have good ideas, maybe they don’t. What we’re fairly certain of is that they at least have loyal friends who might actually want them to win this contest. So anyway, here are the 5 that made it through to round 2 as automatic qualifiers.

James R. was the top vote getter for round 1. He moves on to the finals with this little rant about adding a travel section.

You do a great job with sneak peeks and reviews. Let’s put some effort into golf travel. Tell me how average Joe’s like myself can play nice tracks or plan golf trips while saving some dough! Highlight deals across the country as they come available. Equipment is important but equally for myself is getting the chance to play courses I might see the pro’s own on TV. Do some spying and throw us a bone on how to get on private coursesl, common folk like to play good golf courses too!!! Lastly, pull some strings and get me on Augusta…

Kevin L. finished #2 in the voting by narrowly avoiding the use of the word Robot.

I was in the MyGolfSpy honeymoon period until this contest was announced. I saw the rules and the word that I couldn’t use in my entry post. Come on? How am I supposed to describe my golf game without that word? So many people say that my game is boring because I hit fairways, greens and make putts. It’s like I’m a well I can’t say it. The honeymoon is over and MyGolfSpy sucks. The only way they’d regain my trust is for me to win this contest and be the staff rep because I’m what they are looking for.

Elie wants…well…a lot.

A-Why you suck (even if you don’t really suck)

1-You should do your club test in comparison with others and this after a real fitting to be more precise, combine with a radar. (ball speed, rpm, launch angle, dispersion…). for the moment it’s not enough precise.

B-What You Could improve to be more spy and funny!

You could post more videos of miss shot by golf pros on range or on the course. It can help some golfer to have more confidence.

also post some dialogue between players and caddies could be fun.

Jason B. was one of many who suggested we do more testing of component brands

My only “complaint” is that you do not test component brands. I’d love to see some Wishon, Maltby, Acer, and so on, put up against the top brands.

And finally Dan M. rounds out the top 5 with this almost incomprehensible rambling about a battle with a Yeti, and his inability to win anything.

Once I captured a Yeti with my bare hands while jogging in Nepal, a Hulk Hogan leg drop finished him, but since I am such a great humanitarian I released it back into the wilds cause that is the right thing to do. I often think back to that Yeti and how much help he would have been around the house cleaning gutters and such…. Oh sorry lost my train of thought there for a sec… YOU GUYS SUCK CAUSE I NEVER WIN ANY PRIZES AROUND HERE!! Nuff said.

Voting Starts Now!

Voting starts NOW!. The final round runs for 2 solid weeks, so be vote and vote often. Tell your friends. Hell, tell your friends to tell their friends.

Once again, everyone who votes in the 2nd round will be automatically entered to win the 3rd place prize. You can vote once per day for the duration of the contest. You must be subscribed to our newsletter to win.

>> VOTE NOW <<

Good luck everyone.

I hope this doesn’t sound like sour grapes because I’m not talking about the fact that you chose this entry as one of your finalist. I’m simply stating I don’t agree with what he wants and that is Brian P. I don’t want to see you spend your valuable time doing lifestyle articles. There are hundreds if not thousands of sites that do that and some of them very well. Why just add to the clutter? You do a great job of equipment testing and reviewing and that is your niche. Don’t take away from what you do great to become just another golf site.

+10 David….Great point!!…I believe that MGS has carved out a nice niche, and I believe, and if you look at the successful small to mid-sized businesses, it’s more profitable to be narrow & deep(Specialist) than to be broad & shallow(generalist, any big-box store)..In my grad school classes, I use the analogy of medicine, specifically physicians…Who earns more, a general practicioner or a specialist?…Who is more esteemed?…Answer: Specialist…

You cannot be all things to all people…It can cripple a large business(Callaway) & it will kill a small-mid sized business…If they have a life-time forum, fine, though I would put my resources into the equipment & Tour side of the blog & forum….I went and looked & you’re right, there are at least hundreds of sites…

You got the best post on the page & it would’ve been a hell of an entry…If you haven’t already, stop in the forum, I think you’d like the topics & the guys/girls…..

3rd Place in this contest is first place at a lotta other sites. Who wouldn’t want a new set of wedges, balls and a new outfit. MGS did a solid job putting this thing together. Congrats to the guys who get these top 3 prizes, my hats off to you.

Was just wondering if we are ever going to have an update on how the voting is going or if this going to be blind from beginning to end? My friends keep wanting to know how the voting is going – even if it’s blind but we get an idea of vote totals per place. It would also be nice to know the difference in the number of votes tallied first round to second (not per participant just over all.) I’d really love to know how many more likes and Newsletter subscribers we’ve been able to generate from this contest as well.

Oh and I was reading through the third place prize – It’s incredible – it would be a remarkable grand prize in any contest I’ve ever been involved in – you guys are amazing.

      Thanks again.

I wish there were a vote count to Neil but for different reasons than you! :)

I think it’s yet another stroke on the part of our friends at MGS. This keeps everyone pushing throughout the contest period – I caught JBones’ comments about 2-5 with 1st place being a runaway – I got to tell you that I’m really politicing it out there – I’m coming after you James and I’m betting that you’re trying to run away and hide like you did last round. That’s how it should be.

      Good luck everyone!

Good for you man – good for you – these are some serious prizes – there is no way any one of us should get them by luck.

The more I’m thinking about it this is an incredible contest – awesome prizes, intrigue, has our friends involved and engaged. For crying out loud it’s got my entire staff talking about it and on facebook which has turned into a plus for a target give away.

Hey for that matter since so many of us on our facebook now you could do that for me – go into the target school give away and like Grace Lutheran School St Petersburg FL. If you’re affiliated with another school for some reason then by all means go in and vote for the school of your choice – every 25 votes is a $25 target gift certificate for that school. Pretty cool.

At any rate MyGolfSpy rocks for offering this contest. And so do all of the sponsors of this contest – I’m even taking Taylor Made off my hate list!

I was a little harsh…I just hope that you were being facetious…MGS has put a tremendous amount of effort into this contest….

$1600+ worth of prizes is most other site’s(if they even offer a contest) grand prize total…
If they do something that you legitimately have a problem with fine, call their attention to it, though as I said, I hope that you were’nt serious …

Heck, if you just took the 3rd place prizes and sold ’em on the bay, you could get $800-1000….

Anyway, MGS deserves your suport as do the finalists….If you don’t know any & are on the fence regarding who to cast it for, throw it to Will D…..Great reccomendation & excellent guy….

I still can’t believe I’m in but there I am. Good luck to everyone that made it and to those who are voting.

I realize that this is not a way to win popularity contests and that’s what I’ve got to do here but I’ve got to ask, how can any entry be off topic when the contest rules state, “We want ot know how you think we can improve.”? If in response someone says, “You can improve by picking my entry.” They are on topic.

Sorry but this is a killer contest, those whose entries are in played by the rules or their entries would have been struck. I’ve pointed out in another place that I had a serious suggestion for MyGolfSpy to consider – they could have selected it and I would gladly have deleted the silly one but my facebook friends, many of whom don’t play golf, like the silly one. Since I want MyGolfSpy to be the biggest winner in this contest I’ll add that those friends might have friends who play golf and now they are likely to say to them, “You like golf. Have you heard of a site called MyGolfSpy.”

I hope that happens a lot.
