The Best Blade Putter of 2013

Get ready! The largest putter test of 2013 the “MyGolfSpy Most Wanted Blade Putter” competition is underway. But lets have some fun first and vote for who YOU think will win.  We have already begun testing and results will be posted in the coming weeks.  We’re putting 15 of the top putter companies in golf head to head – and you can bet that each and every one believes it makes the best blade-style putter in golf.

14 companies are going to come away disappointed.

We’ve got a total of 28 different models in our test, and if we were anybody else, we might be inclined to give them all some sort of participation award.

The thing is, we’re not anybody else. We’re MyGolfSpy. We’re not indebted to the overlords at the big golf company. Because we don’t take so much as a dime from those guys, we don’t have to pander to their every desire, or stroke their unbelievably fragile egos.

We play no favorites here. We believe in a level playing field. The top performing putter wins, regardless of who produced it. It’s really that simple.

There Can Be Only One

How many winners you ask? Are we just handing out a lot of gold and silver medals? How about a Miss Congeniality award?

If you can spell putter do you get a participation ribbon?

Not here. We test to determine the best!

We won’t be scoring, innovation, or looks/sound/feel, or even Demand.

This isn’t the Hot List. What we care about…the only thing we care about…is accuracy.

The one and only winner in MyGolfSpy’s Most Wanted Blade Putter Test will be the most accurate putter. You can toss all that subjective crap out the window. Putting the ball in the bottom of the cup more frequently than the rest; that’s all that really matters.

Why would you care about anything else?

Vote Now!

While our testing will determine the winner, we encourage you to vote below for your favorite (or at the very least the company you think will win).  Be sure to use the Facebook and Twitter buttons to share this post with your friends, fans, and loyal minions so that they too can come and vote for their favorite putter manufacturer.

I can see how the Scotty’s are getting all the votes. The results would be the same if you used sports cars as the topic, and the most expensive ones would be getting the votes. Personally I think Camerons are way over-priced and they NEVER go on sale, EVER! There are so many putters out there. It’s all about comfort and feel, and “it’s not the putter, it’s the puttee”! That being said, if it makes you more confident standing over that 8 footer for the win with a 350 dollar Cameron in your hands then so be it! I’ve seen guys putt great with putters that look like they came out of an old set of rentals, and I’ve seen guys putt great with Camerons and Pings too…. Putting comes down to feel, comfort and confidence.

I have tried the Miura KM-005 it’s great but it really depends on the neck style for me. It comes down to neck style and feel

You’re all misconscrewed here… a “blade” putter is like a Wilson Arnold Palmer or 8802/8813, not a Ping Anser or later copies by Cameron or who ever. These putters are perimeter-weighted, cavity back putters, certainly not blade putters.

Purist… not even. But if resisting change means calling out people who take it upon themselves to change the traditional terms/definitions of 600 year-old game, then yes, call me a purist.

What do you mean “bad analogy”?
How about if a duck quacks, it must be a writer?

      Chris

      @ JD,
I am only in my 3rd season of golf and since I have started paying attention to equipment the Ping Anser Putter has been on the Golf Digest Hot list as a Blade Putter. I think the G25 irons are still in the GI category.? With major outlets such as GD calling them blade putters, how are we supposed to know otherwise? I do not know any 300 year old golfers so I have always been told that style is a blade putter. Is there even a “cavity back” putter category?
And no, I am not a history buff so I am not going to research to discover where the term blade putter started or what the original design was. I know the history of my game and I putt better with my Whitlam/Gauge Captain America putter. No matter what it is called.

      mygolfspy

Joe Duffer – just having some fun, no need to take personal. But can understand how fun might come across as a smart ass when all you have is words to read not hear.

But nevertheless, besides me bustin your balls about you being a purist. Here is the reality. This is how this “category” (blade putters) is defined now. Don’t blame me, blame whoever decided that it sounded better than “Cavity Back Perimeter Weighted Putter Category” and since there are just about ZERO of the putters you refer to left being used in play or sold nowadays. This is what you are left with as blades.

Comparisons between them are completely useless. You just love your putter or hate it :it’s a love/hate relation ,not a technical issue .
If the putter you use has been a “naughty boy “during your last round ,just punish him and shut him in the dark for some time:he’ll have the time to think it over and serve you better next time .

Sorry, but I’m with the few who believe this “contest” is mis-guided in its very concept.

You’re asking us to vote vote for the best ‘blade putter’ but you don’t list PUTTERS — instead we’re asked to choose from a handful of MANUFACTURERS. There’s a big difference. For example, few people love a Scotty Cameron center-shafted model, but they’re crazy for a Newport. Others may love an Odyssey Versa (because it’s affordable) and completely ignore Odyssey’s spendy ProType Tour Series. What’s more, very few golfers (if any) have tried every manufacturer here so naturally they’re going to vote for their favorites. Or the brand they use. Or the one that gets the most publicity. Which they have done.

This one should be labeled: “Not a scientific poll.”

HaHa, what’s amazing is that I’ve got every blade that Scotty makes, in addition to a few mallets, along with a few Circle T blades and though I have the Studio Select Newport Custom, Fastback 1.5 Custom & Circle T Newport Beach in my rotation, I also have the Ping Anser Millled and I’ll tell ya, hands down, no comparison. The Ping blows away the Scotty retail blades. I have to go to the Circle T Newport to get the feel of the Anser. Absolutely no contest.

However, Scotty’s name precedes him regarding reputation and I can’t tell ya how many guys I see, and I’m talkin 40-45 putt guys who have a Scotty in the bag, LMAO. Now I realize that it’s more than the arrow, and that they’d probably be the same number regardless of what’s in the bag, however it’s a status symbol more than an effective tool for them, lol.

This “explanation” is very unclear as to why more reputable companies are not included on the ballot. You say that some “declined to participate.” HUH? Just what sort of “permission” did you actually need? Seems to me: NONE. Unless you’re asking for free equipment or something there should be no reason why you don’t simply slap their names on the ballot and voters will take it from there.

Explain, please, how “YES! Putters” and others ‘declined to participate.”

Maybe the article did not communicate the purpose of this post properly.

We are doing a large Head-To-Head test with 28 different blade model putters. We thought it would be fun for guys to vote on who you thought would win once the actual results of the data and test are published.

We offered all the companies the opportunity to participate, some declined. No name makes it on the list unless they are actually in the contest.

I agree Yes putters are better than most on this list….there are some I have not tried therefore cannot comment, Harold Swash deserves better than being left out!!!!

      tiger168

Well, if the test would really be the “lade” putter, I would say, all the Wilson 8802/8806 like including those of Yonex forged, a la Phil; The Odyssey Phil special; the Scotty Napa; all the 8802 copy cats… But, then, what’s the point, right?

Then if we include the Ping design, all the heel/toe weights putter, no matter face balanced or not all all define as blades, as the magazines so conveniently called now, which I personally totally disagree, but, hey, it’s a free country; then the whole hell breaks loose, thus, all the comments and name calling “purists…” It’s just fun to read/watch this unfold.

But, then what’s the point? except you added the inserts, a la Odyssey, and the grooves, aha!!! Then the honeycomb Bentti, the Scotty milled, the Machine milled, the Yes! patented grooves. Then TaylorMade copied everyone’s idea and painted white. And so on….

      What a riot…

      But, then, what’s the point?

oh, does the test include standard grip size? over-size, long putter, heavy putter, the 1,000 different neck…. you know you can put “blades” on any of those shafts, right?

So how do you vote objectively? or test them properly?

Oh, can you use the Snek’s pop stroke against Ben’s smooth stoke, the left hand low versus right hand low, the Langer ever changing stroke before his long putter…

      You see my point?

Or should I mention John Reuter’s bullseye putter which Pavin still plays, as well??

I have several expensive putters. Ping Redwood, Odyssey White Hot and a Scotty Cameron among them. Which one do I use? A $50 Nancy Lopez because it is the most accurate for me.

I voted for the one IC think will win as you asked.

Personally I owned a tour issue Scotty that I won in a tourney and I didn’t like it near as much as my positive putter. I bought it at the golf show in No. Virginia at the Dulles Expo center back in 2000. The putter was made to my fit and is perfectly balanced for a strait down the line stroke like mine and has a nice heavy weight 350g which I like. I highly recommend these putters. http://www.positiveputters.com Check them out.

Of this The scotty blade is beautiful and balanced and the one I would select. I own about 35 different blade putters going back to a george low my grandfather gave me!

Not surprised at all the votes for Scotty Cameron — legions of loyal followers of his overpriced bling…

Amen!! Mr Cameron has made a fortune stealing designs from Ping.

It’s not the putter, it the hands holding the putter that matter!

This is a good although misguided effort. It is hardly fair for anyone to vote against putters that they have never even seen… much less rolled any putts with. For me, I have rolled putts with almost every putter ever made and my vote goes to Machine… I’m talking about all time best putters. Dave Billings and the team at Machine are really doing it right… you readers have to check them out. I am currently putting with a new model… the M8.

We’re supposed to be voting on Blade putters, not branding irons!
