WINNER! – “Forum Member Of The Month”

Congratulations!

MyGolfSpy would like to congratulate November 2011’s “MyGolfSpy Forum Member of the Month”, Moecat.

Moecat has been a loyal member and frequent contributor since we launched the forum in March of 2010. His selection as our inaugural “MyGolfSpy Forum Member of the Month” reflects his continuing dedication to growing and supporting the MyGolfSpy Forum.

As we look to the future; there aren’t any hard and fast rules for choosing a winner. The Forum Member of the Month isn’t simply given to the forum member who starts the most topics, or comments on the most posts. It’s given to a reader we feel has done an outstanding job of eliciting conversation, contribution to the discussion, and ultimately helping grow the MyGolfSpy Community.

New Winner Every Month

As the name suggests, each and every month we will select a new winner, and while there will be some overlap, every month’s prize package will be unique.  So if you haven’t become a member of the MyGolfSpy forum yet…now is a perfect time to start.  The MyGolfSpy Forum now has over 11,500 members and over 47,000 golf posts…so you are sure to find fellow golfers who share your passion for the game…and now you can win some kick-ass prizes as well.

PRIZE PACKAGE (Worth Over $425)

From all of us at MyGolfSpy, thank you, Moecat, for your contributions and participation. In recognition of this award, you’ll be receiving the following prizes:

Congrats Moecat…Although this award obviously wasn’t a motivating factor in your posts, it’s nice to see someone rewarded for posts that are done with some forethought & not the desire to read their own words in print..Well done..The very best for the Holidays & upcoming year..Fairways & Greens 4ever….

That is an amazing set of prizes, and Moecat really does deserve them. In addition, this random act of amazing is one of the coolest things that I personally have ever seen happen (online). I mean, what other forum gives out 425+ dollars in prizes for a contest that no one knew about? (An idea that imo was a stroke of genius)

All I can really say in response, is that I hope next month there is another winner i.e. Me!

I would add congrats as well and this comment in general on the forum. I watched an interview of technology giant Mark Benioff, CEO of salesforce.com a cloud based internet success. What struck me was when he compared Bill Gates to Steve Jobs and why MicroSoft has dogged and Apple has thrived. His thrust was that Jobs was a “New Learner” and reduced everything to zero with a fresh start for every new product. Where MS extends old products (arguably handsomely profitable) Apple (Jobs) reinvented itself with each new innovation. My point here is that the golf industry has continued to stagnate because few are willing to risk innovation. New ideas are simply extensions of old ideas. The Harrison shaft technology is pretty cool though and I love that they thought out of the box on that idea. I suppose most will say “well what else can club makers do besides move the weight around the club or use some new exotic material?” My answer is that new ideas will come. They always do. Someone will wake up someday and reinvent something in golf that truly changes everything. And everyone will stare at the idea and wonder why “they” didn’t think of it first. Problem solving starts at reducing the problem to zero and thinking as a new learner. I love this forum and hope to read many fine new ideas especially from contributers who are unattached to the company reviewed and unpaid.

I just read about this right now …

      … WOW!!!

Totally unexpected, and I’m most grateful to be part of the MGS community. If I were one of the decision makers on Member of the Month – and I’m not, just so we’re all clear – I could have easily mentioned a bunch of other MGS members who in my opinion would have been just as worthy – probably even more so – for this inaugural prize.

I’m very encouraged to see membership and participation steadily increase at MyGolfSpy, because that’s really what it’s all about. And I look forward to seeing the Member of the Month list grow along with the rest of the site.

Big thanks to everyone at MyGolfSpy!!!

Morris – You’re quite welcome. We truly appreciate everything you’ve done to help grow the forum not only in November, but since we launched last year.

We thought the best way to launch the award would be with a contest no one knew existed.

Morris Lee, Nice comment though you mentioned something that, although I have no doubt that there was no underlying meaning or posturing intended on your part because I am familiar with your prior comments, I would like to comment on & that is the formation of “:criteria” for this contest, or who is “more” deserving of the award along with “our(readers” input..From a business standpoint Jgolf was right on, this was a “stroke of genius”…This contest will serve as my second case(anonomous of couse) taken from MGS for a graduate business school course in entrepreneurial science….Whatever “criteria” the guys/gals @ MGS used, they hit a home run…I, as I’m sure you & many of the readers & MGS employees/contributors do also, live in an extemely competitive, cutthroat world..One where we are measured daily, often many times a day, and the only thing that counts, are Ws & Ls..& thus we are striving & driving to improve continuously so as to minimize mistakes & move closer to “perfection”…This is life & it’s what we do if we are to be “players” in whatever “game” it is that we are competing in..It’s nice to enter a world where this isn’t the case..A world where you can speak your mind without worrying about being penalized(or rewarded)..A world where you can agree to dissagree & not worry about the repercussions of your words(provided your words adhere to a civalized tone)…A world like MGS..And a contest like this…Improving the product review system is one thing, for obvious reasons…”Improving” this contest or the “criteria” & level of deservedness for it’s winner is quite another..Let the individuals who orchestrated & implemented this contest decide its future…Hopefully they will keep it’s future as altruistic as this first award seemed to be..And again Moecat, great job..None were more deserving!..Nuff said..Fairways & Greens 4ever….

      Congrats, Moe! Definitely well deserved.

Great prize package, too! Any of those prizes on their own would be a great reason to join the forum, if you haven’t already, and join in some of the great conversations that are going on.
