There are always some interesting things to see at the PGA Show.  Most of what you will see in this section will be a mix of accessories, apparel and golf gadgets.  But we have also included some of the wacky items you come across when walking the seemingly endless isles at the Show.  As you can see by the picture above ;)

Adams Golf

adams golf 2010 pga show

Adams Golf has been a MGS favorite for quite some time now and their new products are quite nice.  I love this hybrid…I think it is one of the best looking hybrids ever to been designed.  Be on the lookout on our site for some new prototypes from Adams soon as well.

AXIS 1 Putters

axis 1 2010 pga show

Nothing new this year from Axis 1 in regards to putter designs…but they did have a nice piece of testing equipment built to test out their putter torque philosophy.  We will have more info on this soon.  And in regards to impressive designs…this putter might look odd but there is a reason it is still winning awards.  The putter does feel great during the stroke…just wish they had a model that was not cast.  They plan on some new designs this year that we will surely be giving you a sneak-peek of.

Bettinardi Putters

Bettinardi has a whole new line-up for 2010 and some new 100% milled belt buckles as well.  I still think this guys might have the cleanest lines in the business.

Bobby Grace Putters

bobby grace 2010 pga show

Bobby Grace has all kinds of new putters flying out of his shop lately.  Including the one above which a MyGolfSpy reader got to name.  Got to be pretty cool for the winner of the contest Rob to see his name on this new stick.

Bridgestone Golf

bridgestone 2010 pga show

Bridgestone Golf’s J series is hoping to make a major impression on the US market this year.  And we look forward to testing their new gear out this year to let you know how good it is.  I have always been impressed with their R&D and craftsmanship.

Callaway Golf

callaway 2010 pga show

Callaway has not put out the best drivers over the last few years…but this year they have a couple good ones and one great one and that is the FT-9 Tour.  The FT-9 Tour  is in our top 3 drivers we hit at the show.

Cleveland Golf

cleveland 2010 pga show

This years hit for Cleveland I think will be the new Bronze series of putters that are a classic line-up all at only $89.  If you are in the market for a classic it is hard to go wrong with one of these.  And oh yeah…I can’t forget their laser milled grooves which are the other technology they are offering for ’10.

Cobra Golf

cobra 2010 pga show

A lot of people might not think of Cobra first when they go to buy a driver…but they continue to put out one solid driver after another.  The new ZL and S2 drivers both performed very well for us.  I also liked the new Baffler with rails 3 wood…but I will have to get it on the launch monitors to really put it to the test next.

Edel Putters

edel putters 2010 pga show

I have to say that this year Edel putters might have impressed me most out of all the putter manufacturers.  I think he takes the correct approach to fitting from everything I have seen from the man behind these putters.  Only reason you don’t see more of his stuff is because he business model requires you to be fit in order to get one of his putters. A couple of the major OEM’s have contacted him about his designs but they are only interested in the bottom line which his system is not based on.  Unfortunate because his craftsmanship is second to NONE.

Fisher Putters

fisher putters 2010 pga show

You might have forgotten about Fisher putters but they are still alive and kickin’.  Putters have not changed much over the last few years…but from what we were told they have a revolutionary design coming soon.  We will just have to wait and see.  They do have an very interesting insert in the face of the existing models.  It is actually 3-sided and can be flipped around to give you different materials for feel and speed.

Founder’s Club

founders golf 2010 pga show

Not a whole lot going on at Founder’s Golf these days to be honest…which is a shame…this is another brand that used to be known for making some of the best gear around.  They do have a new line but not much was being shown at the show.  Only thing of note for us was this putter line which even that has a stark resemblance to a Mizuno putter that I just cannot remember the name of to save my life.

Fourteen Golf

If you have not heard of Fourteen Golf you should definitely try to demo their sticks.  They make a nice set of irons and have a couple good wedges as well.  This MT28 V5 (pictured above) is their new wedge for 2010.  We will try to get some of them to review for you guys soon.

Heavy Putter (And Also Heavy Wedge)

Heavy Putter has a great concept that plan now to carry throughout an entire line-up.  We swung the new wedge during the show and it felt great.  We look forward to getting a couple soon to put through the ringers.  We also noticed someone checking out their new gear…recognize him anyone?

Maruman Golf

Maruman Golf is known for their elaborate finishes and details to their designs.  More geared towards the Japanese…but they still always seem to have a nice presence at the shows every year.

MD Golf

MD Golf is quite popular across the pond but just starting to try and make a name for themselves here in the US.  I am interested in hitting a few of their clubs.  I liked the look of the wedges and a couple of their putters as well.

Mitchell Golf

Mitchell golf has almost always been known for making some of the best machinery for the industry.  Their loft/lie machines are world famous…everything they make is top notch stuff.  And for all you guys out ther that use their stuff…they just went Digital!  That means all their new gauges will have digital displays like the one above.  Nice new feature!

Mizuno Golf

mizuno 2010 pga show

It’s no secret to long time MGS readers that I feel Mizuno is one of the best iron makers out if not THE best.  Year in and year out they put out what I think could almost always be ranked the best iron in its category.  And their wedges have tested with us right now to be in the Top 2 of all the wedges we have tested this year as well.

Ping Golf

I cannt say enough positive things about Ping and how they run their operation.  I respected Mr. Karsten and I think his sons have continued to do a tremendous job carrying on some foot steps that were tough to follow in.  And every year I might not like the looks of their drivers and irons aesthetically but every year they improve on their previous designs.  Which can’t be said by many of the OEM’s.  Kudos Ping on another great couple of drivers and irons for golfers!

PowerBilt Golf

Powerbilts new technology is actually now 2 yrs old.  It is the nitrogen compression technology..where they actually fill the head with nitrogen.  This years driver was a nice improvement over last years nitrogen charged driver.  Did not get a chance to hit any of their irons though.  The driver is worth a try…I am sure you will start seeing the infomercials soon if not already.

Remember when Slotline was a household name in the golf industry?  Well they are doing their best to bring that back.  They are putting out some pretty nice stuff and the guys behind the business are a great group of people as well which is almost as important to me.  I wish Chad and all the people at Slotline the best of luck this year!

STX Putters

TRU Ball Putters

tru ball 2010 pga show

Ok…these guys had some interesting technology in their putters.  They actually come from the archer industry and so does a couple of their concepts for their designs…but it does not end there.  All their designs create a sense of focus when you address the ball by making everything scope like.  Going from bigger to smaller at the striking point.  They also have a weight adjustment technology that allows you to switch thew weight you see to give you either a face-balanced head or a toe hang putter.  They also had a new slot technology which pushes the vibrations to the outsides of the head…made for a nice feeling putter despite the looks.

Vokey Wedges

vokey 2010 pga show

The Vokey wedges have improved year in and year out for the past few years and this year is no different in my opinion.  The Cleveland name which was once the only wedge people thought of now has some major competition and are no longer the only wedge talked about in conversation when talking about the best wedges in the game…Vokey has put his name right along side of them.  And I loved his displays which gave an insight into the construction of how they are all made.  It was a nice touch.

Williams F1 Golf

Every year there is always one company that tries to burst onto the golf scene which until then was an unheard of in the business.  And this year that company was Williams Golf…with their $50,000 set of irons…which if you purchase they will fly their fitter anywhere in the world to fit you for the set of irons.  And oh yeah…you also get tickets to a Forumals 1 race.  That is the industry they come from and they are bringing their knowledge of aerodynamics now to the golf industry.

“Actually the irons do have a nitrogen pocket Rob”.
Wow, I will definately have to do more reading about that. Powerbilt was my first set of serious irons and 10/12 years later the particular TPS design was years ahead of other companys.
When you visited the Pirahna booth did they have any of their Fat Boy headcovers around ?
Not sure if you are familiar with it, but it was a cartoonish pirhana done up Daphne style.
To this day it had to be one of the most outrageous hadcovers that any OEM ever had for a driver.

MSG – questions, questions questions but first allow me to address the Scratch putter weld on the hosel. I am almost 100% sure that if you wanted a seamless transition that Ari & Co. ill do it.
Powerbilt – the new irons have nitrogen printed on the back. I didn’t follow the link but am assuming its just a marketing nod and that the irons don’t have a nitro pocket ?
The Odyssey Backfire strongly reminds me a a terrfic but funky putter that Styx came out with a few years ago, name eludes me – I tried the black insert – great rolling putter.
Bettinardi – love their brand – did they stop using the F.I.T insert ? I thought it offered great feel when I used it. If there was ever a putter I lusted for it is the BCC.
Lots of bling on display with the Mills,Scratch,Vokey pics. If the Vokey stampings were done by hand I feel sorry for the guy who did them. Had to take a heck of a lot of time and God help him if he missed (ouch).
Oh yeah – Fisher Putters. Ran across their site a few years back and was intrigued by the color and design. Glad to see that they are stil in business – somebody obviously likes them. You just don’t see them in the stores and have never run into one in a Pro shop. Any idea of how/where market them ?
Thanks again for the great work – rob

Actually the irons do have a nitrogen pocket Rob.

I agree on the stamps…that is tedious work and with so many you have to have a steady hand with the hammer.

The Fisher putters are still around although today’s marketing environment has changed drastically and I think that them along with many other great golf product owners just don’t understand how to get it in front of a lot of golfers without paying major advertising which is not needed as much anymore.

I am sure Bettinardi might make some more putters with those inserts and I am sure he will do some short runs and limited edition stuff that does. Never know what he will come out with during a season…especially with the advantage of having the machines he has at his disposal.

For the Scratch putter…a lot of people like welds nowadays but yes they could surely make one without it. It is there more to show craftsmanship then anything else when a designer does this and is also easier then sometimes milling it out of one piece or putting any type of hosel shape on any head you want.

as much as i like SCRATCH golf, that putter is sloppy+boring. SEEMORE has a nice new addition but i’ve never been much on that eye line/red dot thing. somebody tell SLOTLINE that the taylor made tourismo did’nt sell and this wont either. i like the NIKE method and think it will move many units, unlike the ODYSSEY backstrike which i feel will be a dust collector,

Yeah the Scratch look is all about the rugged hand-made traditional look. Some guys dig it…some like something a little more fancy. They definitely have a niche though…they are growing rather quickly.

The mizuno mp630 driver I have tested 14 days ago and I think it will be much better than the mp600. And the mp600 was really good. The best is that the weights can be adjusted more towards the face. And I think this can be good for playability of the club for the better players.

Already have most of the stuff in store or already on order. T^he Golf Industry Show in San Diego is what I am going to check out next week in your neck of the woods. Are you going to be at it? Better golfing in San Doego. Ball flies farther on the West Coast.

The Mizuno MP630 driver looks alot better than the previous MP600 did. Its amazing how that little bit of red can change the entire look of the driver….Now that ive seen an actual photo of the odyssey backstrike putter id have to say i dislike it even more…looks like it would be the most awkward thing ever, and i cant think of what it is suppose to help with…Mizuno’s new lineup is the most impressive out of any company in recent memory…they dont have a bad looking club.
