PEEP SHOW! – 2012 Nike Golf Gear

SHOCKED BY NIKE IN 2012!

Gotta say a few months ago I was looking to be extremely shocked by one of the new 2012 Nike golf equipment releases.  And I was!  But not because of the driver which is what I thought might shock me and most of you as well. The biggest shock to me about the 2012 Nike product line is actually a putter.  It’s called the Nike Method Concept and I have to say this one looks…well…interesting. Truly the oddest putter I have seen a major OEM release in quite some time.  More info and goodies coming on the Nike Method Concept  soon…

Couple other new buzz words you’re going to be hearing out of the Nike camp for their early 2012 releases will be:

  • NexCOR – new face technology
  • The Letter “S” –  the “s” in VRs is for speed…following the industry trend they are going lighter and more aerodynamic
  • NEW! STR8-FIT – a much simpler and sleek form of adjustability from Nike in 2012
  • Limited Edition – they will releasing a couple new limited edition model drivers and fairway woods.  This will keep the guys that prefer glue over adjustability happy .

Improved STR8-FIT & Hopefully Feel

Over the last year or so it would be an understatement to say that we have been pleasantly surprised by the performance of Nike equipment in our “Ultimate Review System”.

So we hope some things don’t change.

But…while the styles of the new line-up might not look that much different…and might not look like they have changed much.  One thing I do hope they changed in regard to performance for some of their products is “feel”.  A couple road blocks they have is the appearance of their STR8-FIT technology and the feel of their drivers.  If they get those fixed I think Nike Golf might surprise some people at how well they start to move off shelves.  But like I said we will have to wait and see.

So…Which of the new 2012 Nike products are you most looking forward to trying?

Well, As a pro at a golf course I am sponsored by another company. We had a demo day here and spoke to my rep and was going up and down the line. That day I had the chance to hit from almost every manufacturer out there (Callaway, Titleist. taylormade, Ping, Nike, Mizuno and even Nickent). Well, after hitting everyone and not really ever giving Nike much thought. I decided to hit some. Now if you go on looks alone for clubs, you really are missing the point of hitting a club. I am hear to tell you a white crown on a driver or any club does not make a lick of difference. I personally cannot remember the last time the glare from my driver blinded me so bad I thought to myself “boy I wish this was painted white.” Anyway, I was impressed with the VR line. VRs included. So much so, I am now a Nike pro endorsee. I loved the company who I endorsed for years, but I have to say Nike put out a better product. Most may not like the resale value, but that is because of the sell through on today’s market. IF more people gave it a try like I did and bought more, then resale would be higher. Do not judge by looks alone, and do not take my word for it. Go to a demo day and try this out. REALLY try it and give the clubs a chance. I am glad I did!

Just tried the 2012 Nike golf clubs and are they spectacular. I currently play the VR Pro Cavity with a 5.5 Project X shaft. The new S line of FORGED is first class and I can’t wait to get my irons, hybrids, fairway woods and driver along with the new Drone putter. I spent an hour hitting all their new clubs, but these are the ones I settled on. I currently carry a single digit handicap (9) and have made the transition from blades to cavity. Before you dig your heels in and say these things are ugly and you will never by them, hit before you speak.

      Bump,
I don’t think anyone could have said it better. I would have to agree with you. I hit them and fell in love with them. I have tried other clubs and I am not knocking the other clubs, but I have decided that Nike has been the clubs to get me down to a 9 handicap and I will continue to use them.

Isn’t the Drone what Susanne Petterson used in the Solheim Cup? She made 3 birdies in a row to wind her match. It isn’t a putter for me, but I can see where in a world of belly/long putters, etc. it fits in

Nike golf gear is exceptional. I’ve used it for the past few years and currently use the Pro Combo irons, V-Rev wedges, method core CS putter, VR Pro hybrid, and VR driver and 3 wood. Love all of it and it performs beautifully.

Hatch I have hit the nike combos and they r fine but are in no way shape or form as good as ben hogan apex and titleist irons from the 90s neither are the titleist irons 710s today fr that matter, they are not made as good today as they were then ,the only benefit from modern tech is the big ti drivers and the hybrids and the golf balls other than that these goofy looking plates rubber what ever they are are certainly not helping these clubs play better and Im sure you and everyone knows that. All it is is lazy china manufacturing cuzz it cost these oems more money to have them engraved in the back of the club.

I know we dont hit it wth back of the club but lets be honest here where is this new technoligy in irons everyone at my club still use eye2 irons.tin plates and rubber cushions certainly dont make you swing better its all cosmetic, Although THE WEIGHT PORT IN BACK OF SOME OF THESE NEW CLUBS FR WEIGHTING IS A VERY GOOD IDEA I WILL SAY THAT.

To Slig and Dal you gys are right at some points but as you both know the majority of the people especially in these golf threads rather have clean looking clubs not stickers and tin plates, all that does is cheapin the look of the product ,maybe those clubs r pretty good but what is the point of tin plates and stickers on clubs these days it makes it look cheap as hell and if u two cant see that that then u two must not have played golf in the 80s and 90s when clubs were made to look normal and not something that looks right out of Kmart. Im willing to bet every single golfer rather have the looks of a ping eyes 2 iron instead of the plated i15 cheap look period. Not to mention that feel wise the i15 feels like crap compared to eye 2.

Ron I beg to differ I agree that some players want a classic look, thats why nike makes blades. Just cause we got a peek at nike line for next year doesn’t mean that will be your only option. As for wanting something that resembles the 80’s or 90’s I have to say I prefer the modern look. If everything stayed the same then who would push the technology further. If companies adopted your logic we would all still be hitting woods literally. I for one say try new technologies, give me something different, as long as you are making progress. Besides I think too much is put on what a club looks like. Why are you looking at the back and bottom of a club anyway? Last I checked you hit the ball with the face of the club and I didn’t see any stickers there.

If these things give me 10 extra yards and are more forgiving then you can have your classic looking Ping and I’ll beat you any day of the week.

You old people can speak for yourselves, but I wouldn’t say this new Nike VRs line pushes the envelope as far as some of you are making it seem.

Nike has brought some new and exciting technologies to the sport of golf. Not only that, but Nike has also done a tremendous job at offering great looking players clubs to those who prefer a more traditional look.

So… to the old people again; keep hating.

I’m excited to get my hands on some of the new line. Thanks MGS

When I first viewed the pix above a day ago, I thought the new Nike offerings looked just OK, but not anything I might consider buying. However today, they are looking a little better to my eye and the new VR Forged irons and Method Concept Putter are starting to look especially sweet! (Yes, my 1st thought was the Method looks an awful like the Scotty Futura)

I would also like to try out the new hybrid, and I’ve always wanted to try out their wedges (maybe when my Clevelands and Vokey expire) i currently play Taylormade, but I say Go Nike!

The irons and the hybrid don’t do much for me. I am however really looking forward to the VR forged faced driver. The JDM forged mach speed face changes the feel of the mach speed line for the better and I’m hoping it does the same for the VR.

When will this company finally drop this vr crap and use different names fr their equipment Im so sick and tired of this vr this vr that enough already wth the VR line gtting old now dont ya think. Besides the gys on tour aint gonna touch this new crap except maybe the driver. Stop making golf clubs and putters look like something from outer space, dont they know that turns people off, make it clean looking or dont do it at all, after those pics I had to go barf.

If it really turned people off like you said it does, they would be losing money, not making it. I doubt a company like Nike would continue to do something that loses them money.

Just because YOU don’t like something doesn’t mean that someone else will agree with you.

Also, Ford should drop that dumb Mustang moniker. Mustang this, Mustang that. The Mustang line is getting kind of old, don’t you think? No, it isn’t. It’s branding. There’s a reason names get “reused.”

Try not to barf too much, your larynx will collapse.

thanks mike i need the backup since nike golf is so small in S-A. people just need to try it to see what it is really able to do.
I like what you said about the product and i believe they need to do what titleist and ping have been doing for ages( in my eyes) and i feel that means -finding a good product like the 2011 pro combos, for the lower handicap player, and the pro-cavity for the mid to high handicap player- and just slightly changing it and tweaking it for better performance and esthetics. I think the most important thing about clubs is the ability to customise the product to suit the player.

I have always liked the under dog and i think NIKE golf is the under dog thats gonna become something special. i feel it just needs to stick to something that works to break into the same ranks as the old guys (taylor made, titleist, callaway etc.)

Nike have the wins to back it up.

The 2011 sets that nike came out with were perfect. From the vr driver, all of the forged blades or pro combos, the 2010/2011 method putters, and the vr wedges were a step foward with nike. I gobbled up all these products and threw them in my bag. Just glad I didn’t wait six months for something better to come out, if this is what the nike has got to offer in 2012. Nikes biggest problem is they want to be different. I think nike is searching for “ITS R11” so to speak, but its not gonna be in these prototypes, I can assure you! I love Nike and always will though! Nike for life…

      Mike,
Very well put. The problem with most of these comments is that they probably have never tried Nike products and are not aware of what Nike products are capable of doing. Demo the clubs and try them out and then leave a comment. I have been playing since 1999 and every set of clubs I’ve ever owned have been Nike.

I am a single figure golfer from south africa using the machspeed black driver and i realy like it. i wanted to go to the vr pro driver, but it was a little too dificult to hit so i think the new driver that looks like a mix between the two makes a lot of sence, just wish the face was a little more round.
sorry to say, but i h@te the machspeed fairway because it goes nowhere and the hybrid is like a cheep looking girl on a corner hooking all day long.
have to go to the new vr s range, looks great.
hybrid looks like a razr hawk hybrid and those were the bomb.
Just wish people would stop thinking they are such purists and nike can’t make clubs cause they are the next big thing in golf.

I wish there were more pics, and the angle wasn’t so unusual. The new irons do look like the Machspeeds, though I expect they won’t be quite as large (at least not the forged). Is Nike getting rid of the SQ/Machspeed line or is that stuff just not getting sneak-peeked?

I’m most curious to learn the idea behind that Method Concept putter…pretty far-out looking.

It’s hard to say these are ugly or good looking, mostly because the angles are awful (probably done to add mystique), and also the fact that sometimes things look like ass in photos and amazing in real life, or vice versa.

Also, Nike has always had a more concept/sporty look to their clubs, so I don’t see where this outrage is coming from. Isn’t this pretty standard fare for Nike? And won’t this make them millions of dollars?

I have no opinion yet. They could be awful and gaudy. I just don’t see them being that terrible.

Wow….you guys are just pathetic. I don’t think you even know how big of an impact Nike has on the industry. Or even how club design works. Nike usually have their technologies set for the next three years, and that means that Nike allways is going to be at the most innovative brand out there. If that means that you guys don’t like their design, then f…. of og get a life!!!

Too bad that you’ll allow dogma to keep you from demoing Nike clubs…they are amongst the very best drivers, hybrids and long irons around…especially for the amateur as they are long and forgiving…even their older models outhit newer clubs from other OEMs , I find.

What dogma? What Nike business philosophy? By “principle” I would think Matt means their business practices. In such case you have used the word “Dogma” incorrectly, and btw “amongst” is used incorrectly as well. Off issue I know, but it’s hard to take a rebuttal serious when the English grammar is so hacked up.
