SPY PICS! – 2012 Scotty Cameron Putters

You A Scotty Fan?

You a Scotty fan?  A Scotty Cameron collector?  If so…I think your pockets might just get a little lighter in 2012.  The 2012 Scotty Cameron line-up in my opinion is a good one.

Yeah…they’re just modifications of past designs…but when it comes to modifying and tweaking past designs I would agree with many collectors out there…that there isn’t anybody in the business that does it better then Scotty Cameron.  It’s a shame too….because I feel like some of his best work from a true design standpoint has been when he did think outside the box and do a completely original design.

Up to this point I’ve never been a huge fan of new putter lines being released that only have very simple modifications and/or a new finish.  I mean when you think about it…who couldn’t do that…right? But do you really blame the popular putter design gurus out there?  They’ve been doing it for years and the reason is pretty simple.  That’s what golfers keep buying…so why would a putter designer try to think outside the box and be inspired to innovate?  Especially when simply re-creating past designs with slight modifications sell better then actual innovative ones?

Which You In? – Camp Love’em (or) Camp Hate’em

Almost every golfer is aware that Cameron is a polarizing figure on the web.  The golf gear heads seem to either be in Camp Love’em or Camp Hate’em.  But if you were to ask those that hate’em…why they actually do…they rarely come up with anything of substance.  The main answer you get from that group is the fact that they feel he copies everybody else’s designs.  And my answer to them is always the same…so does almost every other putter designer…do you have as much hate for them?  And most of them look at me and say something like, “Yeah I see your point.”  Of course there are other reasons he seems to be so polarizing to the putter fanatics out there…and I am sure I will hear quite a few of them in my inbox.  But…I got no dog in this fight and no reason to be in either camp.  And the one thing I can say is…Scotty Cameron knows what he is doing and he does it well.  There isn’t much arguing that.  And the ones that do are most likely a putter designer themself or for whatever reason have a smiggen of jealousy because of his popularity.

2012 Scotty Cameron Line-Up (Sneak-Peek)

On to the putters.  For all you Scotty fans out there that have been looking for info on his new 2012 line-up…and by the amount of emails I get there are lots.  Here are a few spy pics of a couple of the models he will be releasing.  These putters are replacing the California series…and there will be 5 models.

  • Monterey (with plumber’s neck)
  • Fastback
  • Del Mar
  • Sonoma
  • Monterey 1.5

P.S.

The next set of Scotty’s that replace the three-dot Studio Select series will feature all black heads and a teryllium insert.

Name another putter that has as many models on ebay selling for more than the original price than Scotty Cameron. Not only are they the finest putters in the world, they increase in value and are an investment. Buy an odessey and one of these new tour rat putters and put them both in the closet for ten years and see which one is worth more than you paid…..

Got to say I’m a Scotty fan, which can be expensive as I’m in Australia. Having said that I will use whatever I feel good over at the time which also includes Ansers, Wilson blade and Aussie made Dint putters.
I’m not sold on these, and wouldn’t bother with new models unless they offered something more than a rejig. Next putter might be the Odyssey PT 82 as it sits beautifully and offers a little different balance to other putters I’ve tried.

Let’s see, pretty much the same OK putters with added bling. Probably prices will be increased. No tech. Scotty gets an A+ for 21st century marketing.

Just put my beloved Scotty RED-X in the garage for a Bobby Grace!

I luv the Cameron marketing – head covers / pitch-repair tool (Best in the biz & will never be retired) / styling, and loved the putter.

I’ve got a PING Anser in the rack too, but the AMG 18 Blade is fantastic – weighted with so much feel, the RED-X is just going to be there to say “I have one” from now on.

Don’t knock them for being successful, or copying – if it wasn’t just about money and sponsorship on tour, the pro’s would be all using Ping or the smaller brands custom made to their likes!

Scotty Cameron does not impress me. His major concern in my opinion has always been to build up his brand so as to charge inflated prices for his putters. He has tried to mystify the performance of his putters when in reality they are made from ordinary materials with designs that have been largely “borrowed” from other makers.
His custom fitting venture is nothing more than an attempt to win back market share because many golfers realize his putters are overpriced, overhyped and frankly nothing special.
Scotty cares about profits, not about your or my game. He is a pretender, top to bottom.

There are only a select few companies that really care about the consumer, and those would be the smaller brands that don’t produce as much revenue but are more about quality and perfection. If you honestly think that callaway, ping, nike, or titleist care about your game than u need a check-up. Don’t bash on scotty because he makes money; all of the other major brands make the same profit and use the same designs as him. Every brand borrowed from Karsten Solheim and it is a well known fact.

Well said. Everyone has borrowed from Karsten. I’m in the business and find some backlash against Cameron but I believe there is no finer tool for the job of putting. My bad back has virtually taken me out of the game of golf but my wedges and gamer Scotty Cameron Newport 2.0 putter has kept me in it.

I realize that all business is about making profits. I’m not that silly. What I was pointing out was the missrepresntation of his intentions. Cameron will point out that spending big money on his putters is a great investment in your game. His stuff is way overpriced, period.
Yes a lot,or all of the big OEM’s set prices as high as the market will stand. Cameron just annoys me as he constantly portrays himself as a nice guy who cares about his customers. All he cares about is taking their money. Taking premium profits for stuff that dosen’t cost any more to produce than similar items that are half the retail price from others.
As always the market has the final say. Cameron is successful and has done well. Dosen’t change the fact that he is a charleton and a rip off merchant.

You Scotty Cameron bashers (especially oldplayer) don’t have a clue what you are talking about. Scotty is a guy who just loves to make putters. Pure and simple. His putter designs took off, and now due to supply and demand, they are priced a little higher than most. I would not consider them overpriced at all. Off the rack camerons are in the 300.00 dollar range right now. Competitors prices are now well over 200.00. If you don’t want to pay the extra, then don’t. I have a tour cameron I payed over 2000.00 for and I would not use anything else. Everyone has a choice, and I chose to buy an expensive putter that I feel confident using. To me that is priceless. And just because he is making money does not mean he doesn’t care about his customers. He is a very genuine person, and if you met him, and possess any judgement of character, you would realize that. I get that people are entitled to their opinions, but I believe in, “if you don’t have anything nice to say….don’t say anything at all”

I have come to the conclusion that putters are terribly over-hyped. Over the years we have seen the best tour players migrate from one design to another only to come back to their first true love. I have a Scotty but it’s an oldie. The best thing is get aligned correctly, practice a lot and have confidence it will go in. If not, accept you are getting older. When I was in my twenties I made putts from everywhere. But I three putted way more. Now I rarely three putt but rarely make anything over 10 feet. Go figure.

I’m drooling. I love the Monterey style, but didn’t like the gold finish and I much prefer the sight line to the circle/dot on the Circa 62. Also, the black putters described sound sweet. I prefer a darker finish, but hopefully, it’s not too shiny. Even the Odyssey black ice seemed to shiny, IMO. Thanks for the pics!

I agree with SB. I love Scottys, and I can’t play em. I moved to a C-groove YES! putter and really saw a difference, I started holing putts I used to stand over and almost know I would miss. Since I dont care who makes putts and doesn’t I dont know why I would convince anyone. (I actually like watching my brother in law miss with his Ghost)

Just a little P-Oed because I have a 2011 model Del mar on the way right now. The new ones look much better without the ugly “Titleist” script in the cavity.

I love Scottys, no matter what they look like, but I just can’t play em. I switched from a blade to an Odyssey Black Series i 2 ball last season and my putting is the best it’s ever been, if not better.
