I played baseball with the Met’s & Brave’s and own the college baseball record for positions played in a season. I have over 1,000 career HR’s. I hit more Home Runs with a TPX & Rawling’s bat in college then with a Louisville or Easton. The “least” with Easton. Modern technology is what this is about and none of the current irons slice in to the lie. These are good clubs naturally but like Easton just because it’s made in the USA doesn’t make it better compared to concrete houses over wood. “I will hufff & puff & blow your house down” and the little oinker said “never” and “anti-american”.

AP1’s “look” the best hands down. More effort was put in the model and it shows followed by the AP2. However I’m sure the thinner faces cut in to the lie a little better, common aerodynamic sense.

Just try 712 CB/MB/ap2 – all awsome, and compared to 710 series, I feel that Titlest make a great improvement in terms of the hit feel of irons – the feel indeed is mixed with solidness of the Titlest classics and softness of forged irons – great, go Titltest.

I currently have the Cobra S3 Pro CB Forged model 4-9 (all CB’s no MB’s). I’m hitting the 712 AP2 and CB on October 15th at the Sleepy Hollow Titleist Fitting Center in NY to compare vs the Cobras. That’s the first day their fitting professionals have them. I will report back here after I hit them. I like the Cobras very much except for the chunky sole on the club with zero grind on it. It is also shorter heel to toe than the 712’s which actually does make them a tad less forgiving than my old Titleist 690.CB’s. The Cobra S3’s also have less offset than either the AP2 or 712’s. No idea why cobra would put such a fat sole on a players iron.

The satin finish is pretty, and probably does a nice job reducing glare, but I can’t really say if I’d buy them or not because I don’t really care how they look from behind, address is what matters.

I currently own three sets of titleist irons the AP2, MB, and the CB’s I love all three sets and will most likely buy all three new sets when they hit the market! I love the satin finish and the new look. Believe it or not the MB’s are more forgiving than people think and can’t wait to get my hands on all three sets.

It would be cool if Titleist would make more clubs for regular dudes. There’s no way I could hit those things. Seems every time I see a new Titleist product it’s for tour-level guys. I understand that having your tour players perform well makes your brand look good, but if regular guys try to use that same equipment and don’t improve (or actually get worse because they’re not using equipment suited for their game) then they’ll stop buying your stuff, right?

Doesn’t bother me at all. First of all there just another clubhead on the market. They will be overpriced as usual but every OEM company does that. Second they will always be a taper tip shaft model and the std shaft will be stiff. They will never be properly custom fit to the average joe blow but the pro’s will get the best of everything. They may look nice but I would rather buy a set of irons to use instead of buying to keep on the shelf and look pretty

The 710’s were released to the pros in the summer/fall of 09 and the public in February 10. Titleist seems to be following the same schedule. The general public won’t see these en masse until February 2012. So yes, that is still a two year cycle.

While the 712 line-up are indeed great looking/performing irons, I would have to agree with a few of the comments above regarding the Titleist brand….I would say that Titleist is indeed a Caddy, with Mizuno being a Benz & Miura being a Rolls….You can also throw in Epon & Fourteen for your Lexus & Infinity comparison…Bottom line is the great companies/forgings do not introduce new irons annually because technological advances do not come @ this pace for the forged marketplace…I played my FG17s blades for 13 years & only switched because my swing changed & I needed more forgiveness than a MB could give….While Titleist still caters to the better player, it’s a shame that they feel the need to go down the road of Callaway, Taylor Made, Nike, etc., with iron-a-year introductions…Titleist would be hard pressed to show that the 712 series is technologically superior to their present irons, yet that is the job of the marketing department, to bring a gullible public to the trough…………

I’m looking forward to trying the AP1 and 2’s out and seeing how they’re different from the 710’s. Mostly I’m hoping some of the harshness of the AP1’s have been filtered out.

I know Titleist is the tradition company but I’m also hoping to see some of the higher end graphite shafts as options for these. The Program’s, Tour AD’s or the new PX’s would be a neat offering.

The CB’s an MB’s are gorgeous! Not the biggest fan of the ap2 and ap1 but I’m using the CBs anyway (695). If i’m honest i was hoping to see something diffrent – maybe a revival of the old Z-muscle and Z-cavity back (ZM and 695CB). Also not the fan of the big MB and CB symbol on both club lines.
As for the future i would really love to see a combo set from Titleist – from muscle to cavity back or even a ap2 for 3i and 4i but not necessary. Just revive the old ZB combo set with new finishes! That was my dream set, but i could play them yet at that time.

      The Titleist irons are nice.

It is another example of how there is no where else to go in design and innovation with the current rules. Along with the state of the economy, it seems companies are just simply updating their old designs.

I see a slight change in the AP1 and AP2 cavities, but would it be worth trading in an old set and purchase the new set. How much performance increase is there between the models?

CB and MB are practical identical to the previous models except for new cosmetics.

Titleist is definitely marketed to the better or avid player.

I like the Cavity Backs in terms of looks, they look edgy/modern. I don’t like satin, when i had chrome irons, i didn’t like the bling so I got some satin irons, but i found the satin irons harder to keep clean.

When I first started playing golf i had aspirations to play Titleist one day since there was prestige around the brand in the late 90s. Once i got there, i had learned about all the japanese brands and now i view Titleist along the lines of Lincoln and Caddy, old and tired, while brands like Epon and Miura are like BMW and Lexus, ultimate and sexy.

You have no idea what you’re talking about…As a red blooded American who drives a Chevy, has a 2011 Mustang GT in the garage and has played Titleist golf clubs since the late 1980’s I find it personally offensive that you are publically disrespecting some of the most iconic American brands that this great country has to offer…BMW’s are nice cars but they are not as dependible has a “Caddy” of a “Lincoln” as you describe them…I’d put a Town Car up against the best 4-door BMW or gay-Lexus anyday….And how dare you compare some Japanese golf company to the ultimate golf brand in the world(Titleist)..I know your type…You’re family is clearly not from this country…You may be a first generation American but I can assure everyone here that your family is not…If you don’t like what America has to offer why don’t you move to Japan and live there…

Titleist has been around golf a long time. Just because we are Americans doesn’t necessarily mean we have to buy Cadillac’s & Mustang’s. Naturally they are solid but not the best. It just shows you have money to buy the Titleist. “From here on out it is the golfer whom is the quality player”. I played with a guy who bought clubs from St. Andrews and he couldn’t hit worth a nickle on a quarter. Japan has the fastest car in the world the “GTR” with AWD control and the fastest launch & the Z is the most aerodynamic car in the world tied for #1 again with the Nissan GTR. The #1 LPGA player is Japanese and I don’t see trash on their golf courses compared to the states. That comment was rude and un-called for. I have a Mizuno driver and it hits more straight then my Titleist. I do note your patriotism and loyalty to well made products however. The #1 golfer in the world doesn’t use Titleist either. Just a thought to row on.

      Hector F.

The putter by Titleist is the same way. I don’t see Scotty Cameron with a #1 ranking or any where near it and he never was. It is like being in a Mustang Club or a Lamborghini club, the majority drive & use what the in-house player’s use. In house as long as you submit your-self to the organization and granted with Democracy we have the liberty to choose what we like with same performance not what you like.

      Brian

Actually Joey, I have to partly disagree with your statement. I am all for your Pro-American sentiments, and loyalty, and I myself am a devoted Titleist player, but we need to understand basic facts here. When you are comparing companies, please keep in mind that Titleist’s irons for a long time were produced by the best iron forgers in the world, and those are non other than ONO, based in Japan.

Both are appealing, but satin is sexier.
