(4) Testers Wanted: Callaway GBB Epic Driver

More speed, more distance and more control.

That may very well be the golfer’s Holy Trinity. When it comes to drivers, we often go to biblical lengths – and often spend biblical sums – to squeeze out a few more MPH in club head speed, a few more yards of distance and a bigger slice of the fairway.

Callaway firmly believes the 2017 GBB Epic driver delivers the goods, and so far the numbers show an awful lot of you agree, as Epic has been the number one selling driver in golf in the U.S. for the past three months.

The sales tell us one thing, and MyGolfSpy’s 2017 Most Wanted Driver Testing certainly confirms the Epic, while it may or may not be game-changing, is a pretty darned good driver. Cally’s flagship finished a close 2nd in the overall scoring, just a whisper behind the Srixon Z-565.

CALLAWAY-GBB-EPIC-DRIVERS

Testers Wanted:

Callaway’s Epic comes loaded with buzzwords and features, including Jailbreak technology, an Eco-Cage, Triaxial Carbon Speed-Step Crown for weight savings and improved aerodynamics and Adjustable Perimeter Weighting because, well, it’s Callaway and they can.

Can all this technology deliver on its promise? We need four of you to test and review (and keep) the Epic and tell us what you think.

Callaway Epic Driver - 1

What It Means To Be A MyGolfSpy Product Tester:

As you know, MyGolfSpy takes its product testing very seriously. All of our reader reviews are published in our Community Forum (click here to check them out). We expect a lot from our reviewers – writing a thorough, detailed and honest review is a full two-month commitment, requiring extensive range and on-course work as well as participation in the Forum itself to answer questions and discuss product performance with other golfers.

That means to be a potential reviewer you must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum, where you’ll find thousands of like-minded golfers from all over the world anxious to talk about golf equipment.

To apply to test, review and keep the Callaway BGG Epic driver, here’s what you have to do:

– First, if you haven’t already, please sign up for the MyGolfSpy Community Forum (click here to register).

– Second, apply ONLY in the Official Callaway Epic Driver Testers Wanted Thread in the Community Forum (click here).

The testers will be announced next week in the MyGolfSpy Community Forum.

Would love to test this driver. However, I’m probably going to buy it anyway. Since I started playing golf 13 years ago I have owned and used just about everything on the market. Testing clubs has become a passion of mine as I am on a quest to find the best hitting, best feeling, best sounding club that will make me want to settle down and be a one club man. 63 years old, currently a 19 handicap with the ability to go much lower. After a few years off as a result of having the same surgery as Tiger and overcoming balance problems due to vertigo, I’m back on the range every day. My surgeon said I would never swing a golf club again! I started hitting again January 2016. The first two months I couldn’t swing without falling down…literally thousands of times, but I persevered. During the course of the year my scores have come down from the hundreds, to the ninety’s, and now the mid to low eighties. I believe I will get to the upper seventies this summer. I don’t think I am a natural golfer but I believe passion, hard work, study and technology are the keys to continued improvement.

It would take a lot for me to switch from my cart barn find that out performed 9 other distinct options

      Callaway Ft-i 9.5
Fujikura speeder 686 “tour spec S-Flex made in Japan”

My total distance improved >5yds but <10yds however carry nearly matched my total distance with my Titleist with same speeder shaft but not made in Japan.

      I've played 29 rounds in 2017
I'm 34, hdcp 5, ss is between 108-117 depending on my biological factors on any given day
      I'm a data addict
I'd test bc I'm cheap, and would only spend $500 on a driver if I could take it out on the course in real world situations and hit it in the wind specifically.

I kinda hope you don't pick me. It'd be a part time job.

Ah. Same testers get chosen mostly and you can try to contribute and donate but it’s soon to non you’ll get picked. I saw a tester had his review page up before the dang winners were announced. Lol. I wanted to test those i200 irons more than anything. I donated money and contributed everyday 10 times a day. I’m no longer going to jump at every product. I do not want to test the epic. It’s not that epic

You must be thinking of another site, my man, ’cause what you said simply can’t happen. As for the i200’s, it’s math – over 1600 applicants, sorry we can’t pick everyone. Best of luck….

Ben S, what’s your screen name? And who are the “same testers?” and who had their review up before the announcement?
I too have donated, but that’s more for helping fund the site, a thanks for all of their work and as a way to help with buying equipment for testing versus seeing it as my way to buy into being a tester. I’ve been lucky to get chosen to test 2 items, the SwingByte and Big Max push cart, but haven’t been chosen for any clubs I’ve applied for. I’ve been involved in most Cobra One Length forum discussions on here and several on Cobra’s IG feed, demoed them and wrote about it the week they announced they were up for testing and have been very active on MGS for a few years, and guess what?? I didn’t get chosen, wished the selected 2 well wishes and look forward to the review.

      Reply

      Darren Tan

Think you must have confused MGS with another site. MGS has been nothing but transparent. I was selected randomly for a RJ putter even though I haven’t been donating for a while. After I won the putter, I donated a few times and also registered for a few testing sessions but wasn’t selected. I would never throw such an accusation at MGS ever.

definitely the right name.. i tested one and found an extra 50 metres and straighter than ever, probably not hard after using a 20 year old cobra driver though

Joey Bailey this was my best ever drive… bout a 15mph wind behind me and carried a hill that’s about 260 out, so it hit a ran about 40-50yds, but I’ll take it

I would love to try the new Epic Driver. I hit a 245 yd drive last weekend but I usually hit in the 220 range. Right now I am using the Callaway X-Hot 10.5 degree 60R graphite.
I have purchased a speed stick and am working on hip turn, lag, and acceleration through the impact zone!
