The Best Selling & Best Performing Drivers of 2015

While there will no doubt be some surprises before next season is over, we’ve seen the lion’s share of what manufacturers will be putting on shelves to start 2015.

Now it’s time for them to sell it, and the rest of us to test (and buy) it. Everything on this list will be invited to participate in MyGolfSpy’s Most Wanted 2015 Driver Test.

Sales vs. Performance

Over the next several months, manufacturers will do anything and everything they can to get your attention. Nobody is going to gamble that they can coast through a short winter.

Big money will be spent on the PGA Tour, commercials, and whatever other means a given company believes will influence you to spend your money on its products.

You and I, we need to figure out how to navigate the advertising and find our way to those products that might actually benefit our games, because we all know that what sells best doesn’t always perform best.

The titleist driver 915 with the properly fitted shat is the club to buy not that it it is going to make all the difference in the world but it is a really good driver the rest are just trying to be as good!

I bet Wilson will be one of the most accurate (fairway finder) in the bunch. They have a quality shaft also. It wont win a distance award, seems to never be chasing that, but the last three offerings from them have been solid. Im still gaming the D100 3 wood b/c it cant miss…ie… why it came in 2nd place last year in accuracy cat.

Does it matter? If your hitting driver 250 yards and are hitting fairways 60%
of the time why on earth would you buy a “new” driver? Ah, you not gaining 10 yards
when you’re hitting the ball consistently well. Instead, use the money to get on trackman and take lessons to hit fairways 70% Fairways = greens and greens = lower scores.
I thought the point of golf was to get lower scores, not to see who hits it longer into the woods.

The Williams MR Drivers will be the top selling driver for 2015. Being an engineering company, Williams have introduced new drivers that will surpass any other golfing manufacturer. They have introduced new technology like Modulus Rebound and Single Frequency Matching to the market.

logan What I meant by 300 dollars more is if you bought a used one fr 100 dollars now its identical than if you bought a new one now fr 300 bucks more, the new drivers today perform and go no farther than say a titleist driver or callaway one that came out in 2004 at 360 cc, you cant do no more to a driver since then. All the adjustability in the world now and they have and Phil Michelson and Tiger Woods still cant hit a fairway, they were better with the driver back then then they are with this adjustability today, thats proof alone.

Actually driver prices have stayed relatively unchanged over the past 10 yeas, even 15 years if you want to push it back that far. $300 more???? Come on, do your homework. The drivers from the major OEM’s were still at the same price points in the late 90’s all the way to now. We can even push back as far as the release of the Great Big Bertha by Callaway, $500 retail price tag and that was in 1997.

I didn’t take the survey. Why? I’m just not interested in a new driver per se’. I have a fairly new SLDR which was gifted to me this past summer. It’s nice and I hit it pretty good I suppose. Prior to that I was hitting a PING Rapture which I loved. I’m singing a new tune these days. It’s called Professional Fitting. Back in the early spring of 2014 I decided to (finally) get properly fit and purchase a custom built set of irons. I did that in August. Best investment I’ve ever made in my game. It took me a short period of adjustment to get my distances down and a comfortable feel for ball flight. My game and ball striking have defiantly improved. Next up is to take my drivers and fairway woods and have them properly fit/adjusted or I’ll purchase new customs. I’ll most likely play these irons for many many years. I don’t get why so many people buy into all the hype the Mfgs. spew out. It’s a scam.

I agree with most who predict the Taylor Made R-15 will be the top seller, but unlike most I think the Cobra will be the best performer.

I’m a Taylor Made fan, at least for drivers. I believe the biggest seller will be the Callaway V series because from everything I’ve read it is a top performer for all levels and come the spring the price will drop as compared to the newer entries (and I am not saying that to bash Callaway, quite the opposite). Best performer will be the Cobra Fly Z because they have been nipping at the big dog’s heels, and this entry is a big re-design for them and they have a stable of stock shafts that can fit a lot of swings.

There are so many good drivers out there or soon to be. Its going to be a busy year for you guys testing them all. I think all the major OEM’s have stepped it up its going to come down to brand preference for most people. I’m a TM fan so I am excited about the R15 and Aeroburner series. Aeroburner driver probably not for me but I am seriously interested in the fairway and hybrids.

I find it funny that your site posts articles about the hype around the newest drivers and how companies are out of touch with consumer needs. Yet here you are promoting the newest 2015 drivers and suggesting we go out and buy those new drivers. It’s disappointing.

I think that the Taylormade will be the best selling, but I think that the callaway Xr, given how much I loved the X2 hot pro demo at my course, will perform the best. That club combined with the project X shaft set at 8.5, I don’t know what it was, but I could not miss with it. If the Xr is any better, then it will be amazing. Too bad I already bought the SLDR.

I’m looking forward to seeing the performance of the mizuno 850 and Cobra Fly Zs ( adjustable weight versus non) as well as the Tour Edge 8. Mizuno started the adjustable sliding weights waaaaaay before TMAG with the 650 back in ’07, but TMAG made it popular. Unfortunately, mizuno’s iron success hasn’t carried over to the woods yet…..but this 850 is a sexy beast. TMAG will out sell everyone because that’s what they do and from what I’ve seen, TMAG lovers tend to “upgrade” frequently. I agree with Callaway being a big loser, they just keep making Berthas with new names ( can there really be that much different tech in each one?). I LOVE me my cobra AMPs and want to demo the Mizuno and Cobra Fly Zs to see if makes any difference, but being a high capper, not sure it’s worth it until i can increase my consistency. I think Tour Edge will be a surprise, and Cobra will continue to rise.

      Wow!
So this is an interesting question. I find myself really thrown over the coals with this one. While I think the big guys (TM, Cally, Titleist, etc) will try to get everyone to think they are better, I really hate to say this, but I am voting for the underdog. I have hit the Cally and the Titleist. Gotta say that I didn’t like either. The sound of the Titleist and the feel of the Cally were less than desirable for me to hit everyday. Never thought I would say this but I am voting for the Cobra. The tech of it is the most interesting of em all. If it is half of what it is supposed to be, it will be one hell of a club.

In addition, I am having a hard time justifying the cost of upgrading this year. Hell I have even gone back to playing my pre-Bertha Cally. I must say the Cobra is the most interesting from a technology standpoint. Not to mention the fact it hasn’t yet succumbed to the near $500 price tag. Yet.

even though the G30 has a step up on everyone with their earlier release i think TMag R15 will still be the number one selling driver. However im willing to bet that the G30 will be best overall performance despite being fractionally shorter than others. I also think Cobra and Nike will have a even better year. As for the 915 because of cost and loyalty i bet it wont sell much better than its predecessor.

One more thing. I know they have no chance mainly because people don’t know them as well as the “BIG GUYS” But Tour Edge could possibly win the performance side if more people used them on tour. I have never hit a hybrid 240 yards but I was with my 19 degree 3 hybrid xcg6. I have the xcg7 driver and was hitting it between 260-290. They are LEGIT as far as I’m concerned.

Agree with you, Lou. Picked up the XGC7 Beta in the spring and nothing on the market matches its performance for the money (although the PowerBilt may, sounds like another overachiever). I picked up the XGC6 hybrid at the end of the season based on my success with the 7. I liked that even more. It’s straight and very long. Mistakes are slight fades with minimal distance loss. The Beta Driver took some patience and I don’t know if it was the stiff Black Tie shaft or the somewhat open head (I played it at 9 degrees upright to fight it), but I had to play a stronger grip than usual and really slow my swing to hit fairways with regularity. I came away thinking either the red tie shaft or the 460 regular head driver may be a better fit for me…I will try the 8 when I can find a place with a Trackman that deals Tour Edge products to try to figure it out. But I digress.
Their drivers are as long as anything I hit (TM, Callaway, Titleist, Wilson, Cobra) and at least 100 dollars less. I may come up with another club in the end but the 8 will definitely get first crack at next years business.

I’m actually using the xcg7 head with the matrix red tie that goes with the beta and have been getting fantastic results. My 3 wood is the cb4 tour that Ihave been able to hit 245 max but honestly have not hit it as well as I was swinging the other day and the hybrid is the xcg6 and it’s just a monster. Very forgiving and very long. Anyone who is looking at getting some new clubs needs to try this

      Regis

I think Tour Edge has always made the best hybrids. Love their fairways too but I prefer a more compact head. But their driver has always fallen a little short in comparison, at least for my game.

I know Titleist didn’t take part in any of your tests this past year, but do they really HAVE to agree to be included? Can’t you just get a 915 and test it anyway? People do this online all the time (just with much poorer testing parameters). Don’t let them bully you… we all want to know how the 915 stacks up against the competition and frankly, if it’s included, I would consider the test incomplete (b/c we all know how good it likely will do).

Just going on past numbers, I have to assume that either the R15 or Aero Burner will be the top-selling driver (TM always is). My bet for performance is on either the 915, G30 or Vapor. Quite frankly, this might be the most tightly packed performance test yet… there are at least 10 drivers listed above that I could easily see winning the thing.

In comparative terms to past years, sales AND performance of 2015 drivers will be poor.

I see no paradigm shifts or breakthroughs. The G30 didn’t get speedier for most hitters, the 815 is the same ole BB from the spring 2014, the R15 has two weights — big whup, the 915d is a bit longer than its garycoleman-esque sibling the 913.

It’ll be a year of “so what” for anyone reasonably familiar with recent product offerings.

As far as sales go — another downer year is virtually guaranteed. The only interesting unknowns will be found in which brands manage to cut out bigger slices from an ever-shrinking pie.

-The R15 will sell like crazy
      – I think Nike will continue its upswing and gain some ground this season….(not sure if I like them releasing the Flex model along with the pro and version)
-Titleist might have their best driver ever out and I personally would love a mid season release of D4 or D5.
      – I believe the Dark Horse is Cobra…yes Cobra, they have really been improving on the R&D front and this might be the stick that gets them back to their late 90s form.
      – I honestly believe Callaway is the big loser this year. basically releasing 2 new alpha’s that have minimal differences not just from each other but from the previous model as well

TMag will most likely be the #1 driver on tour. I’m betting the Titleist 915 will be the best performing but really it will all depend on who’s swinging the club and what kind of year they are having. Rory’s numbers with the Vapor are crazy so far but he would likely put those numbers up with any of these drivers.
