This is not an article about golf apparel.
This is an article about how you select and purchase your golf apparel. Bogey Box is not another run of the mill subscription service either. In fact, in many ways, leveraging Bogey Box is not that different from making an apparel purchase from your golf professional at your home club. The service has a bit of a green grass, personalized feel to it.
How Bogey Box Works
Much like a green grass pro shop, Bogey Box has annual membership dues. $100 a year to be exact. Once the membership obligation is satisfied, you will have access to a certified PGA Golf Professional who will act as your personal assistant. His job is to help you find golf apparel that suits your personal style.
Membership also includes:
- 1 virtual golf lesson with a PGA Pro
- Unlimited shipping to and from Bogey Box
Shortly after signup, my PGA Pro contacted me to discuss my style preferences. We discussed in detail what brands I currently like, as well as fit (sizing) preferences, or other special requests. As an example, I requested that one of my selections be versatile enough to serve as a business casual option for the office.
After the call, my Pro sent me an email which included three premium branded outfit selections. He asked if I wanted to make any changes, or if something really stood out as something I wasn’t going to like. After final approval is given, the apparel selections are shipped.
Upon receiving the Bogey Box apparel selections, I was surprised by how accurately the assessed my styling and fit preferences. I mean, they nailed it with each and every piece.
During my consultation, I had discussed that I like more of a trendy business casual look to my apparel. I prefer that my golf shirts and pants have a slim or tailored fit to them. I don’t want them to fit tight, but I do not want to have any excessive baggy fabric either. Each and every one of the selections fit my preference; sizing, styling, and overall appearance was spot-on precise. I was extremely pleased with their selections, as well as the fit and finish of the products.
Include in the box is a run-down of the contents…a list of brands, products, and pricing. Bogey Box gives you to ten days to try on all of the enclosed apparel, review the pricing, and make your final selections. Customers are under no obligation to purchase any of the items.
Anything you don’t like (or don’t want to buy)…put in back in the box, and use the pre-paid return label to send it back. Bogey Box retains your credit card information, so you get charged for anything not in the box.
Who Is Bogey Box For
Bogey Box is an apparel selection and delivery service for the golfer that doesn’t like to shop, needs some assistance in putting together his wardrobe, or who doesn’t want to spend much time on either. You can arrange shipments as often as you like. You can even automate if you’d like (monthly, quarterly, etc.).
With Bogey Box there are no surprises, it’s as easy as it sounds. I appreciate the fact that, unlike online ordering, you don’t pay for a thing until you’ve tried it on, and decided whether or not you actually want to keep it. With Bogey Box’s price matching policy, you’re not going to be paying more that you would elsewhere. I was impressed by the depth of the offering, and that they offer selections that we’re unlikely to find at big box retailers.
The one knock is the annual feel. The argument for value there is tied to the frequency of use, but when you consider the personalized nature of the service and otherwise free shipping, the annual fee seems reasonable-enough. That said, Bogey Box’s service is ideally suited for those of us who appreciate style, like to keep the wardrobe fresh, and place an absolute premium on convenience.

This one is destined to go the way of Friendster and MySpace. Seriously…. golfers can’t go to a store and pick out a pair of shorts and a shirt that go together? What a joke. Simply another subscription service trying to milk the consumer. Nobody is clueless enough to need this so called “service.” Shame on MyGolfSpy for not taking a more critical approach to this so-called review.
