Arccos Announces Virtual Caddie Add-On

Less than 3% of golfers have access to a caddie.

That fun fact comes courtesy of the team at Arccos Golf.

Strip out all of the cloud computing, GPS, and round tracking stuff, and fundamentally what Arccos is doing is trying to boost those percentages. Arccos wants all of us to have access to a caddie. And we’re not talking about just any caddie; we’re talking about a statistically-driven caddie who knows every detail of your game; your precise distances, miss percentages, and other tendencies.

Arccos wants to give you the kind of caddie that can help you get the most out of your game and shoot lower scores.

Hole_OverviewIf you follow the digital tech side of golf closely, you may have noticed a decline in new golf tech recently. Swing trainer innovations have waned, and even the round tracking/analytics space has plateaued a bit. Short of Cobra Connect (FREE with every new Cobra Driver), there hasn’t been much to get excited about. Arccos Caddie isn’t just an exception; it’s one of the most feverishly anticipated new golf tech releases of 2017.

We’ve been waiting for Arccos Caddie to launch since we saw a demo at the PGA Show in late January.  If you’ve been waiting too, or even if you’re just hearing about it for the first time, good news, Arccos Caddie arrives on May 22nd.

What Is Arccos Caddie?

To borrow from the Arccos-provided marketing speak, “powered by the Microsoft Azure Cloud, Arccos Caddie uses advanced analytics to help golfers shoot lower scores by making smarter decisions.”

Super. But what does it actually do?

In simple terms, Arccos Caddie is an add-on to the GEN1 and Arccos 360 platforms that takes your past performance data and uses it to make strategy and situational club recommendations.

It works for any hole in the world, and in addition to your data, it also factors in elevation and based on forecast data, temperature, wind speed, and more.

For every hole, it recommends a strategy (club selection), and provides you with the odds of making par, and hitting the fairway. It also lays out your chances of missing right or left.

On Par 3s, Arccos Caddie swaps fairway percentage for GIR percentage and also includes miss percentages by quadrant (long, short, left, right). The app gives you the option of further customizing your experience by dragging the tee box and hole to their precise locations.

Arccos Caddie looks at a variety of factors and recommends the strategy and ultimately the club that will give you the best chance for success. Arccos is constantly in your ear…or at least at your fingertips. How you use the information is up to you.

Availability

Arccos Caddie will be available for download beginning May 22.  For users with a minimum of 5 rounds in the system (the minimum amount of data required for Arccos Caddie to make recommendations), there will be a free promo period from May 22nd until May 31st. After that, the price is $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year (including a 1-month, no obligation trial period).

The USGA has not yet issued a ruling regarding the use of Arccos Caddie.

This is great tech with useful info. However all of the gadgetry is not helping the pace of play these days. There’s already too much discussion and analysis between shots by high handicap players (like me).

Nice concept – it could be pretty useful, but the price point of buying Arrcos and then the monthly add-on fee is steeper than most golfers will spend. It’s only a matter of time before someone offers a similar app for your phone, for free (with advertisements) or $9.99 one-time fee. It’s not rocket science – Arrcos should capitalize on it, before it becomes commonplace. I’m waiting for a better priced option.

Is there an option to only have your account active for certain months? for people that live up north and can’t play for 5 months of the year it’s a bit of a waist of money.

I love the idea, but would rather buy the item out right for say $400 then have to pay year after year after year.

So if you subscribe for a year, it factors out to $8.50/month.

      Things that are about $8:

1 medium/large bucket of range balls
      Netflix subscription (1 mo)
      1 Fast food value meal
1 sleeve of mid-grade golf balls
      2 Starbucks drinks
      1 bomber of craft beer

I think the price point is right for people for Arccos users that play frequently. It wasn’t free to develop this new tech and they must be pretty confident in the value that’s added to their product. Like XJohnX said, there’s a lot of other crap that we waste money on at a similar price point.

Strange, I have been getting the message on my Arccos 360 that early android adopters will NOT be charged for the caddie. Think it was even a message on play store when taking one of the updates…”Early adapters rock, you will be able to access the “caddie” gratis,”…or words to that effect.

I don’t disagree it sounds expensive but, it’s all relative. If you look at what you spend on golf at the end of the year and then ask yourself if you would have paid $100 more for a few strokes here and there……we’ve all thrown $100 at WAY stupider things than this. At least it’s something new and exciting.

So… you have to buy Arccos for ~$250 and THEN pay $100 a year for the add-on Caddie platform?! Seems kind of ridiculous. It looks awesome, don’t get me wrong, but that’s a bit cost-prohibitive for some.

It is expensive (especially month to month), but I’d argue that golfers who bought Arccos paid for specific functionality. Arccos has increased that functionally, and no doubt invested a significant sum to do so. What’s the right price? I’m not sure, but I agree that $100 for an annual subscription feels steep.

Agree w you on the additional functionality providing additional value. I would expect to pay for it, but I disagree with the structure. Either make Arccos cost $100 more from the jump and include the caddy functionality or sell as-is and charge a 1-time fee for those that want the add-on caddy functionality. Don’t make people who just paid $250 for your product tack on a $100 per year subscription.

Pretty amazing. Hard to invent new things in a crowded category but this is very cool.

Would’ve loved this instead of the real caddy I had at Punta Espada on my honeymoon this March.
He wouldn’t give me yardage just handed clubs and blamed me Everytime I came up short or missed.
      Lol

I was on board until the last paragraph. $20 per month, no thanks. It’d be nice for the people who bought an arccos if this was an add on. Can’t see too many people paying a monthly subscribsion for this.

Yea this should be a one time add-on fee. I’d pay $100 for it… just not every year.

Dang, this is something I would definitely love to try (I have been thinking about ARCCOS for a while.) Sadly, I’m having my bicep reattached tomorrow so I won’t be playing any time soon.
