New for 2017?

Over the last couple of weeks, the USGA has approved 5 new Bridgestone driver heads, 2 of which will almost certainly make it into retail production. Given the timing, and the obvious evolutionary physical similarities, the Tour B XD-3 and the Tour XD-5 are likely replacements for the J715 and J815 drivers.

5 New Models? No Chance.

Thus far the USGA has approved 3 XD-3 variants and 2 XD-5 varients. Don’t panic…it’s beyond unlikely that Bridgestone will bring 5 new drivers to market. The number of new heads simply suggests that Bridgestone is actively engaged in tour testing, but hasn’t finalized either design just yet.

Movable Weights

Each of the new models is outfitted with a pair of movable weights. At only 8 and 2 grams each, we’re not talking about a significant amount of weight (only 6 grams worth of adjustability), but it should be enough to move the center of gravity enough to have an impact on launch and spin – and based on the location of the ports – draw/fade bias as well.

Bonded Hosels

Also note that all of the designs shown feature discrete lofts and bonded hosels. You may recall that the most recent Bridgstone driver (JGR) also lacked adjustability, which it more than made up for with an extremely consumer-friendly $299 price point.

We’ll have to wait and see if that pricing model continues with the TourB, for now, let us know if you can spot the differences.

With Nike gone and soon to be TM out of the picture we will see smaller less dominate companies make big moves forward in clubs, Wilson too.

These look more like the JGR than the previous years two models. I play and love the JGR

Hopefully with this one they will get their quality control in order. The shaft on my JGR was so badly prepped that it degraded and disintegrated in short order.

Love the JGR head but won’t touch another Bridgestone until I’m convinced they have addressed their quality control issues.

I’m very interested in the new lineup of Bridgestone equipment. It appears they are getting very serious about their club offerings. I’ve played the B330S for the past few years and find its the best tour ball out there. I’d love to find out the same about their equipment – but there’s nowhere to try it. Their website offers trial sets and clubs for rental, but has anyone hit the new drivers and irons? Has MGS included them in their testing recently?

Did they do away with the milled face with this one?

BRIDGESTONE makes really great irons and driver’s. I play the B330 and like them a lot better than the Titleist Pro V1. Just wish we could buy they clubs in drivers in Canada. If you haven’t tried them out yet I suggest you do so you’ll be very impressed.✌️

With Nike out of the picture, Bridgestone seems to want to fill that void. Interesting to see them go aggressive. Wonder if the same will be done with irons and such.

Bridgestone makes some great equipment, but it almost seems like they have no interest in marketing anything but their balls. I wonder if that changes in 2017
