The Time For Change Is Now!

MyGolfSpy is on a mission.  //  We can and will change an industry.  //  But we need your help.

MyGolfSpy was founded on the belief that there should be a golf site 100% dedicated to empowering you, the consumer. We have been, and remain committed to helping golfers distinguish fact from hype, and great equipment from mediocre.

We believe that product reviews and industry coverage should remain unbiased, unfiltered, and above the influence of big advertising dollars. Although these ideas may seem obvious to you and me, in the golf equipment industry they are nothing less than revolutionary; and revolutionary ideas demand a revolution.

Taking on an established industry is no easy task. There is no shortage of detractors; Despite the resistance, we believe the momentum is shifting. We believe we’re on the verge of a tipping point, and with your support, we can, and will change an industry!

Support The MyGolfSpy Golf Revolution

For the first time in our history, we are asking our readers for financial support. Your donation will ensure that we are able to continue our mission to become what can truly be called the “Consumer Reports of Golf”.  So if you believe in what we are doing at MyGolfSpy and you want to see it grow and get better we hope you will join in by donating and supporting the site.  Every little bit counts to keeping the site alive and getting you the information you want to see.  Over the past 3.5 years I funded this site 100% with my own money while working tirelessly to try and fundamentally change the way the golf equipment industry is covered.  And I want nothing more then to be able to do this in the future.  And with enough support I think this is possible.

What Your Support Will Mean For You:

  • The launch of some top-secret new projects
  • An increase in our golf equipment reviews
  • More industry insider & investigative reports
  • More of the industry coverage you simply won’t get anywhere else
  • And much more…
  • All of the above without the influence of big OEM advertising

Thank You All For Your Support!

We’re a very small team, and what we do is very much a labor of love. We work long hours for much less pay than corporate jobs we walked away from. We’re not doing this to get rich. The rewards will come when we can point to what you, me and all of the “MyGolfSpy Revolutionaries” have created here together and say, “we did what no one thought was possible”.

  • We’re doing this for all of you who believe that logos don’t matter.
  • We’re doing this because the mainstream golf media has failed you.
  • We’re doing this to level the playing field for the little guy who doesn’t have a million dollar advertising budget.
  • We’re doing this because we believe there should be a golf site 100% dedicated to you.

Join the MyGolfSpy Revolution // Donate Today!

We’re hoping that both individuals and companies who support MyGolfSpy’s commitment to straightforward, objective, and unfiltered coverage of the golf equipment industry will consider donating through either a one-time annual contribution, or a recurring monthly subscription.

I love this site and although I’m semi computer literate, most of my computer time is spent on your site…My replys and comments can be found scattered around the site & your reviews are second to none with spys Mike, Matt, et al doing an excellent job…I have faith that my donation and all the others will give you the resources recquired to fulfill your mission…On a closing note, being a business owner for 22+ years and teaching entrenpreneurial classes @ the graduate school level, I could not agree more with 18th Legion’s comments…Phana24JG’s response was cute(though a tad defensive), yet your or my intentions are irrelevant in the public’s eye, only the perception counts…Tying a golf theme around the logo might better serve you(ex: “hundreds” of golfers(ala an army) running over the crest of a fairway, golf clubs raised) showing the ground swell of support(revolution) that you have garnered…That was a quick thought so please be merciful…lol…Seriously though, great site, keep up the great work….Greens & Fairways 4ever….

Appreciate the support tremendously Richard and thanks for the suggestion. Basically what it boiled down to in regards to the graphic was the fact that we don’t have an art department at MyGolfSpy. So we did the best we could. And we don;t want to hold up a post because we are searching the exact right banner. We thought it was a good fit for what we are trying to do. Was it the best logo for it probably not. But we did our best under the circumstances. Thanks again!

Thanks for taking the time to respond though I understand the constraints that you are working under and where your priorities are directed…The logo/art work is fine and your resources are directed were they should be, towards the physical site and the content, which is second to none!Hopefully most of those who place comments on your site will step up and make a contribution so you may continue to grow…All the best…Greens & Fairways 4ever….

If you think the branding is so important, then why not stump-up and put together a few options and style-guides (branding guidelines) for MGS to consider? YOU invest some of YOUR time in the same way MGS invest their time and $$$ for you – provide these in nice, high-res, ready to go format with no strings attached (no royalties, no copyright, no cost, no expectations).

Personally, I think MGS have it right – it is the content that is key and they do a cracking job with it. That said, is there anything wrong with the branding? Nope! I actually quite like it.

I certainly hope testing is fair. I feel the best way to test something is to get people out there playing with the equipment. You want it tested by people of different levels to get fair testing conditions.

I sincerely hope all those who requested highly sophisticated (and expensive) testing joined/contributed to MGS. The problem is that this kind of testing is extremely expensive. Since MGS tests in upstate NY, the closest Trackman is in either Tappan, NY or Bolton, MA. Furthermore, once the major OEMs begin to lose their luster, and the importance of matching head and shaft becomes obvious, MGS will have to BUY every club they want to test. That does not even begin to account for the cost and time of fitters and Tman (or Flightscope X-2) operators to analyze the data and get everylevel of golfer and/or robot into the proper mix. If 1,000 golfers were to subscribe to MGS, this becomes at least feasible on a limited scale. Yet here we have a total of 13 comments.

I support the mission. I would reconsider the logo/art. It is direct from the Communist/Marxist Revolution in the Soviet Union. Fist and Star. Maybe it’s intentional, but there is another revolution you could draw from…

18th, do you SERIOUSLY believe that a small entrepreneur trying to build an autonomous business is highly influenced by Marx and Lenin? Maybe I play with different people, but Das Kapital is not one of the books frequently discussed on the golf course. Perhaps the logo is a tad “in your face,” but I think MGS is trying to get your attention. Do you have a clue how much these tests cost?

Not sure what the cost of tests has to do with a logo or marketing. Point is, if I notice, others will, or at least those who passed fourth grade history.

Regardless, I stated it is a good cause. I am offering that when developing good marketing, especially the smaller the brand or company, it’s best not to use any symbolism that can remind people of other things. It draws attention away from the intended message.

Hopefully, this site will remain the one”true” informative golf site available to us.
My singular biggest gripe with the golf industry remains the complete lack of an effort to coordinate the “flex specs” between all the various OEM,s. When I buy a new club, I must continually go through a completely new testing effort to determine the correct flex, when it would/could be made a whole lot easier if they had some sort of standard system in place.
Perhaps MGS will someday push to that end also…just my @ cents…Good luck continueing with your highly regarded efforts to keep we consumers up-to-date on all things golf!

Would love to see a completely objective (nothing about “I like the look” or “I like the sound” or “It feels great” because that kind of subjective review doesn’t have much substance) robotic driver head testing where:

      1) The lofts, face angles, etc of each head being reviewed are objectively measured to be the same loft (a driver that has a 9.5* stamp but is actually 10* will perform differently than one that is stamped at 9.5* and is actually 9*).
      2) The heads are swapped out for testing on the exact same shaft (not just the same brand shaft, but the exact same shaft)
      3) All ~97 driver manufacturers are represented instead of just the few brands with the highest marketing budgets (Taylor Made, Nike, Callaway, Cleveland, Ping, etc)
      4) The heads are tested at several speeds (Ex. 70mph, 90mph, 110mph)
      5) The heads are COR tested for forgiveness at 9 spots on the face (top left, top, top right, left, center, right, bottom left, bottom, bottom right).

It would also be interesting to do a similar test on long drive heads…say at 5* lofts and at speeds like what you see in the World Finals around 145mph.

With a study like this, you would actually see who performs the best. No grey area about performance.

I would think that if you contact an academic institution or something like that, they might help fund the testing and research. You’d need a shaft, all the different heads, access to a robotic swing machine, access to a Trackman, and a few other things.

I agree, mostly, with Stevie. If the club heads could be tested with the same specs and the logos somehow covered up (there’s still brandwashing going on), that would put a review system that’s already better than anything the mainstream golf media can think of out of reach.

I definitely believe in MGS. I don’t believe the logos matter- not on heads, shafts, or grips. I’ve written to the mainstream media about their failings, and would LOVE to see the “big boys” find out what a level playing field feels like. To make a short story long, I’m in.

Here’s some revolution for you. Can’t say this “over there”.

High end “collectable” Scotty Cameron items on Ebay seem to be gathering dust like real estate in Detroit. Markets correct value, including that of real estate and collectibles. If the high end of a brand stagnates or collapses, can the devaluation of the brand be far behind if the intrinsic value of the main equipment line is called into question? Once the cachet of value begins to fade in the slightest, there’s no telling how quickly the market may react. Could this be a “bubble” in the making?

      Gentlemen,

I believe that you are on the right track, but until you combine fitting and some other way of testing product your reviews are still anecdotal. Having different handicap levels, physical capabilities, and ages hit the same club is not a thorough review. Finding out what a club does at a certain swing speed across the face with differing angles of attack will start the process of comparing equipment, but you still must fit the equipment to the player for a valid comparison of different product. I would love to see you create the first true review system that can’t be bought that combines fitting, robotic, AND subjective. I love what you are doing and look forward to each email and review.
