The Cheater’s Guide To Super Long Drives

The #1 Swing Speed Training Program For Longer Drives

In late 2002, Jaacob Bowden was successfully working in the mid-west corporate world as a 26 year old computer engineer. Feeling disenchanted with his work, Jaacob quit his job, took his savings, and moved out to California to pursue a golf career despite only being an average length hitting 14-handicap golfer. As luck would have it, he was taken under the wing of Dan Shauger and Guinness World Record Long Driver Mike Austin.

Only 5 months later, Jaacob won the Pinnacle Distance Challenge with a televised drive of 381-yards (pretty amazing) beating out over 160 competitors including the current 2008 RE/MAX World Long Drive Senior Division Champion, Dan Boever. Jaacob has since gone on to hit an event record 421-yard drive to win a World Championship Qualifier and has turned professional and posted tournament scores in the 60s. Jaacob runs his own golf website called Swing Man Golf.

How Much Would 30-50 More Yards Off The Tee Help You?

(Intro by: GolfSpy X)

Distance sells…if it didn’t then golf companies wouldn’t make the outlandish claims like “15 More Yards Guaranteed” or “The Longest Driver We Have Made Yet”.  These shocking claims have been going on forever in the golf world and believe it or not golfers continue to buy it…year after year.  Think about it…how much money have you spent on clubs or on the range trying to squeak out just a few more yards off the tee in your golf career?  Hell…by now we should all be averaging 500 yards off the tee if all these claims were actually true.

But that doesn’t mean that you can’t actually gain 15 more yards off the tee without going and getting professionally fit.  You can actually gain that much and more with simple swing speed systems like the one we will be discussing. I actually used to compete on the long drive circuit for a couple years….and I know they work.  I had always been able to hit the ball a long ways…but competing against the big boys was an entirely different animal and I knew I would have to make some changes if I really wanted to compete.  And by using some of the same principles you will find in the SwingMan System I was able to add about 25 more yards to my drives.  Which for me was huge…I was just hoping to get 5-10 more yards so I was quite shocked at how easy it was to get as much as I did.  Now…are there other systems out there that work…I am sure there are but the SwingMan System is one of the better ones I have run across.  And the results for most of the people we know who have tried the system have been pretty impressive.  I have gotten quite a few emails from MyGolfSpy readers saying that they have tried it and were very happy with the results.

So How Can YOU Actually Get These Big Gains Off The Tee?

Chances are the majority of you reading this have all tried to get more distance off the tee in one way or another and for one reason or another many or all of the attempts that you have tried so far have failed to give you the results you were looking for. This is a pretty common theme amongst most golfers.  But as long as you follow the program exactly as it is laid out…I think this will be different for you.  Over 4,000 golfers have already signed up for the SwingMan Program and you can see from the testimonials on the left hand side of the site that it gets a lot of positive reviews.  And for the cost of less then a single-lesson it’s definitely worth it.

Jaacob Gained 26 MPH in Only 37 Days

by: Jaacob Bowden

Yes, some people may have naturally faster swings than others, but that doesn’t mean that a slow or a fast person couldn’t get faster through some basic training. I’ve seen guys that are in great shape and not hit the ball anywhere.  I’ve also seen guys with big potbellies absolutely kill the ball.  So really what I needed to find was information on how to train my body to swing faster and not necessarily on how to be more fit for golf.  Unfortunately, search after search revealed that there was pretty much no information out there about how to train to swing a golf club faster.

So I set out to design my own program.  And when I had combined all of this information with what I already knew about athletics and training, I came up with a program that packed on 26 mph to my maximum driver swing speed in only 37 days.  I went on to record a 155mph driver swing with my Sports Sensors Swing Speed Radar and I also won my RE/MAX Qualifier with a grid-record 421-yard drive.

Jaacob has recorded a grid-record 421-yard drive and a 155 mph swing speed using the SwingMan training methods.

Naturally, a lot of people that knew me were curious to know how my speed went up so quickly.  Obviously, what I did worked for me, but I wasn’t sure if it would work for other people.  I also didn’t know if they would want to train as much as me, if they had access to the same equipment, or if the training would work with different swing styles.  With those things in mind, I decided to take the bare bones of my program and put it to test on several testers who ranged in age from 12-55 and who had variety of handicaps.  I then designed a twice-weekly Basic Speed Training program such that they didn’t need to buy anything special or have to make any trips to the gym or driving rangeThe result was a 12-16 mph (30-40 yards) gain for each of them in the first 30 days of training.

We Now Have Over 4,000 Members and 1 Million Hots on YouTube

Of course I was excited and I decided to take all of this information and use it to be the base for creating my Swing Man Golf website.  As word began to spread, more and more people tried out the Basic Speed training…and over and over I would see the same 12-16mph (30-40 yard) driver swing speed gains.  Today, our YouTube Channel has had over 1,000,000 video views and the testimonials from our membership base of almost 4,000 comes from juniors in their early teens to seniors in their upper 80s.

And for those that had the desire to do the extra things, I also included in the site the more advanced training principles that I used to get my 26 mph in 37 days. To my surprise, one of our 58-year old members even went on to beat my own personal speed gains record.  He came to the site in December with a 95-100 mph swing speed and by April he emailed me a photo of his radar at 139mph.  He had increased his speed so much that he decided to try long drive in the Super Senior division and he ended up winning several of his Qualifiers.  I realize that this is an extreme example but I still think it is worth mentioning because, much like Tom Watson in the 2009 British Open, it can be inspiring for the rest of us and demonstrate what is possible at any age when you continually apply your desires to a solid training program.

I am a firm believer in the fact that just because you have the new sooper dooper driver and your clubs cost you a zillion dollars each will not make you be able to hit the ball any further. If your basic such as your stance an positioning are not right then your swing is all wrong as well

Seems like an interesting concept. Anything that moves away from latest technology to improve your golf game I think is a good thing. Working with the basics physics of the golf swing is the way to go.

Will check out the website, thanks.

Interesting read…. This could have been an infomercial at 4 AM on GC. LOL. I will be checking out the site though. I, like most, could use a little more distance. I, unlike a lot though, do NOT believe it can be bought off the shelf based on manufacturer claims of “longer”.

That’s what kills me- there are SO many people that think the new”it” shaft, or the biggest, baddest clubhead will be “the One” that will allow them to fulfill their wildest driving fantasies. It’s simple physics: M*V2=E. Baisically, the mass (M) of the head multiplied by the velocity of the clubhead squared (V2) equals the amount of energy (E) passed on to the ball. You get the heaviest head you can handle and multiply it by your swing speed squared and that’s your potential. Obviously, if you have the skill required to handle a longer club (45″+) you can increase your velocity… and this is only so because that skill allows you to find the center of the face consistently. Erratic swingers need shorter clubs; while this hurts their E score, the accuracy gained far outweighs that. It’s not about how much is spent on clubs- the shaft is NOT the “engine”, contrary to popular belief. It’s important, but not nearly as important as the golfer’s technique and having a properly fit clubhead.

Another good one is Power = Force*Distance/Time…which also points to what you were talking about, Justin. Get more mass behind the ball-club collision without any speed (distance/time) loss and you get more power. Sort of like having a big truck doing more damage in a car accident than a bicycle colliding at the same speed.

I definitely agree with you if you want big drives that good technique is important. A properly fit clubhead is also key, but I would take it a step further and just say that the whole ball/club fitting is important…whatever gets you hitting your particular brand of ball with optimal launch conditions (spin and launch angle) based on your individual swing speed (those with slower swing speeds need more spin and higher launch – which is why some people hit 3W or 5W farther than their drivers).

Once you are maxed out with good technique and well fit equipment, another thing that you can do for more distance is to train your body to execute your personal swing fundamentals…but faster and in control – with swing speed training. It’s something a lot of long drive guys know, but the general golf world still is a bit slow in catching on.

Absolutely, spot-on Jaacob. Nothing I’ve ever read/experienced says having a $300 “it” shaft will turn you into a Tour pro; but tightening up technique and getting properly fit clubs will maximize potential.
