Good old ping eye 2+ for 33 years. Had a shop put in grafalloy attack lite R-flex. Was measured at a shop and though I am 5′ 11′ I play orange 3deg flat lie. Also a few years ago I bought an old set of orange ping eye2+ and had them reshafted with attack lit senior shafts for the future (I’m 62). Add a total mix of other clubs, Cobra driver, ping G25 3 wood, taylor 5 wood, old tommy armor 7 wood and odyssey white ice mallet putter

I’M 67 AND I JUST GOT RID OF MY TM IRONS THAT WERE A STIFF SHAFT AND WENT WITH MIZUNOEZ IRONS REGULAR SHAFT. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I HAVE ARTHRITIS IN MY RIGHT HAND AND RIGHT SHOULDER SO I HAD TO GO A LITTLE LIGHTER. HOWEVER, I STILL HAVE THE TM WOODS, STIFF GRAPHITE. GOTTA GET RID OF THEM TOO. I;M THINKING OF THE MIZUNO EZ DRIVER AND FAIRWAY WOODS, REGULAR GRAPHITE SHAFTS. CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IF THEY PLAY THESE WOODS AND HOW GOOD THEY ARE?

I was looking online for new irons because my swing coach recommended that I get some new irons with stiffer shafts. I was doing some research and I saw the Taylormade Speedblades for the first time. I loved the look (even though they look like a rock from the top), so I had to get them. I went to an indoor driving range (since it was the start of the winter) and they were there. I had to try them out. I loved the feel and the flight. They were loooooooonnnngggg! I ended up getting them with NS Pro 95g Stiff shafts and I gained about 20-25 yards with each club. I ended up winning four tournaments this year. If you can get them, do it.

About 5 years ago I picked up the game of golf. With a hand-me-down set of Big Bertha irons and a Callaway FT-5 I found misspelled on eBay for $10, I was near ready to start. Purchased a WH#1 Odyssey putter I found on CL and started to hit the course.
This set-up lasted me a couple of years, and performed quite well for me. I was starting to take lessons and really starting to improve. Until IT happened. I returned to my car one day to find it had been broken into and my sticks had been stolen.
Being a newer father to 3 kids, money to spend on fun and games was short in supply. It has been 4 years since I have been able to play. A co-worker of mine is a fairly avid golfer. On a visit to his house the subject got brought up while I was hitting his clubs into his practice net. He exits to his garage and returns with a set of sticks and gives them to me.
*Ping G-2 driver. S flex Adilia shaft.
*Adams Tight Lies 16* FW S stock shaft.
*Nike forged split cavity irons 4-PW and a V-Rev SW

All to do was arm myself with a putter. I went to a local Big 5 and found a Wilson Harmonized putter on the cheap(mirrors an Odyssey #9).

Everything is stiff, so I’m having a hard time hitting them consistently. Driver is horribly light to my liking. FW does not instill confidence to me. Irons are difficult to get used to with them being more of a players iron. Putter is cheap with no feel at all.

Screw it. I’m playing again and enjoying the game.
I would like to get the irons bent and see if I can reshaft the driver to fit me a little bit better.

Tough choice. The review on 3 wheel carts convinced me to go with the ClicGear 3.5 after my shoulder surgery. The review of compact GPS convinced me to go with the Golf Buddy Voice.

Clubs come and go. The ClicGear has made walking possible again and made every round a sheer joy. The Golf Buddy has saved me I-Don’t-Know-How-Many shots in just a few rounds.

I’ll go with the Golf Buddy. Shots is shots.

I had been a player that never really considered “smaller” manufacturers equipment. I always had just assumed that the big box companies were where they were for a reason. The review that really stood out to me was the one written on the Adams 9064 driver. I had never really thought about Adams as a possibility for my game until I read that post. The way I viewed equipment after that was totally changed! I purchased a 9064 and used that head with different shaft combinations (most recently a tour spec “fuel” shaft) until it broke (literally). On top of that, I now have played a combo set of CB3/A12pro irons for the last two seasons and am playing the best golf of my life. I also began appreciating MGS commitment to acknowledging the real putter “artists” out there and have turned that knowledge into a David Whitlam gamer that I absolutely adore (not to mention a back-up Betti that works its way into the bag every now and then). Thanks, MGS for broadening my horizons and improving my game!!

After reading the putter review in which the Ketsch won I stumbled upon the review of one of the testers of the P&SI egos putter. While I am a 4.2 hcp I hate misreading greens! This putter is expensive but when using common sense about the game of golf its a better purchase than a new driver and chasing the elusive 10 yards. COR is maxed out and if your fitted reasonably close you are good to go. Once learning your greens based on the speed you can consistently produce putts that go in much more often or at least burn edges. Getting the ball in the hole saves strokes! Thanks to Andy for answering numerous questions and for getting me set up. Great Service! I urge you to consider whats important in making you a better golfer and take a look at these putters the next time you are ready for a purchase. Without MGS I would have never heard of them!

Overall I’m an equipment nut. I really enjoy trying and buying all the new stuff, but it doesn’t relate it improved scores. I really like the approach from #mygolfspy when they review equipment. It’s diffidently not your cookie cutter review. You take a honest position to what is fact vs marketing. That said, it has made me realize I like the equipment as a part of my golf experience.

I have read MGS for years, initially because of the early pics and info on new releases, but more lately because of the #datacratic approach to reviews. This approach very closely mimics how I have always chosen clubs for my bag, and helped my customers choose clubs for their bags. Because of the information that I have read on MGS, I have installed a Salty grip on my putter, and replaced all of my short game clubs with stuff that I would not even have considered…

      Well done MGS.. Well done.

      And thanks!!

I was looking for a driver for a while, did some testing before and after I read MGS “Most Wanted”. There was a strong correlation between what I found and the test results – this helped both with short list and confidence to purchase.

I tend to hit high & low on the face, and my big miss is low left hook. Regularly would lick me out-of-bounds. The Ping G25 performs well, but I don’t like low face, and the high back-to-front MOI makes it feel like swinging a bus. the Nike Covert 1.0 was poor. Nike Covert Tour 1.0 performed pretty much exactly the same as my 2006 Nicklaus Q4 440 cc driver. Callaway X-Hot shaft too long, hooks more than others…

So ended up with Cleveland Classic XL Custom Driver (9.0 degrees as home course is windy and went with the very smooth Mitsubishi Fubuki Tour 53 shaft). Between club & swing improvements, net result is I’ve won a club league competition and major competition. Handicap index is down 6. Play the same ball approx. 45 holes.

the 1 club that I put in my bag that has helped the most has been the Callaway BBA I custom fit it myself with an Accra Tour Z LS 75 M5 which helps me still get loft on the drive but both the gravity core of the BBA head and the shaft bring that spin rate down which is what I battled with previous drivers.

I replaced some old Dunlop clubs that I bought new in 1994 with what is listed above. The TM irons were literally 6 years old but never hit. So I gave them a whirl. Loved them right out of the box. I ordered the Gigagolf stuff because I had heard great things about their clubs and wanted to support one of the custom guys. The drivers are something I wanted to play with and see what would work. There is a distinctive feel between them but they are both good. The RBZ Tour is harsh on impact but goes forever while the Amp Cell is softer and more forgiving off the tee. I’m a 20 handicap so I just play golf for fun and enjoyment. I will never be a pro nor want to be. I would like to decrease my handicap some while still enjoying the game. My wife just into golf this year and she is really enjoying it too.

My driver “was” the worst club in my bag for years. This past winter I did a driver fitting. Best $50 dollars I have ever spent. I spend 2 1/2 hours hitting 14 different drivers. My fitter didn’t force me into any clubs. He just wanted to find the best for me. We did… Callaway FT Optiforce 440. I am averaging 50 – 60% fairways hit now. I don’t think that I will buy clubs ever without being fit for them again. Don’t believe the hype machine about more yardage. Find the longest and straightest you can.

This is somewhat of an interesting topic to me as golfs spy is pretty much what helped me get back into the game after a ten-year hiatus. I knew I wanted to start playing again after a minor heart attack, so I was searching the Internet for clues to which might be the best driver to buy. So, I stumbled across my golfspy driver test a few years ago, and the Ping i20 was rated as the best driver. The Ping i20. So, I did a little eBay work and got one delivered to my home for about $150. Immediately I was bombing the ball to 250 to 260 yards out with this beast. It was nice to be able to knock the ball out there, not quite like I did 15 years ago when I was young and strong, yet still long enough to compete with most everybody at the course. Anyways I play that ping driver for over a year, and then after reading the driver results for the next year, that’s when the slider came out! Boy boy did I want to slider, but every time I went and test hit it I couldn’t get it to go any farther than my ping! So with my local golf Smith, the fitter after watching me ahead and list drives pulled out a tailor-made jet speed, and said here try this. So I started hitting the jet speed, and sadly I was hitting it 10 to 20 yards further then everything else. So obviously you can imagine my excitement with that. Yet I still couldn’t figure out why the jet speed would go further than the slider? I honestly can’t tell you why. However since they were $100 cheaper to begin with I again went to my friend the eBay, and managed to pick up a brand-new one for $140. The jet speed it has given me another 10 to 20 yards on average then the pain so I am very happy with it as I occasionally rope them out there about 280. Anyways so with all of that happiness going on golf spy is what gave me information I needed for better drivers.

Then, my putting was going into the toilet and I couldn’t hit a putt to save my life. So I reviewed my golf spies putting contest your reviews whatever you want to call him, and found the Nike MC – 01 to be the winner. So I armed my wife with that information, and where to order one, and much to my surprise my brand-new Nike method patter was under the Christmas tree this last year. This putter immediately improve my putting beyond believe. I have actually become a pretty decent better now with it, and I am no longer afraid of any butt. So this is my third buy based on my golf spies recommendations, and everyone of them has been extremely beneficial. So regardless of everything else I am grateful for the information that led me to purchasing this better equipment and keep me in the game. Thank you golf spy!

TaylorMade SLDR. I found that with the right spin and launch I have hit some of the longest drives I have ever hit. Great Club

Ping Ketsch. Made the mistake of getting the slight arc vs straight back. Slight Arc did not work for me.

Your driver tests prompted me to blind buy a 910d2 driver a few years ago, safe in the knowledge i would be able to find a shaft and setting that suited my swing, i have always liked titliest drivers but a bad experience with a 905 early in my golfing days put me off (too much club for a beginners swing!!) What really sold it for me was your statement it was the first driver from titliest to suit a wide range of handicaps. Its still in the bag now and have no intention to change it. It came with the project x 7c3. It has had several shafts since but am getting good results with a gd ysqst 7x and couldnt wish for a more consistent driver. I have since added the 910fd and 910h to the bag also. Great clubs. Thankyou golfspy for saving me a fortune!

I purchased the MP650 3 wood (15 degree, 83g white board Xflex, std length) partially because of the MSG review done 2 years ago. Mizuno wasn’t even on my radar for woods (even though I play MP-57s). Hit it. Bought it. The MP650 is my favorite club in the bag today. I also purchased the RAZR Fit Xtreme driver (8.5, Black Tie X Flex, +0.25″) when the MSG 2012 driver review came out. Again, hit it. Bought it. Tested out the SLDR 440 and BBA a few months ago to see if it made sense to try to drop my RPM by 200. Negligible gains weren’t worth the $400 so the RFX stayed.

I visit this site almost every day. Keep up the awesome work.

I have Mizuno MP-650 fairway woods in my bag thanks to your three-wood test a few years back.

I was getting slightly bored of my Ping i15s and while they’re probably the easiest fairway woods off the deck I’ve ever hit. The issue with them was that my miss on average was a fat one, leading to trouble especially off the tee.

I’m a bit of a Mizuno aficionado and not having had a chance to really test the 650 fairway woods, I trusted your review and ordered them online as no dealer had them in stock anymore.

Boy am I glad I did, they feel great and balanced. The stock shaft feels just right to me, they’re great off the tee and very good off the deck. In fact if I could only carry one type of club by Mizuno, it wouldn’t be their irons, wedges or putters, it would be the 650 fairway woods.

Is the Ping Ketsch putter even conforming?

Aug 19, CEO John A. Solheim says,
“In the highly-praised Ketsch putter, which is widely used on Tours around the world, our internal team recently determined the grooves in the face technology are deeper than intended. As a result, we suspended production and shipments of the putter. Today, we are announcing the Ketsch putter is returning to production and will soon be available with new grooves.

      My Current Bag:
      Driver – Adams 2104 XTD 9.5* w/ Matrix Black Tie 6m3
Low spinning matte black head that feels and sounds great. more forgiving than previous Adams models. I’d picked up about 3 mph club head speed and that coupled with the low spin, about 12 to 15 yards further.

3 wood – Taylormade RBZ Tour Spoon 13* with Matix Ozik Xcon7
Might be the best club in the bag. I can hit it high or sting it. I can rip it 270 or feather it in at 240. Feel exceptional and will never leave my bag unless it gets stolen or broken.

      5 wood – Taylormade SLDR 17.5* with a Fuji 77 speeder
Probably the strangest club in the bag. Its actually a HL3wood but I have added loft (closed the face a tad) and I cut it down to a hybrid length. So it really plays just like a 18* 2 hybrid. Great club for long par 3’s and getting home in 2. 220 to 235 club.

Irons – Taylormade Burner 2.0’s 4 thru PW with Dynamic Gold s300
I catch alot of flak for these because they are game improvement and im a +1, but I have played my best golf with them. The 3rd round with them was a 65. All the irons have DGs300’s except the 4 iron. I bent it stronger and put a fuji fit on hybrid shaft in it. It plays like a 4+ and is 205 to 215. very good club. 5 thru pw are all standard loft an +.5 inch

      Wedges – Cleveland RTX cb’s 50* (bent to 48.5*), 56* (bent to 54.5*), 60* (bent to 58.5*)
I was a long time Vokey guy and tried these as a tip from a player that I repsect. They are great wedges. I hate alot of bounce and I hate a pronounced leading edge so as you can see all my wedges are bent quite strong and that gets rid of the leading edge and much of the bounce.

      Putter – SeeMore FGP Original.
This one is the money maker. I had one forever and head fell off of it after an airline handled my bag. I couldnt get it like I had it before, so i went to a Scotty center shaft and then a tank #7, but they weren’t as good as my SeeMore. I contacted SeeMore and they found the exact model I had before. (Zach Johnson model that they dont make anymore). I bought it from the factory, put a 90gram back weight in it, with a SS mid Flatso and its been money.

      Ball – 2013 Prov1x all 11’s, and Srixon ZStarXV all 1’s.
In Louisiana some months are very windy due to the gulf being just south of us. When it gets windy I tend to switch to the Srixon. If I play firmer greens, I’ll game the ProV1x. Both are great balls

Random things – Ball marks are Dimes close to the hole and quarters further away. Balls are marked with a purple dot for LSU and a pink dot for my daughter.

So i always look for club reviews at MGS before i buy. My most convincing review was when i had I bought PING G20, your article about this driver that everyone should buy, (underestimated), was shadowed by TMag launches that year. It truly was a fairway finder i miss it so much im thinking of trading the R1 for a G30. You guys are awesome keep up with the honest reviews!!!

I have made two sight unseen purchases thanks to my golf spy. The first was the Adams 9064ls driver which I baged for around three years before the shaft broke. Fantastic club – straight and long. I tried several other drivers but nothing came close. The second sight unseen purchase was the Ping Ketsch putter which i am using at the moment. Deadly – straight arc fitted. Just surpurb. No sign of a $30 dollar rebait though. Perhaps that is a USA thing? Thanks my golf spy you are great.

My specs haven’t changed in fore ever, so what did I do? I got fit. It pays too, I have been playing 2* flat lies for years, but was fitted though Ping and was fitted for blue (+75) upright. I was very suspect of the fitting, but its only money. The fitting was spot on, I stopped missing left and am enjoying my ball striking.

I’m 62 and got fitted for all the clubs and I’m playing some of the best golf of my life with this setup. I’m sorry to hear about Cleveland since I always come back to them after trying other clubs. The Launcher was the best driver I ever owned, straight, forgiving and long. I traded in the Launcher because it was time and went with the Custom classic because MGS felt it was very underrated and I love Cleveland clubs. It is like the Launcher with adjustability. The 3 wood is just a plain bomber. It’s the easiest 3 wood I’ve ever hit. I also read the review on MGS. Maybe when I’m 72 I’ll try Srixon if they’re available in the the US by then. MGS is the best golf site on the Internet due to the knowledge and comments from it’s Staff and members..

MGS was the source causing me to purchase the Cleveland Altitude 588 Driver this year. I’m 63, 5ft – 7in, 130lbs, so MGS’s article, describing the 588 Driver as one that truely delivers added distance off the tee for slower swing speeds , caught my attention. I am delighted with what the 588 has done for my game, but even more so with the realization that MGS is the gold standard for accurate, unbiased info on golf equipment performance.

I’ve been reading MGS for quite awhile but only joined a year ago. What a great group! Love the datacratic testing. Picked up several things from reviews, so here’s my bag.

Driver: SLDR with Hiskei Wave shaft
3-wood: RBZ original (don’t like the white, but can’t argue with results)
      3&5 hybrids: also RBZ original
      Irons: 5-GW Ping i20
Wedges: SCOR 54 & 58. (Probably add more based on current forum testing)
Putter: Heavy Putter 31in. (Yes, it’s a ladies) with BestGrips MicroPerf
Ball: Srixon Z-Star, currently, waiting for MGS review.
      Bag & cart: Sun Mountain

All other grips are Pure Grips
Driver, 3-wood & hybrids have Sunfish sock covers. (Love them)

My old set of irons are Macgregor M685 forged which I love and may go back to them if I can find the right graphite shaft. I think they might be a better match to the SCOR wedges.

Gotta vent! Influenced to buy Ping Ketsch because it was the fastest putter to get use to per 15 putts taken by 10 testers on the SAME putt lines all day, well that is INSANE….

How about a putter that actually MAKES putts on the golf course??

I don’t make any golf equipment purchases period, without first gathering as much information as possible. MyGolfSpy is always my go source for information topped only by actual Demo of equipment.

Maybe not what you want to hear but your website has occasionally stopped me from making a purchase because the small increase in distance or accuracy just wasn’t worth the $400 investment.

My first real memory of visiting MGS was reading the review of the Adams 9064LS driver. I had just gone through trying out a few different drivers, settling on the Titleist 910 D2 before reading your review. Even though I had just purchased the Titliest curiosity got the better of me and I snagged the Adams off e-bay for a cheap enough price so I ended up with two drivers instead of one. The first trip to the range with the Adams had me convinced I had made a good choice. Over the past few seasons I tried going back to the Titleist but I found myself always coming back to the 9064LS. It’s still in my bag and just recently I sent the 910 down the road. Thanks MGS for helping me find a driver I like….not that I hit it great all the time but I have more confidence in it than other drivers I’ve owned in the past. I am really starting to itch again though to try out the Ping G25 or G30 having ready so many good things about it’s combination of distance and forgiveness.

I’ve been reading MGS reviews for years and have made several purchases and avoided others because of MGS reviews. Being an engineer myself, I love all the data and controlled testing.

I almost always look for MGS reviews when making purchases which apparently ends up being quite often by looking at what I have in the garage. The purchases directly influenced include:

      Adam 9064LS driver
      Cobra Amp Driver

      Titleist 910H Hybrid
      Cleveland Mashie Hybrid

Have been reading/contributing to discussions on MGS for a number of years now. Most of my club/ ball/ GPS etc purchases have been influenced by MGS over a number of years.
I still play my Wilson FG tour Irons (original model) due to info gleaned on this website.
I’m looking at getting fitted at Wishon golf for my next set as MGS has raised awareness of proper fitting. Bought a Callaway Razrfit Xtreme driver based on the driver comparisons and now play a Tour Exotics xgc7 beta for the same reason.
I like the data being made available even if I sometimes scratch my head when a proven long drive club like Krank’s offerings come up short. I speculate that your test group covers a wide range of swing speed golfers and Krank really doesn’t suit slower swing speed guys and hence, overall lower numbers. Just the same, I find value in most of the equipment based, data related information.

Based on reviews/recommendations here, I have put in the bag:
Wilson FG Tour V2 irons. Been playing 3 years now I think, best irons I’ve ever had bar none. Never would have thought I was good enough for these. In fact, they are easy to hit, and I think I’ve improved my iron game because of the confidence I have in them.
Powerbilt AirForce One Driver. Not gaming it now, but it is a nice driver.
Callaway Razr Fit Extreme. Seemed to have performance comparable to any other driver out there, and when I could get it on a crazy low price from Callaway Pre-owned, I pulled the trigger. My favorite driver I’ve ever played.
Nuun drink tablets. I use these daily.
STX X-form putter. I’d been monitoring these since the review you posted a couple years back. As expected, they went on clearance recently and I picked up 3 of them for $90! They are as good as any putter out there, the feel is second to none. At $30, a no-brainer.

Now you need a hybrid shootout – I need to replace the one I have!

Relatively new to the game (just finished my first year) I relied heavily on MGS to guide me through my club selections. Everything aside from my putter, I’ve read the review on MGS.

      Ping G25
      Ping i25 irons
      Nike 3-4 covert hybrid
      Callaway Xhot 3-Wood

I didn’t pick my clubs because of the data though really. It was more of an understanding WHAT FEELS GOOD to me, then having the numbers help me understand what I’m working with. Being a newer player, my swing has changed, my clubhead speed has changed, my overall feel has changed. I will still look to MGS though to guide me to my club purchases.

I game a Ping Ketsch and Leupold GX-3i2 directly as a result of the reviews from MGS, All my gear/clubs are custom fit and therefore chosen purely on their performance…apart from the MP-58’s I fell in love with, but again they’re custom fit too.
Your reviews are always the starting point for product research because they seem more based in fact, rather than regurgitating marketing patter.

Regardless of how good the reviews are here, if you only want to spend money on clubs when needed, get properly fitted.

My bag won’t ever contain a brand new driver, £30 an hour for hiring a launch monitor, patience and ebay mean that the Cally/TMAG model will never be for me.

It’s nice to see other golf websites now stating their reviews are “data-driven”.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

      Here’s my setup:
      Driver: PING G20 10.5′
      3Wood: PING G20 15′
      Hybrids: PING G25 3&4
      Irons: Adams Super S 5-Pw
      Wedges: PING Tour S 54&60′
      Putter: PING Karsten Anser 2 1959 33″

Pretty obvious that I’m a PING guy, but I never had a feel for their irons.
I picked up the G20 driver because of the review I read on this site. I agreed with the review in that the rating should have been higher. I guess the testers didn’t like the look even though it was one of the longest drivers they ever tested. I love the look and feel. Thinking of upgrading to the G25 but I’m a little hesitant of changing clubs.

      Irons: Cobra AMP Cell
Wedges: Titleist Titleist Vokey SM4 / Cleveland CG 15

Let’s see what reading MGS has gotten me.

Driver + Hybrid: Cobra Bio Cell
Irons: Miuras PP9003 with different colored ferrules and grips. Thanks to T for that brilliant idea.
Wedge: Miura 51 deg and Cobra Tour Trusty 56 deg
      Ball: Wilson Duo

The only things left will be putter and fairway. Putter I’m still thinking of a Ping Ketsch or others. Fairway will probably be another Cobra Bio Cell.

Wow reading this website is bad for my wallet.

The thing is, I live in Singapore so I’ll have to check if they are marked down here as well. Else I might just try getting from Rockbottom.

Let’s see now… Based on the Most Wanted Fairway review a couple years back, I got a slightly used Callaway Razr Fit fairway on eBay for about $120 – easily the best golf equipment purchase I have ever made, as it has drastically improved my game off the tee. I got an Adams Pro A12 hybrid and MP-T11 wedges, also based on MGS’s ultimate reviews, and have been extremely happy with them. Finally, I got fit for Mizuno MP-64s last year after reading about all of the superb reviews about Mizuno irons here on the blog and on the forums. Truly, MGS has made a real impact in how I look at equipment and the bag I use today.

The golf industry generally is unchanged in my view. Golfers skills have not really improved due to newer technology over the years in fact to me scores are not really improving as the manufacturers would like you to think.

With the above said 1 club has definitely changed my golf around after phil won the British with it and also after reading your review.the callaway xhot 3 deep. It’s changed golf in many ways especially by helping me keep the ball in play off the tee so I don’t have to many big numbers. Drivers to me really are a farce you may hit 1 in 5 20 yards further but the extra long shafts sold to us consumers mean atleast 1 in that 5 you will need to send out a search party to retrieve it.

So to summarise the callaway 3 deep is a game changer that I feel more golfers would be better served using if they looking to improve.

Could not agree more !!! So many players think the new technology makes them better,, when reality is,, only real practice & playing will,,,,,
I put my driver(s) away over 6 years ago,,, I was able to find a 13 degree hybrid that I have been hitting anywhere from 230-255 yds & all the time, rarely sending a ball way out of play….
As my eyesight is waning I wear glasses,, but reading and distance are different,,,),,,,, it was becoming more difficult to hit the ball square with the hybrid,, I just recently purchased the Taylor Made SLDR Mini-Driver (12 degree) and have been able to now get a better visual when addressing the ball,,,,,,,
I have anywhere from 210-230 yard carry with it, but like the hybrid,,, I do not lose the ball way left or right off the tee…. add roll & bounce,,, I will take 240yds in play any day of the week,,,,,, especially from 6500 yds or less,,,,,
      so true Sean,,, so true…….

When the I first tried the mizuno jpx 800 pro irons,I couldn’t believe that I was fitted with the stiff shafts. I procrastinated. Then they came out with the 825 pros and the same thing, the stiff shafts. I look a chance and I am glad I did. Absolutely love them. One regret is I should have gotten the gap wedge instead of the 4 iron.

Bought a Krank Formula 5 Driver Head last year, best driver head I’ve ever hit, a driving range owner yelled at me for hitting balls into weeds at the back of the range. Sweet music to my ears. W/out MGS review never would have considered Krank.

      And then the training aids…..
Tour Striker 7 Iron, good training club. Wish I could hit my 7 iron like this.
Tour Tempo (dink, dink, dink, cha, cha, cha), Has potential but a pain to use earphone doesn’t stay in ear, cord is too short. On/Off gets inadvertently switched on in bag then battery goes dead,
SwingWing resistance training aid (got a hole in it after a month, called manufacturer, they said to glue it, gee thanks)

This website is always a great source of information on new products. What more can you ask for?

Just goes to show how irrelevant this site is. If myself and 5 of my buddy’s who grew up drinking bud light decided to get together and rate other beers I think the results would be flawed. Hence… “the mostly not wanted list”

Again, if you were to draw an accurate comparison, it would be something along the lines of you and 5 other completely different people that did not grow up all drinking the same thing (in fact different beers as well as different ages), putting together a review of different beers. This is similar to how the testers are selected as a range of handicaps, areas, and current clubs to get a more statistically relevent result.

If you’re going to insult the website and the hard work people put into it then you might as put forward relevant arguements.

Isn’t that where the whole best performing average across the range of testers comes into play? And they also don’t advocate just going out and buying straight off the list, that just shows poor judgement when buying the clubs. It is meant to be used as a tool when considering buying new clubs and you actually go out and atleast try them and compare them with others and perhaps even get fit while you’re there.

Aside from my mainstream purchases I was inspired by the MGS article, 15 Craziest Golf Club (Irons) Ever Made! I was driven to put together the craziest set I could. I came across a set of Lil’ David Slinger Irons at a local thrift store, added a Maxfli Maltby Torque Arm Putter and slid them into a 1940’s green and black striped Atlantic vinyl golf bag. I’m struggling if I should go with the original Orizaba Power Pod driver or the new Tiger Shark Power Pod II driver. I’ll probably go with some Looney Toons headcovers. As a final touch I may round up an aluminum pull cart with big, retro, spoked wheels. Loud Mouth outfit will be the crowning cherry on top.

For me these new additions have worked out very well. They are everything and more then your review. My wedges I have the Taylormade fe203 56/52. Putter is a Odyssey White hot Ice mallet. I am hitting more fairways now with the Cleveland driver then ever before the 3/5 wood shots are very straight. and have given myself a chance for better score hitting more greens in regulations. After following closely the blade and mallet reviews over the last two years, and my girlfriend offering to buy me a new putter for my birthday I started testing for myself. While I haven’t bought anything yet the only things that I am seriously testing (simply because they have felt the best after trying just about everything in my pricerange) are putter that have come in the top 5 or 3 in the most wanted tests. I’m am trying to find a Ping Ketsch with it being put on hold recently, I am also looking at buying a Taylormade Daytona 12 or Ping Karstan Anser 2. Thats #1 for both mallet and blade and #2 for blade al vying for a spot in my bag. I wouldn’t have even thought of trying these putters if it wasn’t for the most wanted tests, not simply because they won but because they gave me a starting point, and they feel far better then everything I have tried.

You guys have had a big affect on what’s in my bag. I bought a set of Wilson FG Tours V2s because of your reviews. I tried them side by side with the Adams CMBs and the KBS shafts pushed me to the Wilsons. I should add I have a soft spot in my heart for Wilson because I still like to play with my FG-17s from time to time. I bought them new in 79 or 80 and they are still very fine blades. Then after fighting too many times with my Titleist 910 D3 I tried a G25 Ping after reading your Driver tests and now it has a home in my bag. Of course after getting new irons
I had to look harder at my wedges out went some old 588s 52-56-60 replaced with a set of Callaway Forged wedges 50-54-58 your reviews also had a hand in me getting them in my bag. Last but not least a Ping Redwood ZB putter. Thanks for the many fine reviews you always seem to be on top of what’s new before anybody else come out with it.

For me, it was the wedges. I play 1-2 years behind the current line up due to my limited finances and the review the the Mizuno MP T11 was my gold. I had a set of clone clubs , not knock offs, and an old sand wedge from Diamond Head, and Golden Bear Costco special lob wedge. After reading the MP T11 review, i tried them and added them to my set of JPX 800 Pro irons and have been luvin it. I’ve had my irons gapped 4 degrees apart and my wedges 5 degrees and have been awesomely consistent for a 20 capper. I’m currently reading shaft reviews to upgrade from my stock Aldila RIP wood and hybrid shafts to something more like fujikura speeder VCs or RIP phenoms.

Nothing at all wrong with playing older equipment, as long as it is GOOD equipment. For many people there is very little to be gained by upgrading from good clubs to newer ones. I just barely traded away my 15-year-old Taylormade Firesole irons. I really didn’t need to… they worked just fine. And it was only last year that I upgraded from my 20-year-old TM Burner Bubble woods. MGS is right on in that a lot of the new offerings are unnecessary and are more market-share desperation than technology breakthroughs. Just use what works for you, regardless of the age. Good luck.

I read the MGS driver review, and was interested in the Taylormade SLDR. So I contacted Taylormade. An online rep chatted with me and after discussing my age, handicap, swing speed, etc, he recommended the JetSpeed driver over the SLDR. I actually tried both and there was only about a 10 yard difference at best. So I bought the JetSpeed at about half the price of the SLDR. I had it three weeks before I went into my local pro shop to demo the Adams XTD Ti. Before the MGS review, I didn’t know anything about the Adams XTD. After about 20 balls, I traded for the Adams on the spot. It made that much difference for me. So although I didn’t set out looking for the Adams driver, it was the MGS review that opened my eyes to it. And changed my golf game for the better.

Some pretty serious health issues knocked me out of the game for 2 years. When I went to pick it back up I had Mizuno and Miura irons with steel shafts and a Titleist 910 D2 driver. My swing speed dropped from 95 to 78 (Now up to 85 whoopee!!) . Ironically it was the article on the SLDR driver where you called it the real deal that got me to take the plunge (at full retail after a fitting). Well the slope was greased and since I love pulling shafts (get your mind out of the gutter) my WITB
SLDR 12 degree with Matrix 5×3 White Tie R flex
SLDR HL 3 wood with Mitubishi Rayon Bassara 53g Rflex
SLDR 5 wood with Fujikura Blur A Flex
Tour Edge 4 and 2 hybrids (stock Fuji and Matrix r Flexes respectively)
SLDR irons 5-pw with Matrix Kujoh A flex shafts
Mizuno 52 and 58 degree with spinner shafts ( from pre injury)
      Mizuno Bettinardi Putter (pre-injury)

I’m a believer is aftermarket shafts as a priority but I must say The SLDR driver gradually sold me on the complete line and once I realized that playing forged irons with steel shafts was behind me I’m at peace. (At least I think so)

While I mostly go by what a club feels like, I am fortunate enough to be close enough to a dealer (Edwin Watts) who will let me take clubs out and try them before I buy them. Obviously, I have been fitted before and know what works best for me. That said, My Driver, 3 wood and hybrid are all Sldr. My irons are Mizuno MP-64,s and my wedges are Callly Mack Daddy 2. They all feel quite similar and just plain work for me.

As far as a putter, I am a little bit fickle with them. My favorite right now is an older Kevin Burns. That said, over the years I have probably bought enough putters to loan one to everyone in an entire (large) putting clinic. I buy one every 1-11/2 years and have been playing for over 35 years. You can do the math. I never give one away or sell it. Just put it in a dark corner until it stops being bad. Have putters from 8802’s to one of those original Cameron Futura jobbies. Even have a Hogan Apex HB-1. And no, the Futura has not seen the light of day for a LOOOOONG time.

After making some adjustments, I was able to get it online and go where I wanted it to go. I won the low putts prize for our tournament the first time I put it in play.

Let me start by saying that I’ve only been playing serious golf since my father passed away in 2007. The reason I did is because I inherited his golf clubs. As I played more and more, I wanted to know more about the game, the equipment etc…

Without a doubt, 99% of my bag is full of either articles, reviews or opinions made on this site. The 1% being my YES! putter (who has managed his way back into my bag lol). This site is the FIRST site I go to when I want to know more about what is going on. The people here who contribute to the site and the forum, as well as the many informative blogs written by people who I feel are mostly unbiased (maybe the exception of the how many drivers have been released article that I have a slight problem with). It’s extremely gratifying and refreshing to come here and get the “real” scoop. It’s one of the main reasons I donated to the site also. I want this site to stay. When I am able to donate more, I will. Long live Mygolfspy!!

As a newcomer to this site, I haven’t been ready to purchase new clubs since I’ve started reading your excellent work. However, its not about what’s in my bag, but what IS my bag. I purchased an Ogio Chamber based on your recommendation, and I absolutely love it. Thanks!

I play a Tour issue RBZ Stage 2 11* driver down to a 10* and 2 degrees open, it has a Matrix ozik tp 7 hd at 44″stiff. I hit it between 250-270. Tipping it down to 44″ made it stiffer and I hit the center of the face more often for the longer drives. I hit about 15-20% out to about 300 yards but they are one or two per round. I play hybrids RBZ stage 2 tour in 18.5*, 23* and 28* with Matrix Ozik Altus Stiff Flex Hybrid Shafts. I play an Adams a12 os 15* hybrid with a Matrix Ozik Program H7.1 in place of a 3 wood because I hit it far better from the rough than I hit a 3 wood and just as far the best part is it only cost me $23 on ebay. I use these hybrids because they fly higher than the irons they replaced and tend to stick tight upon landing. I play KZG Forged III irons with I700 graphite shafts. I have played these most of the last 12 years, I have KZG zo irons with the same shafts and for a year and a half then I switched to Miura CB 501 irons with KBS shafts for a year and a half. I played well with both sets of players irons but not better than I had with the KZG Forged III irons and the Forged III irons were far more forgiving on miss hits. I love these irons. When I originally bought them I had the fitter tap over the backs of all the irons so that I wouldn’t be influenced by the brand names just the feel. I went in for 3 hitting sessions and got it down to three irons I couldn’t tell apart, two were the same KZG Forged III with different finishes and the Mizuno mp 52 irons, 2 to 1 so I went with the KZGs. My wedges are all Cleveland, 588 forged in 50*-8, CG12 DSG RTG in 54*-10 and 58*-8. I love the DSG sole grind it makes picking the ball off the fairways easier. My putter is a custom putter I found at a golf show. It is a Positive Putter build to fit me, it is 33″ blade style 360 grams 303 stainless steel gold in color for less glare with a Winn oversize grip. The extraordinary feature is it’s balance, if I put it on my index fingers it balances perfectly with the toe of the head pointing strait up. This putter swings in a perfect pendulum if I just let it. My handicap ranges from between Plus 2 and 6 over the last 10 years 3.2 today. I play about 100-130 rounds per year and have tried many top tier clubs to include a tour issue Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter and an SLDR driver along with the irons I have mentioned earlier. I can say I have never been happier with my bag than I am right now!!!

I value the tests and reviews you guys do, they directly impact the equipment I purchase as I feel your tests and reviews are more geared to the average hack that I am.
Most recently I have added 3 pieces of equipment from this years, driver, fairway wood and putter golf’s most wanted reviews, they include:

      Taylor Made SLDR driver
      Callaway big Bertha 3 wood
Taylor Made Ghost tour Daytona 12 putter

For me, I don’t necessarily buy into the TMAG marketing hype, so bagging the driver and putter was a big pill to swallow but I have to admit they have helped my game and I’m thankful to MyGolfSpy for helping change my mind. In the past I have also purchased the Scor 4161 wedges, I’m on my second set, and again if not for MyGolfSpy I would not even know the company existed, so thanks for all the hard work you guys do, I really do appreciate it and I can honestly say it’s all helped my game.

I went back and forth for a long time on what Laser to spend my hard earned money on. After reading the MWLRF article I decided on the Leupold GX-3i due to the speed and the red reticle. I can honestly say I was not disappointed! Several of my buddies who owned or wanted Bushnells now own Leupolds after using my 3i. Sadly, mine was stolen out of my bag at a driving range and I didn’t have the money to replace it (It had actually gone up $50 since I bought mine because it had become so popular). I ended up purchasing a RAZR (for $100 less) which gets the job done but not with same speed and ease of the 3i. I really enjoy playing with my buddies who have the 3i, it brings back pleasant memories.

I’ve been searching for a putter for the last year. When your “putter results” were posted, I tore through the findings!!! Upon seeing how well testers did with the Ping Ketsch, I was on a mission to own one! I went to my local store for WEEKS waiting for their first Ketsch model to show-up. It finally did. I tested it on the putting green for 30 minutes! I loved it. I had it in my bag within two weeks! If I don’t read the putter test results here on MGS, I’m still looking for a putter!

Shoot I have Irons that are couple years old CObra Amp Cells, with KBS Tour C Taper Stiff standard everything. These have been the best for me hands down. And I have tried all others everywhere with fittings and this are awesome. Got them blind from a buddy in LA. Also My wedges are Ping Tours from neighbor with Spinner DG shafts, love those but go back and forth with Cobra Trusty wedge set. Both are fun and easy to hit. My hybrid and wood and driver is Krank. I have the ability to test whatever I want on different machines and play on lots of course in PHX, and so far nothing has come to kick it off. And no matter where I work at I can play what I want. its not on my contract to hit Krank either.

      So in the bag currently:

TM SLDR – purchased after the best driver test and then my own testing against other drivers, and then the great support of the MGS members in helping with questions.
TM RBZ stage 2 fairway – purchased after the MGS member user testing.
Adams Tight lies fairway – tested myself after hearing about it first on MGS
TM RBZ stage 2 rescue – tested because of positive comments on the forum
Ping i20 irons – went and got fitted for these after hearing positive comments from MGS and the members of the forum; outperformed all the other irons I tested.

So when I’m thinking about a new club, I look at what MGS has to say, consider the views of the excellent members of the forums and then back this with thorough testing and fitting.

MGS does not make my decisions, it helps me to focus and think about what might be best for me – keep it going MGS.

I am not one to jump on a band wagon or buy something just for the sake of buying. I typically keep my drivers and wedges for 4 years, irons for more, and putters for even more. And I’m not a big training/swing aid guy either. But your review of The Orange Whip was the push that I need to purchase one. It is, by far, the best and most effective warm up/swing training aid I’ve ever tried and purchased. And my friends agree – they all have to swing it before we hit the first tee.

Tough to narrow down the purchases, but I’ll do my best to keep it to just a few :)

TMaG SLDR, I would have never had the experiences and performance with this club if it wasn’t for MGS. Getting fit at the Kingdom was a once in a lifetime experience and it’s all thanks to MGS. It’s still in the bag and I haven’t changed a thing since I got it.

Asher gloves, first read about them here and started using them. You can’t beat the color choices and performance for the price of a ten buck chuck. That they performed well in the glove review was a nice bonus as well.

I picked up Speedblade irons this year as well thanks in large part to the review by MBP. They were on my radar, but since I already had the Amp Cells from the previous years reviews it was a tough decision to switch. I’m very happy with the results though!

I honestly don’t think there is a club in my bag that wasn’t discussed at some point on the forum with a solid review. For me this is the place to go for #datacratic reviews and all around solid advice on the forums.

Actually, reading your recent review of irons saved me money instead. I’ve had Adams Idea MB2 irons for a few years. I occasionally get the itch to buy a new set. Last year I demoed irons at Dick’s alongside my irons. Guess which I hit better. A month or so ago I got the itch again & went to the MGS Ultimate Review of irons. Best rated? The ones in my bag. So still have the best irons & the savings are great!

I’ve used the Most Wanted Lists from MyGolfSpy as my bible when buying new clubs, bags, gloves, and gadgets. My biggest purchase of the year was the Ping G25 driver due to its performance in the most wanted tests, and it has given me a level of performance and confidence that I had never felt in a driver before.

I was custom fitted with a set of KZG irons years ago. Hit them fairly well but decided to replace the clubs as I got older. Purchased the Taylormade 2.0″s, hit them straighter but lost over ten yards per club. I eventually still scored well after learning to play with the yardage difference. Recently I decided to replace these with the Adams XTD irons. During the fitting process I hit the Adams 15 yards further per club than the 2.0’s. Of course this was on an indoor simulator that is for lack of a better word, unreliable. I like the set-up and feel of the these clubs and am eager to get these irons out on the course. Can’t wait to see if the distance gain is a reality or just more hype!

Well, I for one am not someone that can go out and buy brand new, current release equipment very often. What helps me, and why I always come to MyGolfSpy is the trove of archived reviews of most any clubs that I may think about purchasing. Just this summer I was in the market for a new set of irons to replace my Callaway RazrX set (that I didn’t particularly like). I found a great deal online for TM SpeedBladez Tour set, and immedately came here for reviews and comments from other members. I liked that I get honest and accurate assessments of equipment. I went and hit a set locally based on what I read, and got the set. Love the irons. Every future club purchase will start here.

Nothing could be more #Datacratic-oriented than getting fit for clubs, which I likely would not have thought so important before I joined the MGS community. It is the club-buying mantra most often used here, and rightly so. So, I scheduled a club fitting for irons and a driver 2 1/2 years ago and ended up with the i20 5-PW and i20 driver. My game has since improved for various reasons, not the least of which is playing with equipment fitted for me- shaft length and stiffness, lie adjustments, etc. These are things I would not have considered without the influence of the MGS staff and forum members. So, not technically a #Datacratic review, but definitely data-focused and definitely as a result of my participation on MGS.

Being a long time and yes continuing to struggle 63 year old left -handed golfer, I carry a mixed bag. My sons constantly say “Dad it is the crappy swing , not the clubs”. Maybe so. Year after year I put a new driver in the bag; often the same results. This year; however, after losing 45 pounds and a new Nike VRS 2.0 driver results are getting better. Will never hit a 250 yard drive, but more consistency and finding fairways. Old Man Golf not so bad. Irons – an older set of Adams A-3 Idea 6-pw. Graphite reg shafts. Ping G 25 23 degree hybrid, reg shaft. Ping G 20 17 degree 4 wood. Wedge-56 degree Mizuno JPX. Putter, SeeMore original FGP, and my forever standby a ladies Patty Burke PGA Tournament putter I have had since 8th grade. My love. Still has the original leather grip.

I’ve purchased quite a few items based on your reviews. I find your reviews informative and objective and they are always the starting point for any golf related product I’m looking for.

I’ve purchased everything from big ticket items like GPS watch, driver, putting green to smaller items like gloves and tees.

I used the Most Wanted Driver article from last year to choose a Callaway Razr Fit Extreme. I am hitting more fairways and driving the ball significantly longer.

For convenience and improving knowledge I switched from a Skycaddie SGXw to
Garmin Approach S4 based on the reviews here. The yardages were the same and I gave up some options such as hazard locations but not having to carry around a larger handheld device was worth it.

I got the BirdyBall Putting Green and am working on improving my putting but that’s still in the air – for the price, I haven’t found anything even close. It still has the feel of shipping foam to me but I will eventually get over that.

I also purchased the Asher golf gloves and Four More Yards Tees that I am very satisfied.

Thanks again for all of your great work and reviews.

I recently bought new irons, after having been looking, and trying out stuff for more than a year. Many irons that I tried I had read about on MSG, even if I still think there have been too little focus on the irons of late. But this story isn’t mainly about the club model, it’s about the shaft.

Since I have a rather slow swing speed and am less than athletic I always end up in the “graphite” and regular to soft-regular area when fitting based on clubhead speed and ball speed. However I also hit very high shots, with a high number on launch angle, and I have always felt that ordinary graphite makes me hit the ball even more up into the air, and that I don’t like the “mushy” soft feel they used to have.

But then I read about UST Recoil on MSG and I got very intigued about the possiblilty to get a slightly lighter shaft, that is soft enough in flex but still with a more iron-like feel. It felt just right for me. Through a professional fitter / club maker I got the chance to try them and I ended up getting the new Callaway Apex with UST Recoil shafts in the 800-series. JUST PERFECT!!

LOL… From the 2014 MGS Most Wanted Driver -Distance Awards, I could not help but notice Krank came in dead last. Yet they are the ones that win the long drive in Vegas every 4 out of 5 years. Thinking Krank knows something about distance, so what happened? So I hollered at them. One thing led to another, and my custom Krank driver arrived early this Summer. Straight and LONGER is the rest of the story!! As I expected, Krank’s expertise in distance can not be surpassed, and is only match by my expertise in the having the best putter in the world as well. I now have the best bookends EVER in my bag, now to find the filler clubs.

I have a degenerative eye condition, and over the last 3 seasons I’ve been looking into bright colored golf balls to help me see the ball better. The only problem? Most colored golf balls are made of granite. I found this website during a search of Volvik golf balls, and I’ve been coming back daily since. Your review prompted me to purchase a dozen Vista balls in bright pink, and the difference in visibility for me is tremendous. I still lose my playing partners ball in flight, but the Vista is almost like the Pro Tracer funcion when watching a PGA event on TV. That, and the spin around the greens is more than my playing ability can use.

Have been playing the original Tommy Armour irons (G-Loomis graphite stiff shaft) for 28 (?) years,,,, even though I am now 55 years young, still have as much distance with them as I did, 15 & 20 years ago.
Cleveland wedges, 53, 56 & 60 degrees help the short game (Ha, ha !!!)
I have replaced the 3 & 4 irons with a 22 & 25 degree TA hybrids (just so much easier to hit).
Also carry a 17 degree Adams hybrid and recently replaced a 13 degree hybrid (that I used as my driver) with the new Taylor Made SLDR Mini-driver (so far so good).
As for putting,,,, changing putters has never really helped the game, so I am playing the same Taylor Made Nubbins putter I won from Killian’s in a bar putting contest about 12 years ago !! Maybe I should drink more when I golf, I might putt better !!!

For all of you counting,,, it is 14 !! within the rules…

He’s a wonderful guy, and he has a really great product. Add in his fitting capabilities, and you have a fantastic combination. I really love my Machine, and I have all the confidence in the world that I have the right setup for my putting stroke and style. The results have been there, too, as I’ve putted a lot better since getting the Machine sorted.

I have been a big follower of the Most Wanted club series and have often put in play clubs based on recommendations from this series. My greatest success story to date has been the Ping Ketsch putter. I was amazed at the results of the testing so I had to check it out. Rolling it indoors it felt buttery smooth so I made the leap and bought it. Bottom line: Best decision ever! I’m not a long hitter so I have to make up strokes on or around the green. The Ketsch did that for me. Significant increase in one putts. And to top it off, mainly because of this putter, I won the award in my league for Most Improved Golfer by lowering my handicap 3 strokes over the course of the league. Deep grooves or not, this is a great putter. I’ll take the $30 rebate and keep rolling in the putts…thank you very much!!!

I recently changed from Titleist ap2 forged irons to Ping G25. I am 64 years old in good health. My driver swing speed is about 90. I also changed drivers from Ping G25 to Ping G30. After club change my handicap just dropped from 4 to 3 (2.8 index). The new Ping irons are just easier to hit and my ball fight is higher. I feel this club change helped me and I would recommend others consider changing to a more forgiving iron.

After comparing all the Test data I went fir the Taylor Made SDLR driver and the Rocket Ball irons. It helped my golf a lot as I can see a daily improvement. I did add the Taylor Made Spider Putter. No more 3 putts. Thanks for all the reviews it help a lot.

The SLDR has been a true revelation for me. Reading the reviews I knew that this driver should fit my game – I launch it high, it’s meant to launch high, I struggle with spin, it’s meant to reduce spin.

So I went to a couple of demo days and then found a nice deal on global golf. It’s been in my bag since March with very unexpected results. I’m only marginally longer than with my old driver but I am so straight that I’d be willing to take Iron Byron on for accuracy. I’ve had oodles of rounds this summer where I have not missed a fairway and that straight and consistent distance trumps what ever else was going on with my game prior.

Actually getting fit properly for irons….. Have the Ping i25s, loved the feel buy my dispersion rate wasn’t the greatest for a 5 handicap. I went to a local, very professional clubfitter, finally….and he said I was fighting my own swing with the stock stiff Ping shafts. He put me in the KBS V shafts in X flex (yes, from stiff to X) and my dispersion rate is 1/3 of what it was before, and I’m hitting the ball higher and longer. So every time somebody here tells you to go and get properly fitted for your equipment, well, I listen now.

After reading and comparing the data in the most wanted driver section I went and hit a Nike Covert 2.0 Driver. It lived up to the information in the study. It was ultra forgiving on mishits with minimal ball speed loss on slight mishits. I never would’ve ever picked it up if not for the My Golf Spy information. After changing out the shaft and getting the loft correctly dialed in I was amazed but not surprised at the distance and forgiveness this club delivered. Straight down the fairway is my new mantra. So yes I bought it and put it in the bag. Thanks!

      Man, where to start…

When looking for new irons a couple years back, your reviews of the Wilson FG V2’s blew me away, as did the review for the Mizuno MP-59’s. Really wanted to get fit for the Wilson’s but couldn’t find a Wilson fitter. Did find a Mizzy fitter, so those went in the bag. The right sticks and some sound teaching from my pro made golf fun again.

Bought an Adams Tight Lies based on the accuracy testing, but didn’t like it. Wound up trading it in for another FW that tested well, the Cally X2Hot (2 Deep – now my favorite stick n the bag!).

Also bought a Cally RAZR rangefinder based on your testing (a winner!!!), and am now an Asher Gloves fan.

For me it was learning about the PING Irons. I have since gone to the i20’s and my game have never looked better. Love all the reviews.

I bought some golf clubs at a pawn shop 3 years ago and I’ve played with those exclusively. I finally had the opportunity to get a new club this summer and I went with a putter, I figured I hit more shots with that club more than any other, so that should be my first real golf investment. For Father’s Day I was waffling between the Taylormade Daytona putter and the Odyssey Versa 2. Something about the Odyssey just felt perfect for me, so I went ahead and spent way more for the putter than I did for all my clubs combined.

Ever since then my scores have dropped (not amazing, down to 41 or 42) but I now have the irrational confidence to step up to a 20 foot putt for par and darin it. Feels great.

Getting fitted for a putter and being surprised with an odyssey #9, while moving away from a mallet! More putts made! More fun on the course!

After comparing last year’s MGS’s driver test results to my own and finding a close correlation, I jumped on this year’s Most Wanted Mallet Putter test with a relish. My Odyssey 2-ball was betraying me, so I was in the market for a replacement. I bought the MWM winner, the Ping Ketsch, as soon as I could find one and put it through my own serious test. I found some differences between the MGS results, but my overall conclusion was the same… the Ping Ketsch is a phenomenal putter. It has been in my bag ever since.

Now, as Paul Harvery would say, the “Rest of the Story”. Ping mysteriously stopped production on the Ketsch a mere four months after launch and eventually offered existing owners a $30 partial rebate because of “defectively” over-deep grooves in the Ketsch’s face. I don’t care, I’m still using it and somehow the too-deep grooves are still rolling putts in.
