We apologize to those of you that came to the site previously to see the TM R11 pictures and were not able to view them. The photos that were sent to us were claimed to be copyrighted images from TM (even though I still don’t think we have seen any documentation stating that as fact) that got leaked out. And after many phone calls and emails back and forth with the TM’s lawyers we decided to remove the images from our site for the first time. The images appeared on our site and many other sites and built a tremendous amount of buzz for their product. But TM decided instead of getting the word out about their club they would rather spend their time and money having their lawyers contact all these sites and try and force them to take them down. To each their own. They did seem to spend a lot of time and energy trying to keep these secret…just about anyone and everyone that came in contact with this club I was told had to sign an NDA saying they would not release info or photos of the head. So I guess I understand..kidding I don’t understand at all. When is the golf industry going to learn? The automobile industry has been doing this for decades…ever heard of the Detroit Auto Show? They have been showing consumers concept cars and amazing images of prototype vehicles way before they get released…it gets the consumer excited about the chance of getting to drive one when they finally release that car some 2-3 years later.

Pretty interesting how this business works…I wish you guys could be a fly on the wall in my office…one of these days I will write an article about it all. I think you would be utterly shocked. Anyways we got in this to help the consumer and beleive it or not the industry to…we thought it would be great for both sides…by providing a service that we felt was needed…no fluff no bs material…and also to try and help bring this industry up to speed with many of the other industries you see that have embraced the Web 2.o and social media atmosphere. But unlike the tech and auto industries golf companies still seem to refuse to see the value. Actually I take that back…almost 100% of the heads of marketing I speak to from the major golf OEM’s think or at least they tell us they think it’s a great idea what we are doing…just seems their bosses are still a little behind the times. Oh well…we are still going to continue doing what we do and maybe one day they will start to turn the corner. Anyway we want to thank those companies that we deal with that do embrace what we are trying to do and to those that don’t…well…I will leave it at that for now.

I won the Razr Hawk in a raffle, then took it back to the shop it came from to exchange for a stiffer shaft. I ended up trading it for the R11 after hitting both clubs on a simulator. With the same swing speed I was hitting the R11 5-10 yds longer. I’m not going to play with the face angle or weights, but the ability to turn it into an 8 deg, 9 deg, or 10 deg loft depending on the conditions is really nice. I’ve hit it at all three loft settings and really liked how it translated in terms of trajectory. I’ll rarely change those settings but I do like having the option for windy days (8 deg) or wet fairways (10 deg). Razr Hawk has the same price tag and has no such features, so it was a no brainer.

A lot of people are over analyzing the white head. It’s fine if you don’t like the style, but there are no problems whatsoever due to the brightness, and no ‘negative’ image during the take away. I used it for 30 minutes in bright sun at a range, and these thoughts never entered my mind until I read the posts. In fact, the white has a matte like finish, so you don’t get a sun spot in your eye like you do with most glossy finished drivers. Besides, I never heard anyone complain about white shoes.

And you want to talk about a corny paint job? I’m not a fan when companies use paint jobs to give the appearance of complex materials, like the detailed art work on the bottom of the Razr Hawk.

The truth is that the technology today doesn’t really differ that much from company to company whether the head of a club is white and you can adjust it a gizillion different ways. In my opinion, TaylorMade does the best job of marketing their products but may not have the hottest driver out there. It’s still the Indian, not the arrow. Look how many wins PING G15s have on tour this year. (4 at this writing) TaylorMade’s marketing is strong but judging from the way they have treated GolfSpy (and others) the management and lawyers need to work on their Public Relations. These guys are getting too big for their britches. Stay Humble and You Won’t Stumble –and in my opinion, they’re stumbling on the PR front.

taylormade/adis, you guys hit the nail smack dab on the head. direct shot. this will lead the industry in the right direction. the white club head appears bigger, so instantly you think increased distance. then “bingo” it happens with the same swing you’ve been using. you will start to see other manufactures follow suit, why, because it works. it’s easier to work this driver, by the way the weights are set. IF YOU LIKE GOLF, YOU’LL LOVE THIS DRIVER !!! Save a few well worth it dollars, and purchase this club. remembering that not only will your game improve, but you have a company that stands behind their products. taylormade, i’m glad i made the right choice. … ken

I’d say that this club appeals to people with a strong design sense. What I mean by this is that I recently graduated from school for Industrial Design, and I REALLY love the look of this club. However, it’s easy to see why people would dislike it, especially with something as conservative as golf.

I’m 100% certain that the decision to use white was the decision of the Industrial Designer in charge of this project.

For the most part, the white is a marketing ploy for people who buy based off of what looks cool as opposed to performance. However, if you have two clubs that perform exactly the same, which one do you pick? The one that looks awesome.

Looks are really subjective, though. You’d think they’d focus group a lot of the designs for golf clubs, but I suppose it takes a great deal of time and effort to do so, plus you run the risk of leaks like this.

Hit one today. Perche’ Creek Golf, Columbia, MO. The white crown? No problem or distractions. Adjustability makes a difference. Very light. An 09 Burner felt like a swinging a brick compared to the R11.
Nice unit. However since I wanted to awake with all body parts intact. I didn’t drop the cash. They said 350.00 for me. List 399.00 Yow! Tour I think is 499.00. Whoop de doo.
The G10 in the bag looks GREAT!
May wait til end of summer and purchase just to experiment but then again the post above from”Chrissy” has me wondering.

so you fix your eyes on the alignment aid on top of the white head.
because it was against a dark green background when you move the clubhead away you are now left with a ‘negative-space’ ghost image where the bright white was.
supposedly this helps you … to spend you money. the fact is that the eyes need to fix on a much
smaller spot/target – this bright white is distracting while in place, when sun is bright, and when it is moved into backswing.
Nothing more than marketing to gain real estate in your consumer mind.

R11 is pitiful looking and I’ll never own or sell one. I hit it and it’s not impressive either. Razr Hawk is longer and straighter. PLUS it’s purdy…I can’t figure out why TM thinks white is going to be the new trend. We all witnessed how long the white thing lasted back in 91.

I play PING, but have always used TM drivers. The R9 Supertri has been wonderful. Before, investing in the new model i would like to get a side by side technical comparison.

I am serving as a Marshall at the Hyundai TofC on Maui and almost all TM pros are playing these whiteheads. The color is a soft white and although it is too early for the data to show any improvement in fairways hit and avg distance off the tee, the ones that will comment say they like the white contrast. I think it makes the clubhead look even bigger at setup. It will probably help rather than hurt the amateurs line it up better, but if their swing is off, one cannot expect to hit in the sweet spot more frequently. I would probably buy one for $275 but I will no doubt have to wait until the R12 or R13 comes to market. I am working on my swing and consistency and have a 2010 Titty D2 I really hit well so I am not going to drop any mroe cash chasing the elusive 300 yard drive. I did buy the White Ghost putter and played with it for 12 rounds and it is in the back of my closet now….saw no improvement in my game.

Adidas is terrible!!
The price keeps going up and the Quality keeps going down. Don’t buy it!!! I work in the golf industry and Taylor made products are the most returned product due to breakage problems. And then it takes them 4-6 weeks to fix it. Adidas needs to find a new Product Line Manager to source better and more affordable clothing. I Sure don’t want to pay 109.99 for a golf shirt do you??????

appently you can order your new R11 in country colours…or team colours!! and how is this good for a blokes ego…is TM trying to get us all in touch with our feminine side?? custom fit, custom lessons and a bit of hard work and perseverance is the way to improve!! if i want to look like a twat then i will buy it…cant wait for golf spys tech review….do you thinks its going to get close to the Adams 9064….not in this lifetime!

Mygolfspy….First, This has become my favorite golf ite….Period…
Secondly, I have now bought, because of this site, (1) A Nitrogen filled AirForce One (which by the way has become my best driver)
(2) A set of Heavy wedges (which I prefer over my previous wedges (knocked my Cleve 14 out)’\, and
(3) a new Axis putter (arrived yesterday, played today…still too early to make final decision, but love the feel so far.
I think you may want to buy some stock in me…or the companies you test high!

I can’t afford to keep up with you!!!!

Doc – glad to hear you are enjoying the reviews. We are constantly improving on them and by early 2011 I think you are going to like the improvements.

Sorry it is making you buy so much stuff. But at least I hope it is stuff you don;t replace and keep in the bag for much longer then you typically keep equipment…that is the hope.

I think that the white crown will be a big strike out for TM this time. I do not see it catching on. Performance will not be able to overcome this.

Golf Spy,

I think the driver will be great for those who will be fit into it the right way.

As far as how TM got lawyers involved in the pictures. You stated that whoever had one of these R11’s was not supposed to release pics or info, why as a business leader in what you do, wouldn’t you think about the integrity of upholding other industry leaders suggestions. So although you end up with the pics, maybe you could give the TM company a courtesy call and say do you mind if I release these, and if they say “no” … have enough integrity to listen to their request and then not do it. Then companies like TM will actually back up your site and might then take this site and promote it and give you the first pics of their new stuff.

I am all for what’s the next big thing, but if I have to break a friendship or relationship to get it, I would always chose the friendship or relationship over that next big thing any day.

Just my thoughts on it all.

Funny you should say that Matt…because we did give Taylormade a courtesy call two months before we actually posted the pics and not once did they say “DON’T POST YOUR PICTURES”. I don’t think you understand how this all works on the inside…but maybe you do…they have what they call embargo dates for images like this that they will not allow retailers to release until the date they show them. We are not a retailer and they don’t support our site in anyway.

Because when they do then they try to control not just pictures but also the content you write about their product and if you don’t they pull their advertising from you. This is why most the other golf forums and golf blogs don’t show pictures as early as we do…because they have a relationship with the OEM’s. I have been in this industry for a long time and it is not in the best interest of the consumer to have them trying to control your content. And we actually do this to help bring the golf industry into the web 2.0 media environment like other industries…for example the tech industries, automobile, even the camera industry has sites like this nikonrumors.com and they don’t are praised for what they do. And to be honest most golf companies appreciate what we are doing. It is just a couple that still give push back on launching pictures early.

And don’t ever think that the Taylormade’s in this industry are in this to make friends or build honest true relationships. The majority of them are here to sell product. If one of their big sites that they had a relationship shut down tomorrow they wouldn’t be calling you to ask how their good friend was doing.

And about just being there to sell their product, MOST companies are that way… even some websites. It’s just the nature of our screwed up world. It sucks that we are now a dog eat dog world and we can’t have more people who are in it for the people, not for themselves!

I love the white look on top. If it helps line up shots better I am all for it. I have used the ghost putter in some tournaments and it really helps see the edges of the putter for better alignment.

If you look at the sole, towards the toe, it has the same distinct lines as the Burner Superfast. It makes me wonder if they are either adding a ‘speed’ element to the R11, or combining the two driver lines

I don’t know why they keep things under such tight wraps when they know there will be a leak. Its a good thing this is out there, I was looking into getting a different driver soon and when I saw this I will hold out to try it! I think it looks awesome personally, and if I hadn’t have seen it here I would probably have picked up one of thier competitors driver instead of waiting for this. Can’t save up for what you don’t know is coming!

Too many adjustable options in my opinion, nobody is going to play with THAT many settings. Looks great though, Cobra released thiers first but this one looks better and hopefully it won’t be as insanely priced

Not quite sure I know what the difference is between this and the R9 other than a new color. I have a much better idea Marketing guys…instead of uping the number every year, actually do something different and let it come in multiple colors (like cars).

Otherwise, I could care less about the driver. Someone else mentioned it – if it isn’t going to provide for more significant yardage, then I’ll stick with what I have. Then wait a year and get it on sale for $149.

When does the lazer sight model come out, R15 ??? Kinda bored of these adjustable drivers. Completely pointless, hardly anyone adjusts them. Just get fitted and stick with your fit. Buy a new driver every 2-3 years and dont buy into all this marketing garbage. As for the white YUCK. Prefer the black/carbon look.

Only problem with getting a driver every 2-3 years, the faces will die after about 50 rounds with it. That is if you are only playing and no practice. It doesn’t take long for any metal to weaken and become less powerful. So in the case of drivers, I suggest a new driver every year or year and a half. BUT GET FIT FOR THE NEW ONES!

We have tested that exact thing before and that is not true. Driver faces don;t die after 50 rounds. Where are you getting your information from on this?

I work on Flight Scope all the time and can show the results from older drivers (fairly new (25 rounds) and past 50 rounds) ball speed coming off at a MUCH slower RPM than the NEW version of that very same club. My job is custom club fitting through that kind of technology, and it is easy to see through the testing that it does die and a lot sooner than we think. Wedges is the thing that dies the quickest. That is why TM came out with their wedge this year for interchangeable faces..

We have done the same testing and you hit a driver 8-14 times a round and after 50 rounds we saw little to no difference after 400-700 hits. But yes we did find that wedges lose spin but generally much more after being hit from sand.

AST, Adjustable ‘Soul’ Technology that’s funny it means you can change the settings so you can hit the ball into the heavens or a worm burner that goes straight to hell. I like this driver but TM will be out with a new model 2 months after this will be released which is fine by me and a lot of players but it does hurt the buzz factor with each club they release. Eventually no-one will care.

The adjustments are there to do different things. They can improve your current game or grow with you as your game improves with lessons.

What you all fail to realize is that better players have all of their clubs adjusted to fit them including the driver. The R11 gives you options you would never have in most cases or that would cost thousands in others.

Find a stock driver that sets up with a heavy X shaft, set up low launch and low spin, that is one degree open, weighted to help me close the toe on mishits. Hint, there is only one, and it’s a Taylormade and with it i get lower scores.

And lets all be honest. A company with more worldwide wins than all it’s competitors combined can’t be doing much wrong.

TM has more wins because they changed the game on club sponsorships. They will pay any pro to play their equipment. I would hope out of the 500+ pros they pay to play TM equipment, they could get a few wins. Maybe a more telling stat would be what percentage of their staff has a win as compared to other companies. Just because a pro wins with the club, it doesn’t mean it will work for an amatuer. There are some really great club companies out there that don’t have the name recognition. TV has programmed the public to think the only clubs worth a darn are TM, Nike, Ping, Callaway, etc.

And remember, there were companies before the TM’s and Callaway’s that are no longer with us, or were bought by one of these current “big boys”. The TM’s and the like push so hard because they don’t want to end up like Ram, Hogan and Top-Flite (for starters)… which, given the weak economy, could be within the realm of the possible.

My only comment to that is this… The Tour Pro’s could play Walmart clubs and score well week in and week out.. They also choose what is the best for them… So if it is the best for them, shouldn’t we take that and say, maybe they have a little more in site than we do on the industry. Like any professional field, there are better options in what we use than others. So if the pro’s are choosing to play them over other companies, then there is something there more than money… Granted, there are some who are in it for the money they will get paid as in every business, but for the most part, those guys are trying to win tournaments and make a name for themselves BY WINS… So with that comes the BEST equipment to make that happen. And it just happens to be Taylormade for equipment, and Titleist for balls, that is just how it is, so don’t hate on professionals for choosing what is best. Go get fit by a PROFESSIONAL and see how much better it will help your game. If you live near Atlanta, I would love to fit you and see how much more I can help your game with Taylormade stuff.

So, by this argument, Mizuno irons suck big time since only Luke Donald is playing them on tour, and you shouldn’t even try to look for Miura clubs since they are the worst crap ever (or have you ever seen anybody playing them seriously on tour?).

I like the look of the head, not to sure though of the color scheme. That said, TM does make good equipment as we all know. Can’t wait to try it and see what it is like!! I am new to this site, but what I have seen for what you are trying to do I commend you. Keep up the good work, and keep down the middle!!!

TM should take notes from the music industry…EVERYTHING will be leaked on the internet. Nothing is safe. I am having a hard time understanding why TM is trying to keep this under wraps. It is an R7 is a new dress…just like the R9, R9 460, SuperTri, etc. The adjustability just messes with your mental state. I love the idea of interchangable shafts, but 564,123 different launch options is a joke (sarcasm on the number bit).

If too many adjustments confuses you then you should get the club fitted by a professional. Also the R9 is nothing like the R7. The head shape is very differant with a much better MOI and launch angle.

Now I understand what you were trying to tell me last week el Spyo… T/M have created a total love/hate issue here, probably love the products (colour aside) hate the company for being so archaic in their response to the media… Surely any publicity is good publicity, and if companies such as Callaway are in the s**t, why not create an interest in the product? Does no harm and for us, the retailers who have to flog the 10th version of the same design, then why not make our job easier?!?!?

The deal about TM’s lawyers sending letters to the little guys kind of bothers me. They are all ready the big boys on the block, yet they exhibit the need to flex their muscle and protect their backsides. Theses are the behaviors that sway my opinion of a company.

Love at first sight! I am all about having the opposite of what everyone else has. Everyone has metal look, I want black finish, everyone is getting black finish, I want white.

Now speaking as an average golfer… I don’t love all the adjustments.

All I am trying to do is to sing the club the same way, twice. I don’t need all the bells and whistles. I love the looks but I don’t like having my driver have more adjustment options then my car seat. They should make driver models like cars, and make the pricing reflecting the amount of adjustment you can make. $300 for the basic, and add $50 for each adjustment.

Who cares what it looks like. If I can hit better than my current driver and it helps to improve my game then that will work for me.

Reminds me of when the component companies were actually at the leading edge of golf technology. Seems to me that there used to be a driver called “White Lightning” that knocked hell out of the ball. Though the geometry of the old White Lightning was closer to the more bulbous looking pear shaped drivers that were so popular when 450 and 460cc first became all the rage, I’ll never forget that white head. That sucker really did seem to be easier to align at address as well. Who knows? Seems the Big Boy OEM’s are just now catching up with the component companies.

i would really like this club if it didnt have the ghosted crown, white crown, white ball, dont think my eyes would be able to get used to that, could probably only use z-star yellows with that thing

I love it! I am a hardcore Callaway driver guy for about the last 8 years, but this thing is the first good looking TM driver I’ve seen. Would definately give it a try.

I absolutely don’t like it. It is butt fuggly. To each their own but I will never own one or want to. I was trying to read what the lettering on the toe says but can’t pick it up from the pics. Something like xxxx Technology AST? RST?

I have been a TM fan since the beginning. And I have to say that they are going in the wrong direction. I don’t understand how they can come out with all forged irons for 2011. And then they put out a driver that is made to be so forgiving that my 4yr could hit it. And this thing is ugly.. Marketing the masses and newby’s I guess

Looks like another WINNER from TaylorMade Golf. I like the white look. I have a Ghost Daytona(not yet released)Putter that is awesome to look at at address. TM has another #1 seller coming. Can’t wait for my Model B TP to get here. Early releases will be hitting the hands of players and big TM accounts in Jan. The 2011 SHow will be buzzing about TM’s new A & B drivers. When the Burner was re-introduced 4 years ago.. The SHOW had a lot of buzz and pazzzzzzzaaazzzzzz. When Adams shows.. everyone just YAWNS

Looks like the driver head is designed not to accept existing TM driver shafts with the FCT sleeve on them. That could be a really big issue for some players who have a quiver of shafts already…..

no they didnt.. taylormades came out with the ghost first (which i own) and ive never looked down at a putter more confidently. cant speak as to whether or not i would use a white crowned driver until i hit balls with it myself.. but every club in my bag is taylormade so i have faith it works great. as do most people. taylormade is to drivers what titleist is to golf balls

I dont agree I have to say. Serious runners all know that you dont buy Nike’s if you want pure performance. ASIC’s can vouch for that. TM is to Golf what Nike is to running – a good Marketing company. Lots of gimmick’s and tricks. How many people actually change their settings on TM Driver after they buy it? I guess its like buying features on a mobile phone that you actually never use!

I think the adjustability is very dynamic. It also appears that they have adopted a bit of the Adams Fastline shape in that the sole area is smaller than the crown (as opposed to the reverse look of the Superfast).
I don’t care for the white look and hope there is a black offering, but will probably only be black on the “TP” version.
This will create a nice business for Custom Club builders, painting the crowns.
Curious if TM has contacted MyGolfSpy to take down the photos . . .

Well to be the decenting voice, I like it!

Can’t care less what the bottom looks like but I really enjoy the white at address. The ghost putters are at the top of my list for confidence while using and if I can hit this at all, I imagine it will be too.

The big key will be if it’s not $700 like the ZL (canadian dollars)

oh taylormade, what have you done? this thing is hideous, the all white Cobra ZL is leaps and bounds better than this, as far as white goes…this is a massive fail in my book, unless it adds 30 yards to your drive (which im sure they will say it does) LOL

Advertising is in everything we buy. The advertisers get us to buy smartphones, tv and whatever else each and every yeat with this year’s model is better than last years’ and here’s why. They are really targeting the buying masses, not the few that really analyze and read and study.

I do not believe they have lost credibility. They never had any to begin with.

I do a lot of custom club fitting for Taylormade and I can vouch for the distance I see people gain with their clubs over the competitors. (Of course it is not every time, as clubs work for some that don’t work for others.) I use a Flight Scope technology and I watch the people suffer with the faces, shafts setup of some of the leading drivers… So if you have never seen the difference, maybe you just are not being fit correctly? (OR AT ALL) The shaft and the head combination of the driver can either add yards, or subtract yards… and I have plenty of data on my computer that it is proof of that.

The only thing these big companies cannot do is change horrible swings and straighten out the drives completely! Although with the adjustable clubs, it can help a little bit… But not enough to take the money away from teachers who could really help the player. So my suggestion to those who don’t believe it works is this… It works if it is fit to you, but if you are not a great golfer and are expecting a miracle… GO GET LESSONS BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN THE CLUBS DON’T DO WHAT THEY SAY. :-D

So is there an adjustable sole plate for swing weight, hozzle for trajectory, and another weight port for weighting for a draw or fade as well? I like the look, but thats alot of adjustments….

When you’re on top, there is only one way to move … down. TaylorMade’s R11 White will be a big – TaylorMiss … although a nice color for the ladies. If sales don’t take off, you’ll see a color change very quickly. But it does bring back a memory. Years ago, while in college I refinished my persimmon driver and another teammates before the Tucker Invitational – bright Kelly green. We were a hit with most of the girl teams. The coach gave me week to refinish them back to a more – neutral color. My fav color on today’s metals is the deep black cherry / maroon – looks black until in the sun. …….. ____ ….o

sales have already slowed and the driver is not getting very good performance reviews. Looks like the hit of the decade may just be a flop until they come out with the next driver in 6 months.

The R11 made Taylormade a shitload of money and was KILLING it when it was released. It’s not a game changer entirely, but it sold EXTREMELY WELL, making it a huge success for Taylormade.

Picked up my new TM R11 yesterday and took it out on my home track today, after a little work on the range …so many combinations but every one of them giving immediate feedback, i was immediately impressed, iive played off low single figures for quite some time and not a guy who buys the new “toy” for the sake of it. Couple of points : The easy adjust system is excellent better in my view than the new titleist D2/3. The white crown is amazing giving not only a “sense” of a lack of bulk but also the ability to track the head through the downswing (again immediate feedback). You have the ability to set the club up for a particular track if so desired.

In short very happy with the new stick and it will stay in my bag
