Am heading to the course later this afternoon to take these for a real test drive. WIll report back tonite, but yesterday’s range session confirmed a few things:

      1. Irons are sweet — nice, crisp sound and feel. They’re like really good potato chips – once you start hitting them, you don’t want to stop.

      2. Driver has some brawn to it. I struggle with a little over the top, so I have a high fade tendency, but on solid driver swings I could feel the ball just flying off the club face no matter where it struck, and it seemed to give a decent amount of roll – at least from what I could tell on the range.

Do you recall if the black on the back of the irons were inserts or paint fill?

It’s a RZN insert, not paint.

Thanks I was hoping paint as they would have looked pretty sweet without the black and green?

Huge thanks to MGS and Nike for including me in this event. I was fit up for the Pro Combos and gotta say they are a sweet swinging club – write up can be found here: http://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/11958-big-day-in-big-d-at-the-big-oven-with-the-big-swoosh/

The focus of this trip was on the metal woods – so there wasn’t any talk about the iron tech, although my fitter discussed the Modern Muscle Technology in the 8-PW and the RZN in the cavity of the long irons. Said the tech made them more forgiving than previous Pro Combo sets. How they compare to the TMag’s is another debate.

As far as the drivers are concerned – they seem legit. Trackman #’s showed more ball speed and carry distance (+9 yards) with both the Vapor Pro and Vapor flex compared to my gamer – Cally X2Hot. Much lower spin and launch angle would lead to more roll, I would think.

Pro Combos will be in the bag for the rest of the season – looking forward to playing a few last Minnesota rounds to see how they compare to my current gamers, Srixon Z-TX.

Well I play Taylormade irons now and I’ve had them in the bag for a while and honestly I’ve already ordered the Nike pro combo set. Yes Nike does a great job on athstetics but these pro combos feel awesome, even the muscle backs feel amazing. In the bag right now would be Nike for me

Ok, so all preferences and biases aside… are you more excited about the new Vapor irons or the RSi’s?

There’s pretty much no argument in my mind that the Nikes look way better, but there doesn’t seem to be any groundbreaking tech in them (although I’m sure Nike would say otherwise). That said, how “groundbreaking” do you think this new FaceSlot tech really is? I know your preliminary testing showed real gains on off-center hits over the Speedbladez from just this past season.

Nike always does a good job on the aesthetics – and recently have caught up on performance – but if you had to pick one iron RIGHT NOW to bag, which would it be?

      Our Nike rep said yesterday

      Irons 11-1-14
      Woods 2-1-15
      Wedges 4-1-15

Kind of a weird launch but that’s how it’s going to be for the new Nike stuff
