TOP-SECRET – Prototype SeeMore Putter Being Made!

Ever find yourself mindlessly losing yourself staring at the TV over a weekend…then you snap-to only to realize you have just watched 4 hours straight of “How It’s Made!”?  Pretty damn cool to see how some of the products we use are made.  Only problem is they don’t have a show like that dedicated to how just golf products are made.  So we thought we would do our own version of the show for the MGS readers.  A little over a year ago we actually highlighted SeeMore putters in a “How It’s Made” episode and after receiving quite a few emails from the readers asking us to do another episode we figured it was about time to do it again.

This time though we went undercover with SeeMore’s head of R&D, Andre Shmoldas.  I think you will like what he had in store for you in today’s article.  Today you’ll get to see the process from start to finish on how one of their new prototype model putters are made.  This model is literally just hitting the PGA Tour.  So you are the very first golfers besides the pro getting this model to ever see this putter.  It’s called the SeeMore ONEcs Prototype.

Initial Concepts in 3D CAD

Initial concepts are fully created and analyzed in 3D CAD using Solidworks, Pro Engineer, and/or SolidDesigner…every dimension, material spec, radius, blend, angle are accounted for..  Models are created using a combination of 2D workplanes that when extruded and rotated into 3D space create the final 3D solid model.

Finalized ONEcs model CAD model.  Pure center-shafted blade that has some of the unique Seemore weighting characteristics characterized by the more familiar FGP model, but with a more traditional design.  Typically, after a CAD is finalized – we go thru 4 or 5 iterations in plastic or aluminum to verify shape, setup, design, and overall functionality – before cutting in steel.

First Cuts On The Putter

First CNC cuts in 303 stainless steel on the new ONEcs model.  Only cutting 5 in steel, 2 will be heading straight to Sony Open in Hawaii for immediate tour feedback.

After 1st operation, checking dimensions – verifying against CAD model…feed/speeds and programming the CNC is truly an art!

Tools Of The Trade

Some of the many holders and cutters that are required to make a putter…tools can range from $10 – $600 (you don’t want to break them…which happens all the time)

Hand Finishing & Painting

The other art is introduced in the hand finishing and painting of every head….every blend, corner, surface scrutinized.  Each head in this run serialized 1 of 5 and so on and marked “Prototype A” to indicate 1st market entry for this model.
